This branding happens in disproportionate amounts in the Black community. Like I said, in those other cultures, it's no problem being a gear head, geek, movie buff, in a band, or whatever non mainstream activity you're interested in.
Totally! Being that brothas are not monolithic, it's virtually impossible to determine what to "pretend" to be. It's much easier to be who you are and accept if they like it not. Life is too short to be who others want you to be.

Do you? Anyway I like Jazz and other music but I don't roll over my culture. There are lots of women out there who are professional, fine and smart. Go to conventions, get on match.com and the real dating sites and get off Blackpeoplemeet. Some of the women will commute to you to get that hotdog. You're missing the entire point of Lefty's argument. No one is taking away from a professional Black woman. Props to her if she's done well in life. But "cookie cutter" Black women are not what a lot of us are interested in.

^^^^ This. But I ain't complaining, that's how I met my girl. She wasn't into most BS a lot females are into today. I think there some brothers who are intimidated by black women who (sad to say) speak 'well', have a good vocabulary and actually carry themselves with some dignity. I've seen it with my own eyes. My girl told me hardly any brothers approached her before I met her because they assumed she wasn't into black guys.
They based this on her clothing, music taste and the fact she didn't apparently carry herself like a 'stereotypical' black girl. But hey, I ain't complaining.

She wants someone with experience in long term committed relationships .... well if they are experience in "committed" relationships wouldn't that mean they are still in a relationship since committed? He went to the concert. He was embarrassed because I was jamming to her. And he was embarrassed that he took his friends to her concert, when they wanted to experience an "Atlanta" night. He thought it was going to be a soul concert. They were looking at him crazy, like, "what did you bring us to".

I'm not going to say what you said here was just untrue it's not. But Are YOU open minded to different types of black women as well? To say this my husband met me in a place i was reading comic books on my break. He approached me and spoke to me we argued about the comics. In his discovery process he learned i loved all types of music, name that tune is a specialty of mine. I have more than a passing familiarity with many different artforms, i painted, i danced ballroom, swing, tap, waltz, tango, rumba, mambo, and tap. I've loved comic books since i was a kid. Anime, manga. Korean art house. I spoke fluent japanese, AND i can play spades, i do hair, nails, bid whist, i can shoot pool, 9 ball, I love to cook, and blah blah.
All that to say...i'm eclectic. My interests are varied. And he met me in 1 of the least likely places.
But the point is he was OPEN to it. He didn't judge me based on where i was. He didn't judge me based on occupation.
One of the ODDEST things to me is how often WE as a people judge each other and say how different we are? But won't accept OTHERS differences. And won't accept others varied ideas and interests.
For all you know Mr. Lefty the girl of your dreams could've drifted right under your nose at Barnes N Noble. The Library, but you judged her because she was reading a Cosmo. Or you judged her because she was wearing blond hair.

Not neccasarily. Sometimes relationships just run their course. And you can be in 1 for 7 years and then break up. It didn't have to be a BAD break. It could've been mutual. So he's experienced with long term relationships. And he MAY have been committed to his ex, but things just fell apart.
Do you travel? LA women seem to be the most superficial to me. In general. When i was there and the ones i've met from there....just not cool.
