There's a great thread on bigsoccer.com about the channel and it's potential US carriers if anyone wants more insight regarding it.

http://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/bein-sport-usa-speculation-thread.1947165/page-50

Apprecitate the links. Guess now it's just a waiting game to see which cable/satellite providers will carry this channel. I'm almost resigned to not watching any LaLiga/SerieA matches this season as i'm with Comcast and don't have much faith in them adding this channel. I can just pray that Fox/ESPN retain EPL rights (2013-16), but I won't be holding my breath. Guess I should just be thankful that Comcast finally added FSC and GolTV (although devalued now) in HD.

Fuck. No more Ray Hudson for La Liga/Serie A matches? That's just wrong.

And an Al-Jazeera network having broadcast rights in the US is surely going to help push the sport here in this political climate. :hmm:

New feature coming titled '50 Shades of Ray': send in your questions and every few days our very own Ray Hudson will answer a chosen one!

This is what Gol Tv has left:

The only major European league GolTV now has left is the German Bundesliga, with which they have a contract through 2015.

GolTV still has rights to the leagues in Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay, as well as exclusive rights to Boca Juniors and River Plate games.

Thanks, I'd read that he'd left GolTV but no confirmation of where he had moved on to...at this point Ray and Phil Schoen are like and old married couple.

Busquets talks up Song quality

alexsong2011afc_275x155.jpg

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets says he would welcome a move for Arsenal's Alex Song by the Catalan club.

Seydou Keita's departure for Chinese club Dalian Aerbin earlier this summer has left a gap in Barca's midfield, and Busquets believes Song, whose contract at Arsenal expires in 2014, could provide healthy competition for places.

"Song is a very good player - young, a hard worker, with lots of physical power," Busquets said. "[Barca B youngster] Sergi Roberto is very well prepared, but I think he is better as an internal option.

"Barca lose a lot without Keita, both on and off the pitch. He was a much-loved player who gave us a lot of physical power. Another player in my position would be welcome, but either way I will keep working hard to win a place in the starting team."

Busquets, back at training this week after helping Spain to victory in Euro 2012, said the transition of head coach from Pep Guardiola to Tito Vilanova had so far been seamless.

"Until now it has been the same, we have had four days training and they could have been four days when Pep was there," he said. "The physical coaches are taking training - there is no difference."

Barca's squad will be joined at training on Friday by Jordi Alba, Cristian Tello and Martin Montoya, who have returned sooner than expected from the London 2012 Olympics.

Busquets said Spain's struggles at the Games - no goals and just one point from three group games - showed how difficult tournament football could be.

"It is very difficult to win. They are a good team, but small details decided the first two games," he said. "In such short tournaments, you cannot let those things happen."

Barcelona's pre-season preparation continues this Saturday with a glamour friendly against big-spending Paris St-Germain. Busquets said he expected the Ligue 1 team to be a threat to Europe's big clubs in the coming season.

"Their new players like [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Thiago [Silva] will need to settle in, but player for player they are a team to take into account for the Champions League," he added.

Arsenal seal Cazorla swoop

Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla has signed for Arsenal and joined up with the pre-season training camp in Germany after completing a £15 million move from Malaga.

• Santi Cazorla profile
• Transfer blog

The Spanish club's financial problems initially delayed the deal being finalised but he is now on course to make his Arsenal debut in Sunday's friendly against Cologne after the announcement was made.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "Santi Cazorla is a great signing for us. He is a player with good experience at both club and international level, who will add significant quality to our squad.

"He is a versatile, attacking midfield player who can play comfortably on either side of the pitch or centrally. He has good pace, is technically gifted and will be a huge asset to Arsenal Football Club. We are delighted that he is joining us."

Cazorla, who was voted Spanish Player of the Year in 2007, said: "I'm so happy to be joining Arsenal. This is a club with great players, a fantastic stadium and huge support. The club has one of the best managers in football and their style of play is recognised and admired all over the world."

Seven years have passed since Arsenal lifted any silverware, but Cazorla believes fortunes will change following a flurry of transfer activity in north London that has seen Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud join the club.

"There's a very good squad here and we want to fight for titles and win titles,'' Cazorla said. "The club has made a big step to sign players to have a better team and meet the expectations of the fans. I'm very happy to be here, Arsenal are a huge club. I hope to win trophies here, that is what I want.''

Cazorla joined Malaga just 12 months ago for €19 million, and the playmaker's performances in guiding the club to fourth spot in La Liga and a Champions League qualifying position should have increased his value even further.

However, last week Malaga released a statement via the club website claiming that a period of "internal financial restructuring" was required to meet UEFA's incoming Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning Cazorla is available at a cut-price.

Cazorla could soon be joined at the Emirates by another La Liga-based midfielder, with Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin seemingly set to arrive on loan for the 2012-13 season. Jose Mourinho has said the Turkey international is free to leave the Bernabeu.

Well how about that, the Beancounter has actually been spending some money. That's a heck of a thing, to have to spend all those millions just to pacify RVP.

beIN SPORT Acquires US Rights to League Cup and Football League Championship

bein-sport-600x335.png

Up until this week, the forthcoming launch of the new soccer channel beIN SPORT had little relevance to die-hard followers of English football in the United States. All that has changed this week with the news that beIN SPORT has acquired the TV and Internet rights to England’s League Cup tournament as well as Football League Championship.

