Last year I bought a house in central new jersey from my aunt. The house was listed on foxtons for $569,000 and was way over our budget. We were looking to spend no more than $500,000, so one day my aunt called me and was like do you want to buy my house and after talking it over with wifey we were like lets give it shot now remember i could not have spent 569,000 grand the timing was good because i was about to have a baby and i was living in 1 bedroom apt in brooklyn so we told her we might be interested if the house was a little cheaper so they were like okay 525,000 then when all the brokers got involved they sent out a home appraiser and his estimate was the house was only worth 475,000. My aunt only lived in that house for 3 years and bought it for 330,000 and borrowed 70,000 to do renovations to the home so her total was 410,000 the house is bi-level split with a nice size yard and has in in-ground pool but it's outdated meaning as far as all the landscaping anyhow she did some pretty cool updating nice kit. with an island but the rooms are really not big I have master bedroom with no bathroom and 2 little rooms across my room and one bathroom upstairs and family room downstairs with half of bathroom and a indoor 2 car garage and a deck upstairs the house is really not that big and the rooms well i put a king size bed and it pretty much filled up the room the other rooms is only good for twin beds I mean the house really isn't to big but the yard is big but lets face it i can't live in my yard anyway..after the appraiser give her the numbers she was like i can't sell it for that i'm being jipped off the only reason why their doing that because and this is her bullshit story there was a doctor who lived across the street and he came home one day and saw his wife with another man in the pool you know what so the doctor decided to sell his house way under market value and that ruined it for the whole block..so she was like look i'm going to lower the price to 500,000 and that's final so how can i borrow money from the bank when they'll only lend me 475,000..her plan was like i'll guess you'll owe me 25,000 under the table and it was my first time and i was excited and i agreed to it..so we get the loan and we closed on it and she also coned us into not hiring a lawyer because we were family and it'll just be a waste of money and in the state of new jersey you really don't need one..now the agreement for 25,000 was that i had a year to pay that to her and within the first 2 months she was hounding me for bread and to top it off she left the house a mess i had to clean out the whole garage she just left the house fucked up food in the cabinets food that rotted in the fridge the attic is all fucked up she currently has a camper trailer parked in my driveway and is using my address for car insurance meanwhile with the sale of her house she bought a huge house in florida..but what brings everything to light is that i learded a lot more since then and what she did was illegal under the table money I paid her full market appraisal value for her house without even negotating from 475,000 at this point there is no written contact stating that i owe her this money in which by the way it seems fishy she lowered it 16,000 now i really don't want to give her shit but my wifey and friends tell me you made a deal and you should keep your word please can anybody give me input on this situation and don't ever do business with family members they'll fuck u harder than a stranger
