Scottie Pippen........HOF?

Hell yeah. Understand that the only reason his personal stats are not through the roof is because he was playing behind the G.O.A.T.

no doubt. thats why it was impossible to beat them. because if you some how slowed down Jordan scottie was there to drop 30 on your ass. i seen games where Jordan like 44 Pippen 27 thats what most teams scored off of 2 players.

I remember when they both dropped 40 on Indiana

:smh::smh::smh: He was a role player

He was more than just a mere "role" player. Derek Fisher, Micheal Cooper, Rick Fox, Bruce Bowen, Jeff Hornacek, Dan Marjle etc. is my definition of a role player. Pip as the mere role player would disrupt a teams entire offensive scheme and shut down the oppossing team's ball handler and top scorer depending on need.

Truth be told Scottie is among top 5 small foward of all time. I would take Pip as my starting SF on my team anyday over Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and James Worthy and they were all outstanding HOF talents.

:smh::smh::smh: He was a role player

I realize your here defending your dad but this is a bullshit statement.

Besides accolades stated here, some of you cats don't know he played the 1-4 against elite opponents on defense and he played it well! Scottie was sent to shut down more opponents than Mike and in more positions than Mike.

There's no stat for intangibles like causing deflections, thrown away passes, opponent losing control of ball and such that lead to turnovers against opponents. He's done it all and remember Jordan didn't win shit till scottie got there, bumped first round each time.

Scottie almost took bulls to conference finals while leading them in every stat, only bullshit ref calls prevented him from achieving conference finals, but he did what Jordan couldn't, and that was get past first round of play offs.

But in all honesty, I don't think Jordan would hve been as successuful without having a Scottie Pippen on his team either. He was an excellent all around player and was "DEPENDABLE" game after game!

n he let jordan shine n didnt let ego get n the way n fuck up the run before it started....

ie.... kobe n shaq.....they lucky they got 3 rings out of it...all most fell apart after the second...

how many more rings would they have had if they could`ve co existed...

as much as i hate the bulls as a knicks fan....without pippen...

we would`ve had atleast 2 of those championships....

Calling Pippen a role player, is like calling Dr J, Kareem and Kevin McHale role players :smh:

The bulls were 55-27 with Scottie Pippen leading them and Jordan not playing in 1993-1994.

GC,

you have to post the other book end. the next season without michael jordan was mediocre and unremarkable until michael jordan came back. the bulls were only 34-29 (.539) with scottie pippen as a starter. when michael jordan returned after 2 years away from professional basketball, the bulls went 13-4 (.764)

to be fair, the other book end you referred to was not accurate either. but that works in favor of scottie pippen. the bulls with scottie pippen were actually 51-21 (.708) in the 1st season without michael jordan.

and for all the people clamoring about scottie pippen leading the bulls in statistical categories, that's not THAT big a deal in context. scottie pippen played the most minutes per game. scottie pippen attempted the most FGAs per game. scottie pippen attempted the most FTAs per game. so wouldn't you EXPECT his scoring averages to be commensurately higher also? no brainer. it's the same reason why it's natural to expect that scottie pippen also lead the team in NEGATIVE statistics too: turnovers and personal fouls.

while scottie pippen's productivity in the triangle O is undeniably impressive that season, it would've been more impressive if he had lead the team in one of the shooting percentage categories (FG%, 3FG% or even FT%). he wasn't even in the top 3 of any of those categories.

i hate scottie pippen with a passion, im an old school BAD BOYS piston fan..fuck scottie, fuck jordan, fuck jerry krauss

fuck the Bulls as a staff, a record label and a mother fucking crew....

but if Pippen isnt a first round HOF, they need to just burn the place down....he's clearly a HOF'er......if you dont think so... you're not only not a real basketball fan, you probably down know much about sports in general.... ..... you were born in the 90's and never saw him play,

I can't stand Scottie Pippen because he was a big bitch. I guess it takes a bitch ass nigga to have all that talent and accept being Robin to Jordan's Batman. But he is the greatest defender of all-time and is a no doubt hall of famer. He wouldn't go in the game in the playoffs when the play was drawn up for Toni Kukoc and he talked shit about Charles Barkley when the experiment with the two of them and Hakeem failed in Houston. But Scottie could play. Plus, even though he was listed as a forward he spent most of his time playing the point.

Here is my all-time defensive team.

