Rosetta Stone and Language Packs

I would first like to thank Mr. Jody for the software. This is truely a blessing, my 4 yr old was in here when I gave the swahili a test run and he is figuring it out already. and finally thanks to Black Cobra for giving great tech support to get this software up and running had it not been for your support I would have given up along time ago. But now that i slowly followed your instruction my family will be learning at least three languages. one question . . once i have it on cd i can clear my harddrive right? I luv this board!!

Finally got the files to work
This post is a fucking blessing, thanks for everything :)
For those that can't get it to work do this:

1) Make sure you have Winzp 10.0, NOT an older version.
That's the main thing that was going wrong for me at first.
It will NOT work with an older version of winzip.

2) Burn onto a disc using Nero. More specifically, the ROM burning feature which is used for ISO files. Don't just try to burn using the wizard or whatever. It WON'T work.

It should work after that.

Yo I wanted to say thanks for all of this!!
Man I been saying that I need to learn Spanish for the last few years.

I did some research on the different language software out there and I found this ratings site:

http://learn-spanish-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

They like The Rosetta Stone, but ranked Tell Me More Spanish as the best of the 10 they reviewed. Probably because it covered all aspects of learning a new language. So I decided to locate and download that one too. The files are RAR'd and there is no password. HOWEVER, the ISO file you end up with is large (almost 900MB) and will have to be burned to (and runs from) a DVD. No serials or cracks are needed for the install.

IMPORTANT=====>> I urge you to go to the website and read some of the instructions for this program as it is not easy to follow at first. Some of the complaints seem to be from people who did not fully read the instructions on the company website.

I agree that Tell Me More is probably the best and most complete tool out there. While I only used it for a few minutes, ike some of the folks on Amazon, I did not find it as easy as The Rosetta Stone. But it is much more complete and I was amazed at how easily it understood me when I spoke in the microphone. I would use Rosetta Stone first (or at least along with it) in order to get a very complete understanding of Spanish. Sorry, I only found the Spanish DVD. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS LATIN AMERICAN OR SPAIN SPANISH. I think it may have mostly Spain with some Latin American in some lessons. But, here are the links:

Download link (The pdf on the DVD says it is version 8)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS i finally got it to work...thanks for all the support Black Cobra...and most importantly...thanks a lot Mr Jody!I really can use this. Thanks again!Peace.

Great, you'll find that it was well worth the effort.

Once again, a big ups to mrjody for dropping this, because I missed the first post. When it comes to computer-based learning, I am all for helping as many of our people as possble. As the world becomes even more connected, it only makes sense to learn other languages. This post is doing it's part in helping our people prepare for the future economy (without spending a dime). ;)

That's the beauty of the internet, sharing for free. ;)

Yes, you can delete all those Zip and ISO files now that you have them on CD. I would also make back-up copies of all those CD's (the main application and each language CD), because this stuff is pretty expensive.

I was glad to see the Swahili as I doubt you can find many classes teaching it. I think there is something here for everybody.

tremendous post.
This stuff is always good, not just for hollering at other races but the job market too.

Ok, I have had time to research Tell Me More Spanish. For me, this shit is so hard that I feel I must redeem myself. :( So here is a very good link that will go well with your learning. I never knew the BBC had all this stuff: http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/

As for Tell Me More Spanish, most people seem to hate it because, contrary to the claim, it is NOT for beginners. In addition, it is not easy to navigate. But, I also found that people who understand Spanish grammer after taking other classes loved it. This is why I suggest going through Rosetta Stone first.

Another thing about Tell Me More, I did not find the internet links very useful (though they did mention the BBC site) because the updates and manuals were too old for version 8. Not sure why their support sucks.

But I did find the updated manual here:
http://www.auralog.com/fr/FAQS_htm/manuals/tell_me_more_8/TellmeMore8_guidepedago_AME.pdf

Once again, check this link out http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/ it will really help build on what you are learning with The Rosseta Stone program and the info is free. It covers a number of languages here.

NOTE: Some videos on the BBC site used the Realplayer plugin on Internet Explorer (Mozilla Firefox did not work for me, but I did not have time to fix it). You may have to play with your setup.

peace out ;)

Muchos Gracias to everyone that contributed to this post!!! If you follow the directions you won't have any problems, whatsoever. I successfully downloaded, unziped, and burned all the images to CD --except for Korean because the files were deleted from Rapidshare. I really can't thank you enough for this post!!!

