So basically this is the last x-men movie? Everyone died (has died) and now they are going to start over with a new set of mutants?

The x-men series timeline is fucking confusing.

Don't try to make sense of these X Men movies.Chronological they are fucked look at this as a "What if" or elseworlds story.

Fox HAS to make X Men movies or they will lose the license to Disney. I think sooner or later they will work out a deal like Spider Man.

The Next X Men movie takes place in the 90s and I guess Mr.Sinister will be the main villian.

I will not pay money to see a movie about X 23

See even the comic twist is good...but on the big screen that sounds dumb.

I'm sure it's the best wolverine movie but the bar is so low is that really saying anything. And out of all the mutants they wanna clone wolverine? If anything clone professor X since I think they did say his mind was a weapon of mass destruction. From what I read the third act of this movie falls off. I got tickets early (7:30) so I don't be in that bitch all night.

If Marvel got the rights they could do a Wolverine netflix series and keep his big screen appearances strictly to the the X men movies

naw they took it one step farther. someone dug up his grave and stole his brain and inserted a portion of it into their head. now he has xavier's powers

Everyone asking why they didn't try to clone Professor X must not remember that they didn't have any DNA from him to use for creating a clone and there wasn't any confirmation on whether he was alive or not til after Pierce met up with Logan & saw for himself. Also when he died, no one knew where the body was buried so they couldn't cultivate any of his genetic material there either.

I know you trying to make sense of this movie brotha but don't waste your energy

That doesn't make any sense because the clone could have captured Xavier alive along with X-23. If the Doctor was so smart you would think he would want to clone a WMD rather than a grunt in Logan. BTW, I'll play along and say that Logan lost his super sense of smell :hmm:.....but X-23 didn't have any super sense of smell or hearing? Shouldn't she have smelled the bad guys outside the barn??

Just got back. I didn't like it. The movie was uneventful. It was pretty much a goodbye to the fans. The story (based loosely on the Old Man Logan storyline) was drab.

Lots of gore, and action spread out over long drawn out story that at parts stalled and felt like it dragged.

There was no big revelation. Or surprise ending leaving us wanting more....Just wanting it to end. And it did end...Not with a bang but a whimper.
Fuckin A
My ass doesn't usually hurt in the movies but I couldn't wait for it to be over...and man did it go on and on and on

I would have fixed the movie like this:

*Don't make Logan weak and sickly. Go back to the Old man Logan story where he's older but "reluctant" to use his abilities because of the past vs. him naturally being that way due to Admantium poisoning (will hit on this later and why)

*Make the Reavers have a reason to hate him: Originally the Reavers were soldiers who one way or another ran across Wolverine at different points and lost limbs or were maimed due to that encounter. So their hate for him had meaning and weight vs. guys who were simply "enhanced". Makes more sense that the enhancement came from a need for revenge.

*At the end of the story have the children get to Eden - THEN - Wolverine die. Older mutants honoring him as he dies as the Legend and Hero he always was. Them not getting to Eden never answers the question was this place Real or Not?

*The BIG BAD sucked ass. Get rid of the "clone of Wolverine" as his nemesis. Instead? Omega Red. Re-write that character as the X-24 and his powers (Like the comic book, weakens Wolverine and poisons him. Every battle brings Wolverine closer to death).

man listen this was an excellent, well acted movie. I love the contrast from the usual, chipper, g-rated marvel films. I think some people wont like the somber, depressing tone of the movie, but we need that from marvel characters. Jackman even said he wanted this to be like Unforgiven and the Wrestler. Keep the tone of those movies in mind and you'll enjoy it.

Movie was a let down. Drab and depressing
What kind of ending were you expecting? I don't know how the old man Logan comic concluded but I didn't expect Logan to make it out alive. Especially with X23 taking his place in the comics. As a comic head and writer what would you like to have seen?

You lost credibility right there fam. The Marvel movies are not G rated and their Netflix series are certainly not.

It was almost absurd how depressing the tone of the movie was. I mean they literally killed everybody except x 23 and friends. The killing was so overdone that I was numb when it was professor x and wolverine's turn.

Omega Red.

That would have gave the reavors more depth.

That was kind of the point that Eden may or may not exist. I like the not so certain future for them, and the Shane speach was perfect.

Omega red would have took away the realism the film was going for.

'Logan' Team Explains Why the Tragic Prof. X Flashback Got Cut

The 'X-Men' film only hints at some of its saddest elements: "I wanted to make a movie less about information and more about character," says director James Mangold.

[Warning: This story contains spoilers for Logan]

For the Logan team, less really was more when it came to revealing its backstory.

