Florida Man sent $200K in stolen cash to cam girl before killing family

grant-amato.jpg

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - Prior to gunning down his parents and brother in their Chuluota home, the man accused of killing them stole $200,000 from the victims to fund an online, pornographic relationship with a woman in Bulgaria, according to a Seminole County arrest warrant.

Grant Amato, 29, was arrested Monday morning and is accused of killing his parents, Chad Amato, 59, and Margaret Amato, 61, and his brother, Cody Amato, 31. They were found dead Friday in their home on Sultan Circle in Chuluota after a coworker reported Cody Amato hadn't shown up for work.

In the three months beforehand, deputies said Grant Amato stole $200,000 from his parents and brother and wired those funds to a woman in Bulgaria with whom he had been communicating since June on Cam Girls, an adult website.

Investigators spoke with the suspect's surviving brother, who said Grant Amato was speaking with an online call girl and sending her large amounts of money. The brother said the girl knew where the family lived, and that concerned Margaret Amato.

Grant Amato told investigators his parents gave him an ultimatum after they learned about the theft: Complete a 60-day internet and sex addiction program, or leave the family home. Grant Amato went Dec. 22 to a facility in Fort Lauderdale and checked out Jan. 4, according to the arrest warrant.

The suspect entered the treatment facility two days after Chad and Margaret Amato reported Grant Amato missing Dec. 20 and told Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies their son was suffering from depression, according to the incident report. The couple told deputies Grant Amato had access to firearms and they were "100 percent convinced he will try to harm himself."

The missing persons report was closed with the Sheriff's Office after deputies spoke with Grant Amato and said their evaluation did not indicate he needed a psychiatric evaluation. He told deputies he just needed a break from his mother and did not intend to harm himself.

When he returned from the south Florida facility to his parents' home in Chuluota, they laid out ground rules and said if he broke any of the rules, he would have to immediately leave the home, Amato told investigators.

One of the guidelines Chad Amato set for his 29-year-old son included no communications with the Bulgarian woman. Grant Amato told investigators this was unfair because she was his girlfriend and he continued to talk to her online. Chad Amato learned about their continued relationship and confronted his son on the night of Jan. 24, telling the suspect to leave the house, according to the arrest report.

The family was found dead the next morning, all suffering from "execution style" wounds, according to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office crime scene analysts.

Investigators said Grant Amato took several steps to try and provide a cover-up story, including writing a fake note from his brother, Cody Amato, that told him to "just please come home."

Cody Amato's girlfriend told investigators that over the past few months, the family had problems with the suspect that included him stealing $60,000 from Cody Amato and his guns. The girlfriend said Grant Amato sold the firearms without his brother's permission.

Cody Amato had previously expressed concern that his brother would kill everyone, his girlfriend told investigators.

A previous arrest report shows Grant Amato was fired from his job at a hospital after he was accused of stealing prescription pills.

Grant Amato was detained for questioning Saturday but was released Sunday. He was arrested hours after his release around 1 a.m. Monday at a Lake Mary hotel.

Amato is charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

"This is not a slam dunk for the defense by any stretch,” attorney Steven Kramer said. “This is a case where it is going to depend on really good hard-nose detective work. … Any case like this, where all you have is forensic information and circumstantial evidence and where you don't have eyewitnesses, makes it more difficult to connect the dots."

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said 56-year-old Mark Edwin Turner was charged with felony malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon (BRRJ)

BEDFORD Co., Va.(WSET)-- Prosecutors said an argument over which truck manufacturer was better led to a fight that left three people shot in Bedford County, Virginia.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office said 56-year-old Mark Edwin Turner was charged with felony malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

A911 call came in around 11:30 p.m. April 22from reporting gun shots.

#BREAKING - Officers are investigating a shooting on Shepherd Lane in Bedford. Right now, access to that road is blocked at Mob Creek Road and Moneta Road. Working to get info.

Law enforcement responded and found three people outside of the residence with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries.

Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney Wes Nance said Turner, his girlfriend, her son, and her son's girlfriend were having a pre-Easter dinner at their home.

