Official NBA 2016-2017 Thread - 30 teams, 1 goal. 2 weeks left, so much can happen!!

Da fuck wrong with the Rockets? Why the hell would you give up a first round pick for Lou Williams? GM's better learn to stop throwing away these 1st round picks. :smh:

Williams will be under contract for next year and Brewer was making more than him I believe. Rockets 1st round pick is likely a bottom 5 pick this year. Morey has always dangled late first round picks as trade bait for players who can help right away.

Yeah I guess your right. Brewer was making too much. I'd start slowing down with getting rid of picks like that though. Don't think the pick will be that low either. But I see your point still.

They're pretty much making the same

I won't shit on Brewer too hard, I think dude just lost a step as a slasher and snow birder, lol. I'll always appreciate him for helping the Rockets make that epic playoff come back against the Clippers a few years ago. Him and Josh Smith played out of their mind while Harden watched from the bench.

im a fan of brewer though lol get money!

Teams pursuing Brooklyn’s Bojan Bogdanovic suggest they’re ramping up on offers, process moving closer to Nets choosing best available deal.

Looks like we're in full tank mode to try and keep that top three pick

Yeah, not sure that's what they needed

I really wish we could get rid of Deng :smh:

Lou Will's contract was reasonable and he actually produced
I dont understand why the Lakers havent been in full tank mode sooner; I just dont see why they dont let there players developed; Get another good pick and just let them developed; they will be good in like 3-4 years; Just in time for the tail end of GS run....

They done with George Hill already?
The Utah Jazz have expressed interest in re-acquiring former All-Star guard Deron Williams via trade from the Dallas Mavericks, according to league sources. No deal appeared imminent Tuesday night, sources told ESPN.com, but Utah has registered its interest in bringing Williams back to his original team, with Dallas open to trading both Williams and center Andrew Bogut in advance of Thursday’s 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Report: Iman Shumpert available, but Cavs not rushing into trade market

iman-shumpert-1.jpg

This year’s NBA trade deadline (February 23rd at 3:00 p.m. EST) is approaching fast, and teams across the association are scrambling to find available pieces that best fit their rotational puzzle.

The defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers have certainly been among the teams who are “in the market,” but it seems they don’t want to rush into anything, as Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reported earlier this afternoon.

As Amico stated, there may still be players available through the post-trade deadline buyout market. Whether or not the Cavs make another roster move can only be speculated on at this point.

Amico also reports that Iman Shumpert, Cleveland’s savvy defenseman, is indeed available. Shumpert, a 6-foot-5 guard who is averaging 7.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 25.4 minutes per game, has been receiving a lot of attention from teams around the league.

Shumpert, 26, has been a key component of Cleveland’s rotation for a long time, and the city loves his work ethic. The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, who is currently carrying the highest offensive rating of his career (111 points per 100 possessions), has been helping his Cavs teammates fill the void that was created when J.R. Smith went down with a fractured right thumb. This season, “Shump,” as Shumpert is affectionately known, is shooting a career-high 40.3 percent from beyond the three-point line. However, with the Cavs’ recent acquisition of Kyle Korver, and a plethora of marksman on the wings, Shumpert could indeed be a player involved in a deal.

Both Amico Hoops and ESPN reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves are among the teams who have strong interest in Shumpert’s services. The Timberwolves haven’t quite recovered from their sluggish start to the season, but they are just three and a half games out of the eighth and final playoff seed in the Western Conference. Shumpert could be a solid replacement for Minnesota’s Zach LaVine, who has been ruled out for the season due to the torn ACL he suffered earlier this month.

If anyone on the Cavs’ roster has value in trade talks, it’s Shumpert. With lock-down defensive skills, impressive athleticism, and an aggressive mentality, it’s no wonder why teams are interested.

The ripple effect of the Boogie Cousins trade may reach the Cavs

On a night when the Pelicans Anthony Davis scored 52 in the All Star Game, the bigger news was New Orleans acquisition of another big man, DeMarcus Cousins. For the past few seasons, Cousins has swirled around the rumor mill quite frequently. His stardom playing out West for Sacramento has often been overshadowed by his character issues on the floor and in the locker room. His rift with head coach George Karl, along with 11 ejections and 109 technical fouls in his six-plus years in the NBA, are examples of a few of his issues since the Kings drafted him in 2010.

By pairing Cousins alongside superstar Davis, the Pelicans now have the most formidable front court in the league, as both guys are scoring better than 27 points a night to go along with more than 10.5 boards. With both players playing big minutes every night, there will be only minimal playing time for other big men, which could lead to a player like Terrence Jones entering the trade market withThursday’s trade deadline looming. With the Cavs still looking to add a piece or two, don’t sleep on their interest in Jones.

With the recent addition of Derrick Williams, Cavs fans may be wondering why they would go after a player similar in stature. Remember, Williams has only played four games with the Cavs, in which he has averaged 9.8 points and three rebounds in 24 minutes. In a much larger sample size, Jones has averaged nearly 12 points while doubling Williams’ rebound total this season, while still playing around 24 minutes per night. The Cavaliers are thin up front, so adding Jones is a chance to bolster their roster with another athletic big man, one who could get some easy dunks by being the beneficiary of playing on the same court as LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.

The potential addition of Terrence Jones via a trade does not automatically mean the Cavaliers will part ways with Williams. It will certainly put more pressure on Williams to continue to perform the way he has thus far with the Cavs, but there is a way the team could keep both. If this scenario does happen though, Derrick Williams will likely see a deep drop off in minutes down the stretch of the regular season in an effort to get Jones acclimated to the team.

Don’t forget, Jones had a huge game against the Cavaliers just a month ago when the Pelicans jumped out big and held on to beat Cleveland 124-122. On a night when Irving scored 49 and James had a triple double, it was Terrence Jones 36 points and 11 rebounds that propelled his team to victory. The Cavaliers wouldn’t need that type of production, but Jones would certainly add some depth and versatility to the power forward position.

Nets Drop Asking Price For Brook Lopez

The Brooklyn Nets have dropped their asking price for Brook Lopez ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.

The Nets have been seeking two first round picks in exchange for Lopez, but they now are willing to accept a first round pick and a second round pick.

With the New Orleans Pelicans acquiring DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings for just Buddy Hield, a first round pick and a second round pick from the 76ers, the Nets have seemingly lost leverage in negotiations.

Pelicans Removed Extra First In Offer For DeMarcus Cousins, Fearful Of Him Leaving

The New Orleans Pelicans initially discussed including an additional future first round pick in their trade offer to the Sacramento Kings for DeMarcus Cousins.

New Orleans ultimately feared Cousins could leave in free agency in 2018 and instead offered their own first round pick this year as well as one they had previously acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers. Cousins' agent publicly warned teams about trading for Cousins in the moments leading up to the acquisition.

The Kings found the market for Cousins to be far more tepid than many might have imagined. While Cousins' talent is universally appreciated, many teams didn't want to deal with him regardless of the cost.

The Orlando Magic declined to give up any young players, while the Los Angeles Lakers didn't have draft picks to offer. The Phoenix Suns had no interest in trading Devin Booker and the Boston Celtics never entered the conversation at all.