Center - Wilt Chamberlain - You have to listen to Sonny Hill talk about how Wilt controlled the lane and blocked shots.

Power Forward - Dennis Rodman - I'm almost sorry that he ever won a rebounding title because he stopped being the defender that could shut down all five positions.

Small Forward - Scottie Pippen - The greatest defender ever could defend four spots on the floor and defended his man in the half court set and on the break and was a great help defender as well.

Big Guard - Joe Dumars - The toughest position for me but Dumars gets the nod over guys like Alvin Robertson. Jordan said he was the toughest.

Point Guard - Mo Cheeks - Isiah said that Mo Cheeks would pick him up as soon as he stepped off the plane. I still teach the Mo Cheeks steal to my young players.

Others receiving consideration are: Bill Russell, Marvin Webster, Caldwell Jones, Bobby Jones, Robertson, Anthony Mason, Rasheed Wallace, Bruce Bowen, Kevin Garnett, Byron Scott, Michael Cooper and my most underrated defender ever who was the best in the league at the turn of the century, Aaron McKie.

That was a great assessment, but you made two errors. First, I'll start with what you got right. Rodman was the most unique defender in history. This was the only player that could play phone booth defense on a young, explosive Jordan, and control Shaq in the paint, while Shaq was in his prime, and everyone else in between. Olajuwon could out play Shaq, but I can't say that he controlled him defensively. Plus Rodman was the greatest rebounder the league has ever seen. Sure Bill R and Wilt C put up bigger rebounding numbers, but the game had a lot more shot attempts back then. A study factored in rebounds per shot taken, and showed that Rodman, at only 6'8", grabbed more boards per shot taken. If he played back then, his numbers would project to some crazy numbers. Plus he played against bigger, stronger and more athletic competition.

Pippen was always a great defender to me as I've seen him shut down quite a few great scorers. A small hand full of others can make that claim too, so that's not what separates him from the other defensive greats. Pippen is the only player I've seen in NBA history, that shut down an entire scheme. What he did to Utah in that one Finals, where he disrupted Stockton bringing the ball upcourt, then rotated back to the Center. Defensive brillance.

What you got wrong was not even considering Jordan as an all time defender. He isn't even mentioned in the honorable mentions. Led the league in steals multiple times and in the top 3 steals all time, the 2nd greatest rebounding guard in history, DPOY award, more defensive 1st team nominations than anyone in history. WTF? Not even a mention? Other than that, its on point (except for Chamberlain over Rusell defensively).

Good points by both.

Btw, Here's an Assist....

People should not ever put the words... "All-Time" + "NBA" + "Defense" in the same sentence... without mentioning THIS GUY in the convo....

please fix this. you are disrespecting one of the most under-rated PGs in the past 3 decades with this.

jerry west wanted to draft the player you are dissing OVER earvin johnson, but jerry buss wouldn't allow it.

:dunno:

The ONLY player I could think of that you could be possibly be referring to is....

Sidney Moncrief (Milwaukee Bucks)

Who won the very first 2 Defensive Player of the year Awards (in 1982-83, 1983-84)
However, he was listed as a 'combo' guard (SG/PG)...

1979 NBA Draft

So I'm not sure if they awarded him DPOY for being strictly a 'pure' point guard. :dunno:

But I DO agree - his name should DEFINITELY ALSO be mentioned in any 'NBA All-Time Defense' conversations.

If you watch GM 2 of the 1991 NBA Finals, then you already know. Chess move of the century was Phil putting Scottie on Magic. It was a wrap from then on.

Having had the opportunity to witness Pippen play in person many times over his career he's a lock for the HOF. The thing I don't quite get is how they clearly overlook the most obvious thing about Pippen. If you look at what he's accomplished it's clear he's one of the best small forwards to ever play. The question I have is this....what kind of legend would Pippen have if he was EVER given the "star" treatment? Think about that for second. You could touch Pippen. You could HIT Pippen. You could knock him down. The NBA never penalized players for hitting Pippen. The refs never coddled him or gave him preferential treatment. Whatever points, rebounds, assists he had he got them pretty much on his own. Could you touch Jordan? Could you touch Bird? Can you touch Kobe? Can you touch Lebron? That's what places Pippen in his own league.

I think it's a no-brainer when you look at Pippen's entire body of work.

Before I even watched this video I knew he was a hall of famer but that video pretty much says it all, damn Pippen was a straight baller. Watch that video!:eek::eek::eek:
