Official NBA 2017-2018 Thread - Final day of the regular with playoff seating still unknown

Man truth be told...Russell was done after that Nick Young shit....(if my opinion was asked, I'd say what I thought)

Done with the Lakers, I agree. Scott aint like em and we know how close Magic and Byron is. Hope Lonzo brings Showtime back to LA, the league needs it. We'll be fine with Russell in Brooklyn.

Brett Brown Not Playing Jahlil Okafor in Garbage Time ‘Out of Respect’

Sixers head coach Brett Brown won’t play Jahlil Okafor—not even in garbage time.

After the Sixers’ 101-81 blowout win against the Blazers on Wednesday, Brown said he didn’t put Okafor in the game “out of respect to him.”

Was there any thought of putting in Okafor [during garbage time] to get some minutes?

Brown: “No. I don’t think it’s fair. I think that you get into a playing rhythm, a playing routine, and that’s fair.

“To just hoist somebody a little tiny window of minutes isn’t something that interests me.

“And I say that out of respect to him. I don’t think that puts him in a position that I want to put him in.”

Hopefully he’s on the bench in street clothes. If not I’d start showing up in them if I were him.

No point in suiting up if they have no intention on playing you.

Heat overcome 7-point first quarter for win
Thanks to a 38-point second quarter and Goran Dragic's 24, the Heat come out on top in a 100-93 win over the Bulls.

Grizzlies bench Marc Gasol in fourth, extend skid to 8 losses
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The misery remains for the Memphis Grizzlies, and friction seems to be building in the locker room.

Memphis dropped its eighth straight on Sunday in a 98-88 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. The Grizzlies made a fourth-quarter dent in a Nets lead that stretched to 19, all while center Marc Gasol was in his warm-ups on the bench. Despite matching Tyreke Evans for the team lead with 18 points, Gasol, who leads the team in scoring, rebounds and assists, wasn't called on to play in the final period.

And he wasn't pleased.

"I do not know the why," Gasol said of not playing down the stretch, later adding: "It's a first for me, trust me, and I don't like it one bit. I'm more [ticked] than I can show and frustrated."

Speaking before Gasol, Memphis coach David Fizdale said his decision was based on the reserves playing well and cutting into the Brooklyn lead. He said not much has worked for the team during the skid, particularly Sunday, when the Grizzlies gave up the lead in a poor third quarter.

Asked about Gasol's reaction about not playing down the stretch, Fizdale said: "We'll address it if it needs to be addressed, but it was a pretty simple decision what I did. It's nothing against him. I'm trying to win a game. I'm desperate."

While the Grizzlies were grousing, the Nets were celebrating, at least for one night, after snapping a three-game losing streak.

DeMarre Carroll scored a season-high 24 points and Trevor Bookeradded 16 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Harris finished with 13 points for the Nets, who used a third-quarter spurt to put away the Grizzlies.

The teams were tied at 47 at the break, but the Nets opened the second half with a 22-6 run, looking much more fluid on offense than in the opening half. Brooklyn connected on nine of its first 15 shots to build the lead, outscoring the Grizzlies 32-18.

"We came out in the second half and got two big stops, scored," Brooklyn coach Kenny Atkinson said. "We picked up our energy in the second half. The first part of the third quarter, that's where I thought the game turned."

Memphis was able to get back in the game to open the final period, composing a 12-3 run. Memphis got the deficit to five points, but the Brooklyn lead was too much to overcome.

"We wanted to get out in transition and make them run," Harris said, "and I thought we did better at that in the second half."

TIP-INS

Nets: Harris started in Allen Crabbe's place. ... Carroll's previous season high was 18 on Oct. 25 against Cleveland. ... The Nets shot 45 percent from the field, breaking a string of surpassing 50 percent the past two games and three of the previous four. ... The Nets had 19 assists, breaking a streak of at least 24 assists in their last five.

Grizzlies: Memphis had not lost eight straight since a similar skid from Feb. 11 to March 3, 2009. ... The team announced that Chandler Parsons tweaked his knee and did not return in the second half. The team characterized it as a precautionary move.

MORE INJURY TROUBLES

The Nets, who already were without D'Angelo Russell and Jeremy Lin with long-term injuries, had more setbacks. Crabbe, who was going to start, was a late scratch with a sore lower back. Then in the second quarter, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson went down with a right ankle sprain. "It's unfortunate that we have so many injuries right now, but that's why we have 15 guys on the team," Booker said.

MORE MARC MUSINGS

Gasol spent a lot of time answering questions about the fourth-quarter situation in the Grizzlies locker room. Even after the team's public relations staff asked if everyone was finished, Gasol said he was willing to keep talking, expressing his displeasure about the situation. "I'm just as competitive as anybody," he said. "I hate not playing. That's what I value the most. If I'm not on the floor, I'm not valued. I'm sure [the coaching staff] knew that would hurt me the most."

NBA Trade Rumors: Top 4 Best Destinations For DeAndre Jordan
Fadeaway World
DeAndre Jordan is one of the best rim protectors in the league, and a very complete center overall even though his offensive game isn’t the most developed, but he still finds ways to be extremely effective below the rim.

Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem like he can be of much help for a sluggish Los Angeles Clippers team that got off to a terrific start of the season despite the loss of Chris Paul , but that has mightily struggled with injuries of 3 of his starters in Milos Teodosic, Danilo Gallinari and Patrick Beverley and seem to be in quite a predicament.

Losers of 9 in a row, the Clippers season is already looking pretty awful and it doesn’t seem like they can turn things around quickly. So, considering they already have All-Star caliber talent in Blake Griffin and that this upcoming NBA Draft seems to be quite stacked, they’d be better off tanking throughout the rest of the campaign.

And of course, that would leave DeAndre Jordan as their lone “tradeable” and valuable asset, as he could be a major force down low for any suitors willing to risk a couple of young prospects in order to lure him. That’s why today, we’re going to let you know about the top 4 trade destinations for DeAndre Jordan.

4. Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks have already made some noise this season while trading away Greg Monroe to bring Eric Bledsoe on board, and even though they still got Thon Maker (who’s currently working with Kevin Garnett) and John Henson, DeAndre Jordan would be an upgrade for their present aspirations.

Milwaukee is one of the most exciting projects in the Association and they’re already playing outstanding basketball despite their youth, so they could part ways with John Henson (who’d have a very long leash at LA) alongside Jabari Parker (injury-prone player), so the Buck can create a powerful lineup with Bledsoe, Middleton, Antetokoumpo, and if they move Thon Maker on the power forward position, with DeAndre Jordan on the center, they will have the strongest starting lineup in the Eastern Conference.

3. Sacramento Kings
Sacramento is one of the most mediocre teams in the Association right now, something that’s not surprising at all considering how young their roster is. Still, with their constant win-now aspirations, they could try to bring Jordan on board in exchange for Skal Labissiere, Willie Cauley-Stein, and future 2nd rounder.

This move wouldn’t make much sense for the Sacramento Kings, but we already know they truly love to shoot themselves in the foot. Of course, Jordan would be a major improvement for them by now, but they’d be giving up young assets that may wind up being great players for their rebuilding process.

2. Phoenix Suns
The Phoenix Suns are pretty much a disaster right now, but it still feels like they’re just a couple of pieces away from becoming a huge dynasty in the future. Phoenix is craving for a rim protector ever since signing Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan might as well be the answer to their woes.

Besides, considering they already got Devin Booker and Josh Jackson as their future cornerstones, they just need another guy down low to make some noise in the Western Conference, so they could try and send a future 2nd rounder to the Clippers alongside Dragan Bender and Greg Monroe to land DJ.

1. Cleveland Cavaliers
Well, DeAndre hasn’t been really close to winning an NBA Championship despite playing alongside Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, so he’d be thrilled to have an easy ride to the Finals playing alongside LeBron James, Kevin Love and Isaiah Thomas at Quicken Loans Arena for sure.

The Cavs are in desperate need of a true big man and rim protector and they currently own the much desired Brooklyn Nets 1st round pick and pairing that with Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert would be a very attractive deal for the Clippers.

Another option could be Tristan Thompson + Nets’ 1st round pick.

LeBron James will not wait anymore for young players to develop, so the Cavs’ Front Office will react as soon as possible to land one All-Star player until the trade deadline.

Is Boston, Or Philadelphia The Future Of The Eastern Conference?

Hoop Central
celtics-sixers.jpg

There’s two teams that are in position to rule the roost in the Eastern Conference for many many years to come – The 76ers and the Celtics. But, which team will be the kingmaker? And which team will be second? Or will they go back and forth like the old Lakers/Celtics?

You could pick either team and have really strong points for them. The 76ers could have not one, but two franchise players with Joel Embiid, and Ben Simmons. If you told me that both players make the top 20 players all time by the time they hang the kicks up, I would not be surprised at all. Not to mention, key players like Robert Covington, and Embiid are locked up for multiple years, and Ben Simmons is still making rookie money – giving them leeway to pursue an expensive free agent.

As far as Boston goes, they have better management, way better coaching, and a superstar point guard in Kyrie Irving. Not to mention, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are still college aged kids who are just starting to blossom. Boston also is way better defensively than Philadelphia is, giving them breathing room if Kyrie has a bad shooting night. You have strong reasons for either team, but Boston right now looks to be in the driver’s seat of the Eastern Conference until Philadelphia can stay healthy consistently and bring in a veteran point guard.

Cavs-Sixers game setting up to be a good one. James might go for 60 tonight. Taking this Ben Simmons comparison talk serious.

How would Jordan help Cleveland? He is a little better defensive player than Thompson, but he doesn't switch like Thompson, and his offense is still trash.

and they the hell would the Clips want Thompson?

and Golden State has the disrespect for the Kings, treating them like the Bulls and playing half the team.

That's fucked up about Fizdale

Hornets were tougher for the Cavs to beat than the 76ers. :roflmao2:

Wade has seemed to find his role with the 2nd unit. Cavs desperately need a rim protector.
