Vaird Convict Given Jail In Robbery Warren Mcglone Got 22 To 45 Years For A Huntingdon Valley Case.

That is how Montgomery County prosecutors described Warren ``Steady B'' McGlone, one of three Philadelphia men convicted in the murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Lauretha Vaird.

McGlone, 27, already serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, was sentenced yesterday to an additional 22 to 45 years in prison for robbery and related charges stemming from a 1995 holdup at Bethayres Market in Huntingdon Valley.

Montgomery County Court Judge Samuel W. Salus 2d ordered that the sentences run consecutively with McGlone's life sentence in Philadelphia.

The armed robbery of the Welsh Road market on July 17, 1995, went unsolved until the Vaird slaying. Then two Bethayres managers identified McGlone, whose photo was shown in news reports, as one of three men who stormed their store and took $2,600 from the safe.A second man who participated in the bank robbery that led to Vaird's killing, Ernest Mark Canty, also was identified as one of the men who robbed the market. The third man has not been found.

McGlone, a rap artist in the group C.E.B., or Countin' Endless Bank, drove the getaway car on Jan. 2, 1996, when his two partners, Christopher Roney and Canty, ambushed Vaird while robbing a PNC bank in Philadelphia. Roney, the triggerman, was convicted of first-degree murder. Canty was convicted of second-degree murder and is serving a life sentence.

Canty will be tried on the robbery charges in Montgomery County in about two months.

Christopher "Cool C" Roney of Pennsylvania Granted Stay Ahead of January 8, 2015, Execution

Christopher “Cool C” Douglas Roney's execution was scheduled for 7 pm EST on Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the State Correctional Institute Rockview, in Rockview, Pennsylvania. His execution was stayed by the United States District Court for the Eastern District. Forty-five-year-old Christopher is convicted of the murder of 43-year-old police officer Lauretha Vaird on January 2, 1996, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Christopher has spent the last 17 years on Pennsylvania’s death row.

Christopher is a former rapper who previously went by the name Cool C. His music career reached a peak in the late 1980s, with the release of two solo albums and the single Glamorous Life. In 1991, Cool C joined the hardcore rap group C.E.B. (Countin’ Endless Bank), which was composed of two other Philadelphia rappers. Their album received disappointing reviews and sales.

In the mid-1990s, Christopher “Cool C” Roney was planning a comeback. On January 2, 1996, Roney, along with C.E.B. bandmate Warren McGlone and a third rapper, Mark Canty, attempted to rob a PNC bank in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Around 8:30 am, the trio entered the bank by forcing the assistant manager and bank manager to let them into the bank at gunpoint. A nearby business alerted police to the crime.

Officer Lauretha Vaird, a nine-year veteran and single mother of two, was the first officer to arrive at the scene. As she entered the bank, Roney shot her in the abdomen. The injury was fatal. The three men fled the bank. Canty and McGlone left their weapons behind. Upon exiting the bank, Roney exchanged gunfire with additional police officers, before making his escape in a getaway vehicle driven by McGlone.

Canty and McGlone each confessed to participating in the robbery and identified Roney as the shooter. They each received a life sentence. Roney was sentenced to death.

This is Christopher Roney’s second execution warrant. Christopher's execution has been stayed by the US District Court for the Eastern District.
