I've got 8 homebrew apps. Mostly games. Nothing I use everyday, but I wanted to see how the development was coming along. So far no problems like resets or anything. Still running smooth.
Still wish I had an app to assign different ringtones for individual sms contacts.

What apps did you install & how was the install process? I haven't heard if any of them were streamlined into a simpler process yet. Have you tried un-installing any of those apps yet to see how they respond?

i had been contemplating going back to med school after i get my msn but i just dont have time to wait for the real money to come in after residency and fellowships. see im 31 and have a kid already. if my head was on straight when i was younger i woulda went straight through college to med school

There are people in here who are in their 40s.Man if you want to do this shit dont let anyone else tell you otherwise. Its just a matter of who can jump through the most hoops and study the hardest. All Medical school is is 4 years of hazing. They want to work you before you get a chance to be lazy and make 200K+ a year. The biggest attribute of a good medical student is reading comprehension. You can do that and do it quickly, you can be a doctor.


Man if you want it... go get it. Its definitely out there for you

my dad started off as Family Practice and got bored with it. He ended up going into internal med.

i think i would like general surgery or even trauma surgery
if i wanted to be lazy i would go into anesthesia

oh yeah my dad said his third year was the hardest. he actually had to repeat it. however, his mom died that year and his sister was murdered all in the same year so maybe that had something to do with him thinking his 3rd year was the hardest. and dont let them white folks get u down. he finished up at LSU in 1989 when LSU wasnt hardly lettin niggas into MED School

Yea, it is a great program Like I said once you learn it, you can make ringtones in about 30 seconds. I will write up a tutorial and include it below. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask in here.

Quick tutorial:

1.)Drag file to Audacity to import it.

2.)Split the stereo track:

3.)Cut it down to 1 channel. Because your phone only has 1 speaker and is mono.

4.)Set it to mono, again, you only have 1 speaker.

Click for full size

5.)Make your selection, just like you are highlighting text. You can listen to your selection by hitting play, and it will only play your selection. You can click and drag either end of your selection to add or subtract to or from it.

6.)Turn up the gain if you would like.

7.)Export selection

Click for full size

8.)Name it and select MP3. The default MP3 options should be fine for you, but if you know what you are doing feel free to tweak them. Then click save.

9.) To get it onto your phone, transfer it to the ringtone folder via USB Mode OR open the ringtone in iTunes and have your pre sync with iTunes.

Those are the only ways as far as we know.

Process:
works best on winXP
install new Java
install virtualbox
install Mojo sdk
put phone in dev mode with Konami code.

You run the virtualbox and mojo, but you don't actually "do" anything in the programs. While they're up, explore down to programfiles/palm/bin folder. Drag your downloaded .ipk files to the install.bat file found there.

Palm Job Listings Hint At The Future Of WebOS

Oh how we love job listings that reveal tantalizing details of upcoming plans. We especially love these two listings that just recently came to our attention.

First off is a job that was apparently listed way back on May 8th on Palm's career page:

VPN Network Engineer

To work with the Linux networking components to create a great networking experience for Palm's WebOS platform. This includes modifying open-source software to meet the needs for an embedded device, developing and maintaining WebOS specific VPN networking components.

Looks like those who wanted VPN on the Pre may get their wishes. It is a bit distressing this listing was posted back in May yet still hasn't been filled. Hopefully Palm will find a developer for this soon.

The second job listing in question was posted on the Mary-Margaret Network and really is just what the doctor ordered:

Game Frameworks Engineer

Palm is looking for developers who are passionate about gaming, handhelds, mobile communication and the possibilities for Palm in the gaming arena. The software developers we’re looking for will have strong mathematical/analytical skills and will be effective team members in a small, focused initiative.

Responsibilities: Design, implement, debug, and optimize frameworks for game development

Wow! This job listing is pretty fresh, being posted only on June 29th, but once the position gets filled, it'll really give something for developers to look forward to. Then disgruntled iPhone developers won't be able to brag how our Mojo SDK is bad for gaming (even though from the start Palm's been upfront about that). Aw, who are we kidding? They'll probably still complain anyway.

The way I see it, either Palm plans to create some gaming framework that has access via HTML/CSS/JavaScript but is run via a native graphics engine, or this our first hint of a native Linux SDK in the works. Though, as much as I'd like a native SDK, chances are we won't be seeing one for a while yet.

A dude I know put me on to pandora awhile ago but I didnt dig the 6 skips per hour per station. I since got on to Last.FM which is hot. But pandora is waaaaaaaay better. I put in an artist that I really dig "Aya" and it came back with a tight station for her including another chick from a separate genre who's one of my favorites.

No need for sattelite radio or even music files if you dont have any at your disposal with Pandora. Sound quality is good too.

Im cool I been making ringtones since 2000. I wasnt sure if those were your own screenshots in the tutorial or if you got it elsewhere. One of the song titles looks like a song by Journey- not the average shucky ducky denim long johns bgol fare.
I just use intros to songs I have on mp3 since the volume scales up in the beginning or I break out audacity if I want something special.

But if it's true, according to bigchico68 on the SprintUsers forum -- on or around 7/22, Palm will be pushing out the next webOS updates with some mouth water features like emoticon support, facebook friend sync bug, and more.

You can't use your SERO plan with the Pre. You'll have to jump to the $69 plan but I still think the phone is worth it. I can't speak for the other former WM heads but I got tired of having to tweak my phone just so it runs for longer than a month without freezing or so that it looks similar to the newer phones' operating systems. WM dropped the ball bigtime & continue to do so w/ them releasing WM6.5 instead of just jumping to WM7 already. Phones like the TouchPro would be a beast but WM sucks the life outta them.

cosign the winmo problems
ive had to power cycle my pre twice - both times it was because of charging questions I had - I plugged my phone into the new motorola charger and it showed as charging, later on I plugged it in again and no little lightning bolt on the battery showing it was charging. It wasnt the cable. I turned it off plugged it in again and it powered up- which means it saw the power. The charging sign was there again when it finished booting. I've had this for 16 days and its been on pretty much the entire time and been power cycled 2 times.

it does go kinda slow near my house when i switch from wifi to evdo in the car since I only get one bar at my crib but if I start it on evdo or Im anywhere else it runs good.

Thank you to all contributers to this thread. In less than a month this thread has already seen more action than the Android thread that was opened 2 months ago & is picking up steam. I can't wait til the apps really start dropping. This thread has the potential to help pave the way for a PDA/Smartphone thread for WebOS, Iphone, Android & WM users to all go for info.

Yeah I hate the Pre app for facebook. All you can do is view what's on the page. I prefer to go directly to the site via my browser & do what I want on there that way.
