Child shot in face while at home

BELLPORT (WABC) -- A young boy is in the hospital tonight after being shot inside a Long Island home.
The incident happened in Bellport.
The young victim only 9 or 10 years old was shot in the face and is in the hospital in serious condition.
Police say the child was shot around 1:30 p.m. in his home on Provost Ave.
Before detectives could begin to investigate the scene, they had to clear out a number of pit bulls that were inside and surrounding the house. At least 15 dogs were led out of the location on leashes and in cages.
Once the house was cleared, authorities were able to begin their investigation and try to figure out what happened.
"He was shot from the outside, the bullet went through the wall and struck the child that was in the house," said Det. Sgt. David Mulloy with the Suffolk County Police.
The child was at the kitchen table when he was shot. It was not clear what the child was doing at the time of the shooting.
There were at least three shots fired according to police.
The victim's family raced the child to Brookhaven hospital, where he was then transferred to Stonybrook Hospital.
There are no suspects in this case at this time.

That's the saddest story i read all day. :(
What is more sad is that Cruz lowered Frazier to NY, in pretense of shopping for their son. He then paid his cousin $1000 to kill his ex girlfriend and baby momma Frazier because she dumped him. He was 18 years older than her and he didn't want to pay child support. It was supposed to look like a robbery, after the cousin shot Frazier and jumped in the car Cruz ran after him and yelled "wait you forgot to shoot me" so the cousin shot him too. Witnesses alerted the cops and they both have been arrested.

Wave of shootings hits Newark

Tuesday, April 22, 2008
Police say three men have just been shot; two men were fatally shot earlier today Eyewitness NewsNEWARK (WABC) -- Violence erupted in New Jersey's largest city Monday night and Tuesday morning, leaving two people dead and three more wounded in separate shootings.
Three people were shot late Tuesday morning on one of Newark's busiest streets, sending bystanders fleeing for cover. About 12 hours earlier, two men were fatally shot and police said they may have shot each other. The shootings again placed the specter of gun violence front and center in Newark, less than two months after the city enjoyed a rare six-week stretch with no homicides.
Since that lull ended with a killing on Feb. 26, there have been 13 homicides in the city, according to statistics published on the Newark Police Department's Web site.
Still, Monday night's homicides brought the 2008 total to 16, 10 fewer than by the same date in 2007.
I think it's a positive sign that we're raising people's expectations," Police Director Garry J. McCarthy said Tuesday. "Last year, this was the average."
The shootings late Tuesday morning occurred on Bloomfield Avenue, one of the city's main east-west arteries.
According to police, a woman and man were struck in the face and a second man was struck in the leg. The second man was treated and released from University Hospital in Newark.
McCarthy said the two people shot in the face did not suffer life-threatening injuries and were in stable condition.
McCarthy said two of the victims were shot while walking on a sidewalk, while a third was coming out of a store nearby. He said at least six shots were fired, and several shell casings were discovered in the street and on the sidewalk.
No motive or relationship between the victims was established, and McCarthy would not say how many suspects police were looking for or whether the shootings were believed to be random. Police were looking for a dark-colored Honda Accord that sped from the scene, but would not say whether the car was involved in the shootings.
Jason Colon of Kearny said he was driving west on Bloomfield Avenue at about 11 a.m. when he heard gun shots, followed by a chaotic scene as people ran across the busy street through traffic.
"Everybody was screaming, 'They've got a gun, they've got a gun,"' Colon said. "Then I saw two guys running away."
The shootings occurred in front of a row of stores that includes a hair salon and coin-operated laundry and a Valley United Bank. Police said they were reviewing the bank's outdoor surveillance camera, which points in the direction of the site of the shootings.
Tuesday morning's shooting followed a string of shootings in the area in the past several days.
Police believe two 18-year-old men shot and killed each other Monday night in Newark. Their bodies were found less than a half mile from each other.
In Irvington, which borders Newark, three shootings that took place within minutes of each other early Sunday left a Rutgers University student dead and two people injured, including a police sergeant. Shaquan Johnson, 27, of Newark was arrested several hours later and was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
Two nights earlier, five people were shot and three others stabbed in four separate incidents in Irvington.

Too many of the posters on here ain't old enough to remember NYC in the 80's. People forget that this was a city of 2000 murders a year back in the day.