Nance said the four were in the front yard when an argument started between Turner and his girlfriend's son about if Chevy or Ford is a better car manufacturer. During the argument, Nance said Turner pulled out a knife and his girlfriend tried to get between the two.

They said she was stabbed in the lower back area by Turner, leaving a six-inch wound.

Nance said Turner then went into the house and came back outside with a gun. His girlfriend put herself between Turner and her son again when Nance said Turner shot her five times in the leg.

The woman's son was shot in the arm, Nance said there was an entry and exit wound.

The son's girlfriend was hit by two bullets that Nance said ricocheted; one hit her in the back and one hit her in the cheek.

Law enforcement and a tactical team were called to the home and warrants show investigators found the three victims yelling in pain saying that had been shot by Turner.

At that time, Nance said Turner went back inside and continued to come out of the home to yell at officers. Nance said he was more agitated each time he came outside, but had a cell phone in his hand the whole time and not a weapon.

Deputies eventually hit Turner with a bean bag round and then took him into custody.

According to search warrants, drugs were involved as investigators had "two victims indicating there was possible drug activity at the residence" and investigators searched the home looking for illegal substances.

Search warrants also show investigators took several items from the home, including two cell phones, one in the yard and one on the porch, a pistol, wooden baseball bat, smoking device, three green plants, and drug paraphernalia.

Nance said Turner isn't facing any charges, right now, for the bullets that ricocheted and hit the son's girlfriend, but that could change and he could face more charges.

Turner was denied bond in court Monday, but he has an appeal Friday at 1:30 p.m.

YouTube Star Gets 10 Years for Coaxing Underage Female Fans to Share Sexually Explicit Videos
Jeff Truesdell,People Fri, May 3 6:32 PM EDT
Singer and former YouTube sensation Austin Jones was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to coaxing underage female fans to send him sexually explicit videos of themselves.

The sentence was handed down Friday in federal court in Chicago, according to WGN, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune.

Prosecutors had sought to lock up Jones, 26, for 11 years following his admission in February that he had online conversations with six underage girls on Facebook between 2016 and 2017. During those exchanges, he coerced the girls into making the videos for his benefit.

“He preyed on their youth, their vulnerabilities and most glaringly, their adoration of him, and he did it over and over again,” prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois said in a court filing last week, reports the Tribune. “He coached the girls on what to wear, what to say, how to dance and what to do in the videos.”

With more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers at the time, Jones, from the Chicago suburb of Bloomingdale, produced videos that were viewed millions of times. He told some of the girls they would have to “prove” their devotion to him by making and sending the explicit videos, and discussed with others that he could help them attract followers on Instagram, prosecutors said.

Jones admitted to authorities that he attempted to coerce minors on Facebook into providing him with the sexually explicit videos and photographs on approximately 30 different occasions.

A criminal complaint filed in 2017 detailed his alleged interactions with two victims, in 2016 and 2017, when they were 14. Both victims sent him multiple sexually explicit videos.

Jones initially faced two federal counts of producing child pornography upon his arrest in June 2017, but under a plea agreement he pleaded guilty to only one count of receipt of child pornography.

The conviction carried a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a possible maximum of 20 years.

Jones’ attorney, Gerardo S. Gutierrez, could not immediately be reached for comment.

In the videos, which were sent through Facebook Messenger, Jones allegedly told the victims to twerk — a form of dancing — and expose their buttocks and repeat how old they were, in the course of which they also showed their genitals, according to the complaint obtained by PEOPLE.

“You need an intro to the video,” he allegedly told one of the girls, identified in court documents as Victim A. “At the beginning, get super close and say these lines: hey Austin, it’s [name] and this butt is [age] years old and then make it clap for 30 seconds. Got it?”

The court documents show she appeared to follow this request.

“Hey Austin, my name is [Victim A’s first name] and my butt is 14 years old,” she began one video, allegedly sent to Jones, before she danced against a wall, according to the complaint.

In August 2016, Jones and another 14-year-old girl, identified as Victim B, communicated through Facebook chat for two days, the complaint alleged. The pair talked about how young she was and how much she liked his music.