Which One Do The Ricans And Mexicans Speak?????
Spanish (Latin America)
Spanish (Spain)

From what I have read, they speak Latin Spanish. However, it should be noted that all the Spanish-speaking countries have their own flavor. The difference between Latin American and Spain Spanish is said to be almost like U.S. English and UK English. So either version of Spanish should get you in the door.

A friend of mine is starting to do business with the Koreans.

So I told him about this free languagepack course.

However all links still work except for the Korean languagepack links.
If someone could help out with new links for this language I would really appreciate it. Please pm me if you can, thanks.

Yeah, I noticed it was deleted too. So I did a search on Google and found this:

Korean Level 1
http://rapidshare.de/files/33390477/DR.RS.Kor.1.part1.rar
http://rapidshare.de/files/33391995/DR.RS.Kor.1.part2.rar

also found Vietnamese Level 1
http://rapidshare.de/files/32981853/DR.RS.Viet.1.part1.rar
http://rapidshare.de/files/32984831/DR.RS.Viet.1.part2.rar

unRar with this password: thedragonsrealm.info

I have downloaded both, but have not tried to run the Korean yet. I can confirm that the Vietnamese language files work.

It's like someone read my mind. I was looking into taking a chinese course this spring and now i can save the time and money by doing it at home. I should definitely learn more using this and at a faster pace than i would sitting in some class. This has to be the best post in the 10 year history of BGOL!

thanks on all the help because i was having problems at first program runs great. Thanks again for the post

If you got a folder with an iso in it you didnt burn it right. What did you use to burn the .iso? You cant just burn it like music cd doggg. Ask for some help instead of saying the shit dont work cause it do. "bout 50 niggas ahead of you can vouch...
he's right

While I am here, I might as well mention this too. I know some of you are already doing this, but for you others, you can also simply use the ISO files with special software. This is good if:

1. You do not have a CD burner.
2. You don't want to use up your blank CD's.
3. You don't want to always carry the CD (with your laptop).
4. You want to be able to switch to different languages on the fly.

There are plenty of programs that will create a "virtual" CD drive by using the space on your hard drive. The program will allow you to load an ISO file onto this "fake" CD drive and then mount it so Windows will see it as another CD drive. The ISO file will be read as if it was an actual language CD. The Rosetta Stone will also detect this drive and load the language like the CD was being used.

A few programs that can do this (there are many others):
Alcohol
Nero (I know version 7 can)
Ultra ISO ver 8

What? you deleted all of your ISO files, well these programs will also allow you to create an ISO file from the original CD so you can load it to the "virtual" CD drive. Then you can put away the CD. I have ONLY used Ultra ISO 8 for this, so I am not exactly sure how the others work.

Senario:
Three people in your house are each learning a different language. You hate having to look for your language CD. So you use one of the above programs to create a virtual (or fake) CD drive. You then copy the ISO file for each language to a folder. Then you use your application to browse to the ISO file you want and "mount" the ISO file to the virtual CD drive. Now when you start Rosetta Stone, it thinks the CD is language loaded.

Note: Windows will see the virtual drive as another CD drive and allow you to view the files just as if you were using the actual CD. And yes, it works with any CD that has been made into an ISO file (music, games, DVDs etc).

So I guess if you do not have a DVD burner and wanted to use that Tell Me More Spanish DVD (I posted here earlier), you could just mount the image to a virtual and run it from there. The great thing about virtuals is that the newer versions will accept even DVD size ISO's so you can simulate having a DVD reader.

IMPORTANT
If the disc is copy-protected, then you may not be able to create a working ISO (like some audio and video CD's/DVD's) unless you use another program (like AnyDVD [even the trial version is enough]) to disable the copy-protection.

this shit isn't fuckin workin for me, please help

What's not working?

1. Are you able to unzip and get the ISO files?

2. Can you install the main program?

3. Are you able to unzip and use the language packs?

4. Which files are giving you trouble?

5. Did you read all of the posts here? It pretty much details every step needed.

6. Or are you refering to the virtual CD software I just mentioned?

Many props on this one ya'll. I'm headed to Korea next year so the Korean packs are definitely going to come in handy.

Definite 5 star post.

Can anyone please post the 250 mb Iso file you get after extracting the language files for german/spanish/mandarin. I have tried to extract with all methods but i have failed

Thanks, I need this. Juanita the mexican/indian housekeeper is practically begging for the dick. The last time I stepped to her, she thought it was a marriage proposal.