Early in the film, it becomes apparent that there was a terrible incident involving Prof. X (Patrick Stewart) back in Westchester, New York — home of the X-Mansion and his school for gifted mutants. As the villain Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) tells Logan (Hugh Jackman), the government classifies Xavier's brain as a weapon of mass destruction. Later, a news broadcast on the radio says that an incident at an Oklahoma casino was similar to one that happened a year ago in Westchester, which injured 600 people and left members of the X-Men dead.

Screenwriter Michael Green says earlier versions of the script included flashbacks that would have spelled out that incident, but the team decided to cut it.

"It actually hits home a lot harder than the versions that really painted out specifically the flashback," Green tells Heat Vision. "Of course there are versions we wrote that were never filmed with the actual flashback of what happened, but I’ve found the experience of watching it is far more poignant to just know that it was something really regrettable and it was bad and most likely, friends were lost. Or maybe it was people we didn't know."

Viewers are left to make their own conclusions, but it seems as though Charles had an incident and ended up accidentally killing some of his own X-Men family.

"Was it Logan? Was it Charles? It was probably Charles but he doesn’t know. He has no memory; he has no recollection," Stewart says. "He has an instinct, an impulse, that something happened and it was bad."

Director James Mangold says the decision to cut the flashback a simple one: "I wanted to make a movie less about information and more about character."

Green recognizes that the ending will certainly prompt plenty of fan theories. (Here's one to throw out: in 2006's Old Man Logan arc, which partially inspired Logan, it was actually Wolverine who ended up killing his X-Men teammates because of a tragic mistake.)

"Nothing will be better than going online and reading fan theories about what happened at the end because I want to hear that version," says Green. "I know what I think happened, I even know what did happen, but it doesn’t matter, because what’s canonized here is the emotional effect of things."

Green says there are no plans to officially reveal the hidden backstory, but he does have one request for the fans: "I would love one day to read a beautifully drawn comic where someone actually writes out something."

clearly charles developed a neurological disorder [as was mentioned in the film] and his 'seizures' killed off most, if not all of the x-men. wolverine survived b/c his healing factor was resistant to the paralysis caused by his seizures [also mentioned in the movie] and put an end to the episode through sedating charles, and moving him into the metal watertower [which was thick enough to help shield everyone from charles' powers] before authorities moved in.

wolverine movies = a string of bad ones topped by an extremely sad one.
not my favorite spinoff franchise.
wolverine works best when he is the renegade in the x-men team. solo, not so much.

also, based on the plotline's destruction of mutants, doesnt this mean magneto was right?

Fox gonna ride this wave

‘Logan,’ ‘Deadpool’ and Why the World Is Ready for an R-Rated X-Men Film

Comic book movies aren’t just for kids.

Logan,” the blood-drenched final chapter in the Wolverine saga, demonstrates that superhero films don’t have to be sanitized to succeed. Like “Deadpool” before it, the blockbuster differentiated itself from the flood of films about costumed heroes by embracing a hard R-rating. It’s no accident that Fox produced both movies. The studio, which licenses the rights to X-Men characters like Wolverine and Deadpool, seems intent on carving out a niche for itself by making grittier, tougher comic book fare that’s in stark contrast to Disney’s sunnier “Avengers” series.

“Fox needs to be bold and continue to blaze this trail,” said Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations. “I think the world is now ready for an R-rated X-Men film.”

So far, the strategy is working. “Logan” debuted to a massive $237.8 million globally and “Deadpool” ended its run with nearly $800 million worldwide.

“We have a clear direction and audiences are responding to it,” said Chris Aronson, Fox’s domestic distribution chief.

In an interview with Variety’s Kristopher Tapley last week, director and co-writer James Mangold said that he made a pact with Hugh Jackman, the franchise’s star, to lean into the character’s dark side. Logan is a former mercenary who has left a trail of blood in his wake. Like William Munny in Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven,” he is haunted by the lives he snuffed out.

“You’re just looking for a way, and I think the studios are too, to just shake things up because everyone feels that there’s a certain amount of exhaustion setting in,” said Mangold, adding, “We can’t keep doing the same movie over and over again.”

Mangold speculated that the world is ready for stories that have more gravity. Unlike “Deadpool,” which plays at time like a parody of the spandex genre, “Logan” is deadly serious. Like “Shane” or “Pale Rider,” it works as both an adventure film and a meditation on guilt and regret. In his talk with Tapley, Mangold argued that after an election that saw Donald Trump upend conventional wisdom by capturing the White House, the entertainment business must find ways to better reflect the chaotic current political climate.