According to the document, Jones allegedly repeatedly told her that she was “so lucky” to have his attention and would have to “prove” how much of a fan she was. After one video, he allegedly responded, “In the next one, you have to prove you’re my biggest fan. I know you can do it!”

“How amazing that would be for you!! To have your favorite singer spanking your a–!” he allegedly wrote to her at one point. “If you’re lucky, maybe I’d let you suck my d—.”

According to an Alternative Press article in May 2015, Jones was accused of lying about his age so girls would send him videos of them twerking. An online petition in 2015 made similar claims.

In a statement and video he released in response to the claims, Jones said he had asked his fans for “twerking videos” — but nothing more.

“It’s not something that I’m proud of, it’s not something that I think is right, and I shouldn’t have done it,” he said in the video, which was titled “Setting The Record Straight.”

A convicted sex offender wanted in the mutilation murder of a 77-year-old man in Miami Beach was nabbed during a scuffle with two cops as he stepped off the L train in Manhattan, police said Monday.

Nicholas Brent Gibson, 32, had been on the run since the murder last month of Erik Stocker, 77.

Stocker was found in his apartment April 30, though it’s believed he was killed 10 days earlier.

Gibson, who was also sought by the U.S. Marshals for failing to register as a sex offender in an unrelated case in Illinois more than a decade ago, was tracked to New York.

On Friday, Miami Beach police detectives came to the city and handed out Gibson’s picture, the NYPD said.

Then, just before 9:20 a.m. Sunday, an NYPD officer and a sergeant assigned to the Transit Bureau spotted Gibson as he got off the last car of the L train at the 1st Ave./14th St. station.

Gibson fought back, the NYPD said. The cops suffered minor injuries but were able to handcuff Gibson with the help of an MTA track worker who grabbed the suspect’s legs and held on while the cops subdued the suspect.

Gibson is awaiting extradition to Florida.

Christian Martin (pictured), 51, who has been accused of murdering three people in 2015 was arrested in Kentucky on Saturday

A commercial airline pilot accused of murdering three people and burning their bodies beyond recognition in 2015 was arrested at a Kentucky airport on Saturday.

Christian Richard Martin, 51, of Apex, North Carolina, who reportedly flies planes for an American Airlines subsidiary company, was taken into custody at Louisville International Airport early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Investigators said Martin is the man who shot 59-year-old Calvin Phillips to death in the cellar of his Pembroke, Kentucky home in November 2015.

Calvin's wife, Pamela Phillips, 58, and their neighbor, Edward Dansereau, 63, were found a few miles away in a cornfield inside her burned out car.

The victims' bodies were burned beyond recognition, their family members said.

Attorney General Andy Beshear claimed that Martin shot his victims and used a car to transport the bodies of Pamela and Dansereau to a nearby cornfield where he set the vehicle on fire with the corpses inside.

While there has been no official motive given, Martin faced charges of child rape and mishandling classified information just before the murders. Martin, who is a former Fort Campbell Army Major, had also been accused of beating his stepson.

In that case, Calvin Phillips was listed as a potential witness for the prosecution.

The couple's neighbor, Edward Dansereau (pictured), 63, was also found in the burning vehicle alongside Pamela

At the time, Calvin Phillips, Martin's next door neighbor, discovered that information on CDs and laptops, according to Fox 17.

But Calvin was killed before he could testify against Martin and later went about his life working as a commercial airline pilot.

The child rape charges were later dropped against Martin, who has three children, and he was convicted of two counts of mishandling of classified material and two counts of assault of a child.

Martin was sentenced to three months in jail and was discharged from the military.

One one of the witnesses in the trial, and his wife, and Dansereau, were murdered he was named as a person of interest but was not charged with murder at the time.

According to the news station, Martin's defense team argued that the allegations against him were the product of a high-conflict marital situation.

American Airlines said that Martin has been a Bombardier CRJ First Officer for PSA Airlines since January 2018. American Airlines wholly-owns PSA Airlines, which operates an all-jet American Eagle fleet, the company told WDRB.

'All of us at American Airlines and PSA Airlines are deeply saddened to have learned about these allegations from 2015.

