A motorist who shot dead two environmental protesters blocking a road in Panama on Tuesday is a retired American lawyer, it has been revealed.

Kenneth Darlington, 77, appeared before a judge in the town of La Espiga on Wednesday afternoon, and after a two-hour hearing was remanded in custody.

According to local media, the Panamanian-born US citizen - who was seen in both video and pictures shooting dead two teachers blocking a road on a highway - has a previous conviction for illegal possession of a firearm.

It is understood he declared 'this ends here' before walking up to the road block on a section of the Pan-American Highway in the Chame district and getting into a heated argument with a group of men that included the two victims.

In front of a large number of photographers and television crews there to film the protest, he then gunned down the two men.

Eliécer Plicett, a lawyer for the two victims, said Darlington was being charged with murder and illegal possession of a gun, TVN Noticias reported. However, local media has reported he could avoid jail time because of his age.

Prison time for man accused of breaking into police station to retrieve his seized drugs

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (TND) — A man arrested six times since 2021 has been sentenced to prison for the first time.

Lyric Wynn, 23, was in court in Pennsylvania on Tuesday for parole and probation violations stemming from a list of incidents.

Authorities said Wynn tried to break into the Lock Haven Police Department to retrieve drugs that had been seized from him.

Later, police tried to pick him up on a probation detainer, but he ran away, which led to a chase and still Wynn wasn’t done for the day.

Authorities said in jail, he made a comment to a probation officer about how much she valued her life, and then he threw a container of an unknown fluid on the officer.

After that, they said he made several additional threats to harm other people including deputies and correctional officers.

At sentencing, the district attorney said Wynn claimed he was a "non-violent" offender and asked the judge to give him time served.

EDWARDSVILLE — A St. Louis County police officer was charged Thursday with a sex assault in Madison County.

Gavin M. Potthast, 25, of Edwardsville, was charged Oct. 26 with criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.

According to court documents, the charges were suppressed on Thursday and made public Friday after Potthast was taken into custody.
The case was presented by the Edwardsville Police Department.
According to court documents, on Sept. 23 Potthast allegedly used force or threat of force in the sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman.
A petition to remand him to jail was filed Oct. 26.
According to the petition, the woman allegedly was at his residence which they had previously shared when he made sexual advances to her. She refused, but Potthast allegedly persisted and "engaged in sex acts with the victim by force."
Officials with the St. Louis County Police Department confirmed Potthats is an officer with that department.
“We are disturbed by the allegations made regarding our officer’s behavior,” St. Louis County Police Col. Kenneth Gregory stated in a written response to questions about the incident. “We take any allegation seriously and are cooperating fully with Edwardsville Police Department’s investigation. We are also conducting a thorough internal investigation.

“The involved officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave,” Gregory said. “We hold our staff to a high level of integrity and expect them to treat every member of our community with dignity and respect.”
Sgt. Tracy Panus, a spokesperson for the department, said Potthast started with the department in December 2021.
This individual has only been charged and remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.

Georgia sheriff's candidate fired after sneaking into rival's locked office

And this CAC still support him to be sheriff.

Dale-Dillow_JCSO_12.jpg

JEFFERSON, Ga - When he suspected someone was snooping around in his office, a Jackson County sheriff’s deputy set up a hidden camera.

What that camera recorded last month has now upended the race for who should be the next sheriff and cost one of the candidates his county job.

"There’s only one person responsible for this," said Sheriff Janis Mangum. "This is not a political move on my part."

Earlier this year, Mangum announced she would not run for re-election in 2024. She has made no endorsement on her possible successor.

Captain Dale Dillow, commander of the sheriff’s investigative division, was the first to announce his candidacy for sheriff. Kevin McCook, head of training and community outreach, also announced. So did two others outside the sheriff’s office, Ken Harmon and Chris Nichols.

Around that time, McCook said he began wondering whether someone was sneaking into his locked office.

According to an interview he would later give to an outside investigator brought in by the sheriff, McCook said items on his desk had been moved from where he left them the day before.

He even started taking pictures of his desk before he left to compare to what the desk looked like when he returned. McCook said pens and papers were in different places.

He eventually switched offices.

