Former Shelby County deputy takes plea deal in rape case
February 28, 2022 at 5:00 pm CSTBy FOX13Memphis.com News Staff
SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — A former Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was charged with rape has accepted a plea deal, according to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Brian Beck was indicted on two counts of rape by force or coercion and two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure in 2018. He was 43 at the time.

Investigators in the case said the charges stemmed from incidents involving a teenage girl that occurred over 20 months, dating back to May of 2016. The girl was just 14 at that time, investigators said.
FOX13 found out that Beck had been with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office since 2004 before being relieved of duty without pay following the charges.
Now, nearly four years after being indicted, Beck has accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to aggravated assault, receiving three years of probation but with the possibility of serving four years in prison if he violates the terms of his probation, according to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Beck now has a felony on his permanent record and can no longer carry a gun or be a law enforcement officer, the district attorney’s office said.
The court's reasoning for the deal, per the document obtained by Law & Crime, was that "the defendant is not likely again to engage in a criminal course of conduct...to the satisfaction of the Court." As such, it was decided that "the ends of justice and the welfare of society do not require that the Defendant shall presently suffer the penalty imposed by law by incarceration."