'Our team was made aware of the indictment this morning after his arrest at Louisville International Airport,' an American Airlines spokesperson said.

'We have an unwavering commitment to the safety and security of our customers and team members, and we will provide any investigative assistance possible to law enforcement throughout their investigation.'

The company said Martin has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.

A criminal background check conducted on Martin found no 'criminal history that would disqualify him from being a commercial pilot,' the airline said.

His arrest happened in front of airport staffers and patrons. Martin was still wearing his pilot's uniform in a Christian County Jail mugshot photo released by officials.

'It was like something you would totally see in a movie,' witness Ashley Martin of Elizabethtown, Kentucky told WDRB.

'It was very tense,' added fellow witness Frances Wise who was waiting to board an American Airlines flight when the arrest happened. 'You could tell the employees knew something was going on,' she continued.

Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies arrested Martin at Louisville International Airport (pictured) in the Bluegrass State's largest city early Saturday morning

The case was brought to Beshear's attention two years ago by the couple's son, Matt Phillips, who was worried the case had stalled.

Beshear accepted a request from the local commonwealth attorney to appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case.

Relatives of Calvin and Pamela Phillips had offered a $100,000 reward to help solve the case.

On Friday, he was indicted on three counts of first degree murder, arson, attempted arson, burglary and three counts of tampering with evidence.

Martin moved from Christian County after the slayings and was living in North Carolina at the time of the indictment.

The victims' family members released a joint statement following Martin's arrest.

'Every day, we are haunted by what was done to them and haunted further that someone was still free to do as they wish, beyond the civility of mankind or laws of our nation,' the statement reads.

'We are overwhelmed with this positive step towards resolution for people we love dearly... We look forward to justice in court, and we look forward to a verdict to bring an end to this terror, and a fresh start at healing.'

During a press conference, Bashear said he hopes the suspect's arrest 'brings some justice' to the victims' families.

'There are many steps from here, but we hope this is one example of when you never stop seeking justice, when you never give up, that we can truly get important results for these families,' he added.

Martin is being held without bond at the Christian County Detention Center.

A West Virginia woman who was fired from her job in 2016 after writing a demeaning Facebook post about Michelle Obama pleaded guilty Tuesday to defrauding the Federal Emergency Management Agency out of thousands of dollars in disaster benefits.

Pamela Taylor, 57, admitted to falsely registering for more than $18,000 in FEMA disaster benefits after flooding in Clay County, West Virginia, in June 2016, the U.S. attorney's office said Wednesday in a statement. The floods killed 23 people.

Taylor claimed that her primary residence had been damaged in the flood and that she was staying in a rental property, the prosecutor's office said. Her home was not damaged, however, and she still lived there.

"The flood was a natural disaster," U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart said in the statement. "Stealing from FEMA is a manmade disaster."

In her plea deal, Taylor agreed to pay restitution of $18,149.04. She faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000 when she is sentenced on May 30.

Taylor could not immediately be reached for comment.

Taylor's name and residences match those of the Pamela Taylor who was fired from her job as director of the Clay County Development Corporation after the November 2016 Facebook post, according to The Charleston Gazette-Mail.

After Donald Trump's election as president, Taylor wrote on Facebook: "It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I'm tired of seeing a Ape in heels."

A Florida woman has been arrested after she posted a bizarre Facebook status threatening to 'shoot everyone' at the nearest elementary school.

Juliana Cote, 26, of Tampa, was charged with written threats to commit a mass shooting or terrorism on Friday, according to WFTV.

She is currently being held in prison on a $7500 bond.

Cote uploaded the Facebook post on Thursday evening, accompanied by a photo of a miniature toy gun.

'Hello. I used to believe that guns were only for men, and stable rational people. But I, Juliana Cote, a unipolar manic autistic, got this lil sucker here for FREE!' she wrote, referring to the toy gun.

'Apparently all us mental ills are legally alloud (sic) to have these types of guns. I call it: The Lil Tiny Gun of Evil Evilness. It came to me. So call 911 cause I'm heading to the nearest elementary school now. To shoot everyone. Then myself if I'm fast enough.'