“There was a convulsion on all levels,” Mangold said. Indeed, “Logan,” with its high body count and post-apocalyptic vibe, stands in stark contrast with the cultural moment — as the film was playing to full houses, Trump was at his most rococo, tweeting allegations about wire-tapping and taking swipes at Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Apprentice” run.

In the late 1960’s, studios turned away from splashy musicals and biblical epics to concentrate on more character-driven films. Movies like “Bonnie & Clyde” and “The Wild Bunch” spoke to younger audiences who felt politically disenchanted. These ballets of bullets updated the crime film and the western, while speaking to people turned off by the war in Vietnam.

Even with protests sweeping the country, it might be unrealistic to expect that there will be many more films that use populist genres to make larger artistic statements or score political points. “Logan” or “Get Out,” a thriller about race relations, are commercially successful while being creatively bold, but there are financial reasons why they will remain anomalies. Most comic book movies boast budgets that are north of $150 million. They inspire toylines, adorn happy meals, and launch theme park rides. That kind of merchandising is where the real money is made. “Logan’s” violence may delight audiences and may tap into the zeitgeist, but images of Wolverine vivisecting bad guys won’t be appearing on lunch boxes any time soon.

Still, at a time when nearly every major studio is in the superhero game, Fox has made a wise bet by crafting comic book movies for audiences that can legally drink. Box office analysts think that other studios such as Warner Bros. should take note. They believe that “Suicide Squad” or the upcoming Batman standalone film might benefit from more carnage. At the very least, Warner Bros. could try releasing both PG-13 and R-rated versions.

“It’s all about continuing to move the genre forward and be more malleable,” said Bock. “You can’t pitch the same PG-13 movies over and over or they will become stale.”

Ultimately, there’s no surefire formula. Directors can’t just ratchet up the violence and sprinkle in a few choice four-letter words and expect audiences to turn up for the latest comic book movie. Both “Deadpool” and “Logan” also benefited from strong reviews.

“An R-rating is a huge differentiator, but you still have to make a good movie,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst with ComScore.

All too often, it’s that last ingredient that’s left out.

Future X-MEN Movies Will Move On From Professor X/Magneto Dynamic; SUPERNOVA Title Details

The producers of the X-Men franchise have shed some light on what's next for the franchise while also revealing whether or not the next instalment will hold that Supernova subtitle...
Phoenix.png

The relationship between Professor X and Magneto has pretty much been the focal point of six X-Menmovies now and with so much time spent on that in the prequels, it's fair to say the franchise needs to move on. Thankfully, that looks set to the case as the focus is shifted to the likes of Cyclops and Jean Grey following their introduction in X-Men: Apocalypse last year.

"We cannot, once again, explore the Erik/Charles dynamic," X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner told Vanity Fair in a recent interview, adding that the shift is "both liberating and makes me nervous." It definitely sounds like big changes are coming then, and while she was quick to point out that while the duo will always be "essential" to this world, "there are other stories to tell."

As of right now, it's thought that Simon Kinberg will be taking the helm of X-Men: Supernova, but in a separate interview with Slash Film, he explained that's not a name which is set in stone.

"One of the things we do when we make these X-Men movies, to be totally candid, is — any of these movies, it’s on ‘Star Wars,’ too — is you come up with fake names to throw people off the scent and when you’re out making the movie, the signs that show you where the locations are say ‘Nova,’ or whatever the fake title is, and people figure it out, and I don’t even know why we do it anymore."

It may be a fake title, but Kinberg went on to indicate that the movie will indeed adapt The Dark Phoenix Saga, something which hopefully means the X-Men will finally head into outer space for a full on cosmic adventure. Time will tell but expect more details on the movie to be revealed soon.

This movie was good I'll buy a hard copy when it comes to Blu-ray. The only thing I didn't like about the X-Men movies not enough saber tooth vs wolverine.

I loved it. I personally enjoyed a more realistic, gritty film. No corny one liners while fighting. No gratuitous explosions. Just two characters we've grown accustomed to over the last 17 years ending their stories.

I actually cared about these characters in the movie. I'll definitely see it again.

It's not really a comic book movie. It kind of reminds me of when the Dark Knight came out. People that wanted a straight up comic book movie didn't like it.

needs to be the last xmen movie ever

Yea they need a reboot bad.

The Last Stand made me really not care about these characters as much as I should.

I felt more concerned when I though Lego Alfred was gonna die in Lego Batman.....

And you niggas comparing this to the Dark Knight should be ashamed of yourselves