"I started noticing it again, and I was like, ‘You gotta be kidding me,’" he told the investigator in a taped interview. "So now I started paying attention."

McCook went to Sheriff Magnum with his concerns. She suggested he install a camera. He bought a motion-activated camera with his own money and stashed it in the corner of his small office.

Then he waited to see what would happen next.

It took almost a month.

Finally, on Oct. 10 around 9:30 p.m., the camera recorded Dillow unlocking the door with a master key. McCook’s rival in the sheriff’s race snapped a picture of the desk calendar with his work cell phone, opened and closed one of the desk drawers, and then walked out and closed the door.

The entire event took around two minutes. When McCook watched the video, he said he was stunned.
"When you’re going into my locked office after hours, that’s a game-changer for me," he told the investigator.

Apology.jpeg

Part of the apology Dillow texted the sheriff after he was caught on camera.
McCook declined to talk to the FOX 5 I-Team. So did Dillow. The captain texted an apology to Magnum shortly after he was caught:
"I let the devil creep into my mind and let my insecurities take over. I have asked God and my family to forgive me. I ask you to forgive me and beg for mercy," he wrote.
Dillow told the investigator he was only trying to understand why McCook spent so much time outside the office.
"It looks terrible, but it wasn’t for ill intent," he insisted.
McCook handles community public speaking events for the sheriff as well as training. He’s not in Dillow’s chain of command.
Investigator: "This was not you trying to get any kind of political upper hand."
Dillow: "No. I know it looks like that, but I swear it wasn’t."
Dillow admitted he never took his concerns to the sheriff or McCook’s supervisor. He also insisted he only snuck into McCook’s office one other time, something McCook said was clearly not true.
Investigator: "One hundred percent politically motivated in your opinion?"
Dillow: "Yes, because it’s never happened before, and I’ve been doing this for years."

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum is retiring next year after 16 years in office. She said she was forced to fire one of the candidates who already filed to replace her.
Once she got the results of the outside investigation, Magnum fired Dillow, a member of her command staff but someone she felt she could no longer trust.
"I handled it the way I’ve handled anything," she explained. "It didn’t matter that he was running for sheriff, or they’re both running. That’s not why. That should not happen."
Dillow may have apologized privately, but as of this writing he has yet to mention the controversy on his campaign Facebook page. The latest post is for a golf tournament fundraiser next month.
He’s still in the race to be the next Jackson County sheriff.

A Florida man with a neck tattoo reading "All Gas, No Brakes" is facing charges after he and the woman he was with were caught on camera crashing into a parked car while fleeing from deputies, authorities said.
The incident happened early Monday morning in Davenport south of Orlando when Polk County deputies responded to reports of a man and a woman trying to burglarize multiple cars in a neighborhood.
The suspect vehicle, a white 2006 Cadillac CTS, was spotted by a deputy who tried to stop it, but the car fled into the neighborhood, officials said.
Since there was only one way in and out of the neighborhood, the deputy didn't pursue the car, which was speeding through the streets, officials said.
Video released by the sheriff's office showed the car speed past a deputy and a resident, who ran to get out of the way.
The Cadillac turned around and sped back down the same street, and that's when the video showed it slamming into a parked car.
Thankfully no one was inside the parked car but the man and woman had to be pulled out of the Cadillac, officials said.

After he was released from the hospital, Hogue was interviewed by detectives and he admitted to the burglaries, saying that it was Kozub’s idea, officials said. He also said that he fled because he "just freaked out."
Hogue, whose mug shot shows his "All Gas, No Brakes" neck tattoo and a bad cut on his forehead, was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, felony petit theft, fleeing to elude, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting without violence.
Kozub remained hospitalized after suffering a fractured leg in the crash but was expected to face charges.
Hogue has a prior criminal history that consists of 31 felonies and 18 misdemeanors while Kozub has amassed 19 felonies and 20 misdemeanors, officials said.
"Fleeing from a law enforcement traffic stop demonstrates very poor decision making, but to do it in a small, residential neighborhood at a high rate of speed is a terrible idea, and dangerous," Polk Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "It’s amazing and fortunate that nobody innocent was hurt or killed. They could have very easily crashed into a house. It should not come as a surprise that the driver has a tattoo on his neck that says, 'All gas, no brakes.'"