Feds charge NYPD cop in murder-for-hire plot against estranged husband and boyfriend’s teen daughter

NYPD Officer Valerie Cincinelli has been charged with enlisting her boyfriend to find a hitman who could murder her former spouse. (Obtained by Daily News)

One murder plot too many did in an NYPD cop who wanted a hit man to kill her soon-to-be ex-husband and her current boyfriend’s teen daughter, federal authorities said said Friday.

Officer Valerie Cincinelli, 34, first asked her boyfriend to find a killer-for-hire to slay her ex Isaiah Carvalho, court papers say.

But after Cincinelli added her boyfriend’s 15-year-old daughter to the hit list, the boyfriend began cooperating with the FBI, say prosecutors.

Cincinelli was told her scheme partly succeeded on Friday, when a Suffolk County detective showed up at her home in Oceanside, L.I. to report that Carvalho was dead, and that police were investigating.

After the visit, Cincinelli called her boyfriend. “The hitman did it,” she said in the phone conversation, which authorities tapped. “He did his work. We need to work on our alibi."

But the detective’s visit was a ruse. Cincinelli’s ex-husband and her boyfriend’s teen daughter were both fine.

Soon afterward, Cincinelli was under arrest.

The diminutive cop, sporting a Victoria’s Secret hoodie and sweatpants, wept openly as she was ordered held without bail at a hearing in Islip Federal Court.

NYPD Officer Valerie Cincinelli in an undated photo. (Obtained by Daily News)
Cincinelli has “a history of violence and volatile relationships,” said assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Gatz.

Before her arrest, Carvalho and another ex-husband had both filed orders of protection against Cincinelli, a 12-year NYPD veteran and mother of two. Cincinelli, in turn, had an order of protection against Carvalho.

Cincinelli also has a checkered NYPD disciplinary history.

She joined the department in 2007 and spent most of her career in the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park, Queens. She was stripped of her gun and badge after she began an affair with an Ozone Park resident, and was transferred to another police unit that monitors public housing surveillance cameras, police sources said.

After her arrest Friday, the NYPD suspended Cincinelli without pay.

Cincinelli’s alleged murder-for-hire plot took several turns after she hatched it in February, say the feds.

When the boyfriend — not named in court papers — said he knew someone who would carry out the killings for $7,000, Cincinelli immediately got the money from the bank, said prosecutors.

She then agreed to pay another $3,000 when the boyfriend said the phantom hitman upped his price.

Cincinelli asked that the murders be staggered over two weeks. She demanded the hitman kill Carvalho, who sells fireworks, at his place of business in Holtsville and make it look like a robbery, the feds allege.

On Monday, Cincinelli’s boyfriend told her that the hitman was at Carvalho’s workplace, and that he needed to know the make and model of his car.

Cincinelli said that killing Carvalho near his workplace was not a good idea, suggesting instead that the murder take place "in ‘the hood’ or ‘the ghetto’” so it would not look suspicious, according to a criminal complaint.

She also hoped that the boyfriend’s daughter could be gunned down near her school in New Jersey.

Told the hitman wouldn’t kill the teen near a school, Cincinelli allegedly responded: “Run her the f--- over. How about that?”

Carvalho filed for divorce from Cincinelli last year. His lawyer Erika Sakol said the murder for hire plot was a complete shock, and that there were no outward signs of extreme hatred in the relationship.

The couple was working out their differences, Sakol said. “We thought we’d be settled before the trial,” she said. “It seems a little surreal.”

“Isiah is extremely thankful for the work of law enforcement," Sakol said. “Without their diligent efforts, who knew what would happen?”

Cincinelli’s father said the allegations make no sense to him. “She’s not guilty,” Louis Cincinelli told the Daily News.

He blamed his daughter’s problems with the law on her boyfriend. “This is the second time he’s done this,” the indignant dad said. “He made allegations that she pulled a gun on him and threatened to kill him. This is the second time he’s had her arrested.”

“She threw him out two weeks ago because he’s a pathological liar,” he said. “I know my daughter and there’s no way she would do such a thing.”

Cincinelli’s neighbors were also surprised.
