Naw like I said it has more of a classic graphic novel feel to it. So it has a more human aspect rather than totally relying on use of powers.
But the most powerful telepath in the world with Alzheimer/dementia, makes for a very engaging sub-plot.
YES IT WAS
I had a grandfather and an uncle that BOTH had dementia and started throwing punches when they had episodes. Uncle Blue was a Marine too, he hid his guns and lost them. Granddad was nice but strong as shit. That was a dangerous ass old man to calm down and it took me and my brother to chill them niggas out.
Just got back. I didn't like it. The movie was uneventful. It was pretty much a goodbye to the fans. The story (based loosely on the Old Man Logan storyline) was drab.
Lots of gore, and action spread out over long drawn out story that at parts stalled and felt like it dragged.
There was no big revelation. Or surprise ending leaving us wanting more....Just wanting it to end. And it did end...Not with a bang but a whimper.
DRAY - I dunno what film you was watching fam. Please watch that shit again and take off your nerd goggles. I had to myself. I didn't compare ANY of that shit to Old Man Logan because theyre hands were tied and they couldn't do the story that way - EVEN if they used Sabertooth in place of the Hulk, it just wouldn't work. Only Logan was based on the character from the book.
Moreover they wanted it to close out the timeline with a shock and not be an alternate story. So it is canon but still on that new timelime. If they want to time jump and change shit again to reboot it and the character in 5 years, they could but this universe hit a cold hard reality that is not too far from our own.
I see a bunch of little kids of all colors running away from badge wearing, gun toting white boys chasing them down before they can cross a border - those scenes fucked with my political mind.
I see how Logan had no reason to keep living except for caring for Xavier after he killed the other X Men and became a danger to, not only himself, but everyone around him, I know this is a bad ass drama. The man that has spent his life trying to protect and care FOR everyone is now a danger TO everyone. That revelation was heart breaking.
The way they locked him in that water tower to "cerebro" his old ass alone was very telling. It also explains that Logan is caring for someone he both loves and hates for what he has done. Like a parent that kills your brothers and sisters on accident. Shit is deep.
I see that a bunch of nobody ass crackers won the war - they came outta nowhere and beat the next in line - the political overtones are right there. They won the war between humanity and mutantkind - that pisses me off. Humans had been fucking them up for years without the mutants even knowing. That plot point was so dirty it was just glossed over because to the bad guys, they were just doing business like a... business deal.
I see the government fuck around with Logan for years and finally get it right. Then THE FEAR AND CONFUSION on his face when the adult version of his own clone comes down the steps with that girl, after he killed Xavier was unforgettable. I also see how Logan ran up the stairs for Xavier and didn't even care that his clone had the other clone. That shit was realistic. He went after him for killing Xavier, not for taking the kid. That shit was deep.
A conclusion in whatever Universe this is. Looking back Wolverine and Prof.X don't share all THAT much screen time together in these movies.
True. These are two people that had a glance of a relationship as teacher and student and after their tragedy, they only had each other left to deal with. That is the point, they had bonded more in those last few years on the run than they EVER had before. Then they die without saving each other and nobody to save them...
I know you trying to make sense of this movie brotha but don't waste your energy
That doesn't make any sense because the clone could have captured Xavier alive along with X-23. If the Doctor was so smart you would think he would want to clone a WMD rather than a grunt in Logan. BTW, I'll play along and say that Logan lost his super sense of smell
.....but X-23 didn't have any super sense of smell or hearing? Shouldn't she have smelled the bad guys outside the barn??
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they were NOT close enough for her to pick up their scent yet. X-24 went ahead of them and had the same scent Logan did so she didn't pick up anything when she was sleep. Xavier didn't either - I'm sure he thought that Logan was killing him - finally putting him out of his misery. These cats were trackers and mercs - they know how to move in silence.
I'll add that this company was government sanctioned. They were breeding soldiers. Nobody wanted to clone the professor - especially not with the extent of his power. How could you ever think to control a living cloned telepath? He would be just as dangerous to the people around him as Xavier was.
On top of that X-24 was programmed only to retrieve X-23, like a terminator. This is why he walked right past Logan when he left.
I said this about the bad guys too:
I see people saying that online but then something occurred to me when I was watching it: Magneto always spoke of the war. They won.
Government bad guys with corporate backing and the science of machined enhancements. They BEAT homo Superior with backdoor tactics.
It wasn't Magneto or Apocalypse or Mister Sinister... it was simply a human being, the son of a scientist that made it his life's work to suppress the mutant X gene. This is something they toyed around with from way back. The Reavers were all suppressed cyborg mutants too. They never needed to use their powers.
Even as the X Men defeated all of these bigger than life foes the very humans they were protecting were secretly fucking them over all along by fucking with our food supply! That reality is beyond brilliant, that is some damn good writing and something that applies to how the government fucks with our food right now. Again I understand the villains were so so but that was EXCATLY the point -
there was nothing special about Donald Pierce and them niggas - they were just henchmen, red shirts willing to die for their cause.
Shit is depressing as hell but it is realistic. This is some Tombstone, Shane, Rambo, Unforgiven, Mad Max type shit all rolled up into a comic book story. And it works.
This is along the lines of Winter Soldier, The Dark Knight and Dredd with its effort.
