What is the basis of your prediction for Dillon Gabriel beating our Shedeur? Just curious…
I know it’s not because Dillon Gabriel ran a pro-style offense successively or proved he could play under center. I know it’s not because of his elite athleticism. At 5’11 with a moderate arm, didn’t really wow college with his athleticism.
But I’m sure there’s a well thought out reason to think that.
I've repeatedly said that I don't believe Shedeur to be a good NFL prospect. Alot of his momentum is due to his Father. His father is also a reason analysts aren't really critiquing him publicly. Shedeur had good stats, but there were QBs who had better But to answer your question directly and compare Shedeur Sanders to Dillon Gabriel as NFL prospects:
1.) Gabriel has faster processing and decision making.
Gabriel gets the ball out quickly and makes fast reads in rhythm based offenses (UCF,Oklahoma, and Oregon).
Shedeur often holds the ball too long resulting in excessive sacks and missed opportunities. This tendency is punished in the NFL.
2.) Gabriel has more experience in multiple systems.
Gabriel played under multiple offensive coordinators across 3 major programs giving him a broader exposure to different schemes and NFL style reads. Shedeur has only played for his Father who tailored every offense he played in to HIS strengths.
3.) Gabriel has a quicker release and footwork.
Gabriel has a compact throwing motion and quick release. This works great with his smaller frame similar to how Drew Brees and Tuas succeeded. Shedeur has a slower release and his footwork is inconsistent under pressure. He has a habit of bailing backwards when the pocket collapses which is a major red flag. He is not athletic and mobile enough to make up for this in the NFL.
4.) Gabriel is tougher and more durable.
Gabriel played through injuries including a brocken clavicle and continued to play at a high level. Shedeur was frequently injured in 2023 and struggled with durability concerns.
5.) Gabriel has experience competing for his spot.
Gabriel competed for and won the starting QB spot at UCF, Oklahoma, and Oregon. These are top tier D1 programs. Think about this, the FIRST time Shedeur will ever legit compete for his spot will be in the NFL. His Father was the coach throughout High School and college. In college, he played at Jackson State against lower level competition and his dad brought higher level talent and coaches to tailor the offense to his strengths. Then at Colorado, his dad was again the coach and brought talent and coaches to tailor the offenses to his strengths both years. This will be the first time that he has to legit learn and offense that is not built around him and he has to legitimately compete. It will be an uphill battle for him because of the reasons above.
