True, but at some point Jones would step it up and just get the fucker out of there. He was in total control because the fight seemed to go on just as long as he wanted it to. That in itself was impressive. I remember a fight like the one you mention, it was against a Canadian black guy that was a WBO champ. I can't remember his name. But the fight went about 10 rounds. The guy's name was Otis something. Anyway, Jones just took it easy on the guy and when the people finally started booing, Jones just started knocking the guy down and forced the stoppage.
For the most part, Jones at least had a sense of pride about knowing who was supposed to last the distance against him and who wasn't. Hopkins was the same way. Hopkins knew that no guys like Trinidad and De La Hoya were supposed to go to his weight class and even be able to last the distance. Jones said the same thing when he fought Trinidad at 169. Even a shot Jones said that if he couldn't KO a rising in weight smaller Trinidad, he would have to really consider retiring even if he won. Of course he didn't retire but that shows you that Jones at least knew what was up.
That is why I am not impressed by the least that PBF beat Marquez by decision just like I would not have been impressed had he decisioned a smaller Hatton. When fighting a bum or a smaller guy, you are supposed to react and try to knock that guy out. He is not supposed to live in the ring with you. That's a championship pride and mentality. Even Ali was turned into a killer and was not trying to see a decision against the rising in weight Bob Foster. That's just pride.
Maybe I'm late, but I am starting to question PBF's pride. If he fights Campbell or some other 140 pounder, there really won't be any more questions to ask.
