Palm Pre Owners Step This Way

See my prob is wen i download it its doesnt give me an option on were it saves too

the easiest thing to do is plug the phone into your computer, set it to act as a USB device then use a file manager to move the song clips from the download directory to the ringtone directory. that should be all you need.

There is a great post in this thread about using audacity to create your own ringtones from your MP3s.

Got Preware installed but no luck with the keyboard patch from there.

There are a few people on the precentral board having the same problem as I am:angry:

I have grabbed a bunch of apps from the Preware spot though:dance:

Anybody get java 1.6 to work on a 32 bit mac?
bruh go into the utillities --java preferences and just change the default java environment to 1.6 - if youre running 10.5.6 or later you should have 1.6 installed already

mine was set to j2se 5 at 32 bit

okay i see your point

Uninstall the patch and the keyboard from preware (if you install it and didn't work) and install it back on there so the phone can reboot. After the phone reboot then it should work from there. Maybe this can help you, http://www.webos-internals.org/wiki/On_Screen_Keyboard#Install_Via_PreWare

I tried that one but no luck.

I ended up resetting the entire phone, then reinstalling and now it is working.

Good thing almost everything is web based.

During this process I thought of an idea for an application.

Having a program that will take systematic images of the folders that the profile doesn't hold and upload the information to an ftp server.

I don't have the time to write learn & write anything like this but someone might.

That would be a cool application that I would be willing to pay 5 bucks for and if you offered server space paying $10-15 per month wouldn't be unreasonable.

That sound like a good idea, i'm sure someone will adopt the idea and put it to good use. I wish i had the time as well to write some program for the palm pre but it can be very time consuming.

Also, the new version of WebOS quick Install (v.2.03) for your desktop can apply tweaks to your Palm Pre w/o rooting. You can do stuff like landscape your email, apply downloading thru browser, customize the dialer, and more. Go here: http://forums.precentral.net/homebrew-apps/194832-webos-quick-install.html

The official App Catalog for the Palm Pre has crept its way up to 48 total apps with three new additions today:

* UberPass: a password generator that promises to eventually become a password management solution, from Uberu.
* Lemonade: Your standard lemonade stand game, requires webOS 1.1, from Game Time for All
* CoinFlip: two guesses as to what this app does, if you can't pick one guess or the other, this app will probably help. from InspiringApps, who apparently have a flashlight and level on the way

As always, if the 48 in the official app catalog aren't enough for you, there's plenty in our Homebrew App Gallery, including the just-added classic, Zork I.

Thanks to Todd for the tip!

Update: Gabriel writes in to tell us to take another look, and what do we have here, but more apps! These are the apps that look new to me some may just be updates, though):

* DirecTV NFL (oh Hell Yes) - Live NFL Sunday Ticket on your Pre
* Tip 'Em Tip calculator
* Translator - congratulations Janni Kovacs!!
* The Globe and Mail - Toronto's daily for you Bell folks.
* TMaps DC - Transit maps for the DC Area
* Express Horoscopes from Handmark
* Zilch Lite - A Dice game
* Photo Dialer - a dialer app
* WikiHow - "the best of wikihow"
* Dumb Waiter - Another Tip Calculator, "With a twist."

Can't wait for the Pre to hit verizon. Might be late '09 or early '10 tho. ive been skimming thru the threads and theres a ton of good info on here.

I finally got a break from school this weekend.....

Im getting on the homebrew...Everything I own electronically is cracked or homebrewed or modded...... My Palm pre will be no exception!!!!

:yes::yes::yes:

i've been meaning to try preware out... looks like it may give access to a wider range of apps automatically

yeah... cuz it can do patches and tweaks to the OS... like the on-screen KB and the Mytether program. Filecoaster can only install ipks.

I'm a little dissapointed on the app developing though. Alot of these apps are getting repetitive. We still need a decent Instant Messenging app (I don't use the built in AIM cuz it adds all the SNs in your contact list), we need a full Facebook App, we need a call filtering program, we need better games, etc etc etc.

I think we won't see all the good apps until the next Web OS phones come out and Palm pushes more units so these big developers jump on it. Don't get me wrong, I love this phone but I'm getting sick of how much quick dials, launchers, find-where-to-go, and google voice apps can be created.

I agree but this is still better than going back to Windows Mobile

WebOS 1.2 Accidentally Leaked!

deviceinfo2009040912191.jpg

go4craig in our Palm Pre Forums has just posted that he applied the webOS Doctor (the 'last resort' method for getting your Pre back to factory standard) and, wonder of wonders, it installed webOS 1.2 for him. Guess what - same thing happened for forum member Leathal.

One of the new features the ability to enter your account information in the App Catalog - which isn't surprising given that we're expecting Palm to take the App Catalog into for-pay land sometime this month. That should also mean that 1.2 could potentially become available this month.

Also exciting, a new "Select all" option under the edit menu - the edit menu on the browser, meaning maybe, just maybe, we might be getting improved copy / paste functionality. Also - changes in location services that appear to resolve our complaints by giving us finer-grained control over how our location is tracked. You can also turn data usage on and off.

Both he and angrygoose managed to grab "(Build Sprint.100.166 08/30/09 08:03)" of the webOS Doctor, but the version that's up now is (Build Sprint.76.143 07/24/09 19:44), so if it was a leak, it was short-lived.

Update: Just spoke with Craig and it seems clear that this was an accidental leak from Palm via the vector described above. The browser does seem much improved (zoom animation) and there are little tweaks throughout. We hope this should hit officially soon!

Update 2: As tends to happen with these things, the 1.2 leak is out there on the internets. People, we strongly recommend you don't apply this to your Pre. If you do, the Pre may try to download / install the 1.1 update and then apply it if you're not careful -- a process which, for go4craig at least, caused some serious bricked phone action.

Update 3: Type to find within the email app is working - searches contacts and subjects at least, emails sadly not included in Universal Search. This thread is the place to check for everything that's new in 1.2.

Update 4: nullity points out that saving images from the browser now works.

We have a few more of his screenshots after the break! Thanks for the tip, Alex!

IMPORTANT INFO:
When 1.2 releases, DO NOT update your OS if you have tweaks (any rooting) and patches (on-screen KB). Please take off any patches and tweaks before updating.... you can easily do this through the check menu in WebOS Quick Install.

cli - glad youre back bruh i was beginning to think mad people were leaving

1.2 is coming soon

Nah I'm not going anywhere fam. Y'all just been beating me to the news updates as of late :lol:

I'm hoping the WebOS update allows for the ability to forward text messages, alert modification & improved battery management. If video & zoom capability is added then that would be a plus as well.