Beginning with the 2012-13 season, beIN SPORT 1 will broadcast matches from England’s League Cup tournament, now known as the Capital One Cup after the new sponsor replaced Carling. Plus, beIN SPORT 1 will show matches from the nPower Championship, the second division in English football and one of the most competitive and entertaining leagues in Europe.

FOX Soccer previously held the rights to both the League Cup and Championship, but beIN SPORT beat the incumbent to the punch.

beIN SPORT is scheduled to launch in the United States on August 15. Based in Miami, the new soccer network will have two channels — beIN SPORT 1 (for English-language broadcasts) and beIN SPORT 2 (for Spanish-language broadcasts). The challenge, however, will be for the network to sign deals with TV providers between now and the launch date to ensure that soccer fans can watch the TV network in the United States.

Executive Antonio Briceno, an executive at Imagina US — the company that’s handling distribution for beIN SPORT, was asked this week when the beIN SPORT would be available via TV providers in the United States. ”Nothing is absolute until it is put to paper, but we continue to negotiate. We’re 99% sure there will be at least one distributor at launch, and two continues to be the goal. And we expect more over time.”

Historically, sports networks in the United States have often sublicensed rights to different leagues, even to competitors. However, in the Multichannel News article, Briceno said the “marching orders” remained the same relative to beIn Sport’s plans “not to sublicense any of the rights to the three major league properties.” He said there might be some flexibility with the additional rights that have been acquired.

While beIN SPORT has been busy negotiating with TV distributors, the soccer network recently hired two familiar soccer aficionados — commentators Phil Schoen and Ray Hudson.

In addition to coverage of the League Cup and Championship, beIN SPORT has acquired the US rights to several major soccer leagues including La Liga, Serie A, Ligue Un, Copa del Rey, Copa Italia, Supercoppa Italia, Copa America, South American World Cup qualifiers, Spain’s second division, Barca TV and Real Madrid TV.

In the article that was published by Multichannel News this week, the publication stated that “Although beIN Sports’ game plan still calls to stream channels to authenticated subscribers, the services will not be available at launch.”

For fans of the Championship, the new season kicks off on Friday, August 17. Round 1 of the Capital One Cup, meanwhile, begins on August 11. However, Premier League clubs don’t participate until Round 2 of the cup competition (the draw for which is scheduled on August 15). The second round matches are typically played in late August.

Speaking of the Premier League, beIN SPORT is expected to participate in the bidding for the US rights to the Premier League for the 2013-2016 seasons when bidding is finalized this autumn.

With time running out before the upcoming new season begins, now is the time for soccer fans — like you — to demand that your TV distributor adds beIN SPORT to your channel guide. The only way to move the needle and get beIN SPORT added sooner is by encouraging your TV provider by phone or Twitter to add the network.

Here are the contact details for the different TV providers, listed on the beIN SPORT USA website.

Let's put one million leagues on one channel :smh::hmm::angry:

Hearing murmurs that DirectTV has reached an agreement with BeIn Sports, and are currently testing the channel (whatever that may mean). Praying that Comcast follows suit and adds them as well, but i'm pretty much resigned to seeing no LaLiga/SerieA matches this season, as I won't be switching cable providers. I'm just going to think optimistically and hope that Comcast doesn't take as long to add this channel as they did to add FSC in HD...but the pessimist in me see's them ironically adding a basically now defunct FSC+ channel instead. Unfortunate that my weekends will no longer be filled w/as much futball on the television as they were last season. Praying that the EPL rights for 2013-16 are retained by FSC.

Fergie: Paying €45m for Lucas is crazy

siralexfergusonpre-seasonlaugh20120803_275x155.jpg

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed Paris Saint Germain's decision to shell out €45million on Lucas Moura suggests the "game's gone mad".

• Carrick may play in defence
• Ferguson hopeful over Van Persie
• Barca beat Man Utd in friendly
• PSG confirm Lucas capture
• Transfer Blog: On the Move

United had looked in pole position to land one of the brightest stars in Brazilian football, but they were trumped by a huge offer from cash-rich PSG that persuaded Sao Paulo to sell.

The arrival of Lucas will take the Ligue 1 club's spending this summer well over the £100 million mark, with Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also brought in for huge fees, and Ferguson has suggested there is no way United can compete until UEFA steps in.

"I find it quite amazing that a club can pay €45 million for a 19-year-old boy," Ferguson said. "To make a mark on everyone - to tell everyone that PSG are here - they've signed Thiago Silva from Milan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

"They must have spent about €150 million in the last month. As you know, the only deterrent to that is UEFA. "When somebody's paying €45 million for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad."

Rooney: RVP would be 'great addition'

robinvanpersietraining_275x155.jpg

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney believes that Robin van Persie would be a "great addition to the squad" if a deal can be reached this summer.

Van Persie, 29, has been heavily linked with a £20 million move to Manchester United over the past few days, with just one-year remaining on his current Arsenal contract.

With Manchester City and Juventus seemingly already out of the running, it appears that should Van Persie leave Emirates Stadium this summer, Old Trafford will be his eventual destination.

Rooney was quick to praise his potential strike-partner, adding that he considers the Dutchman to be a "fantastic player"

"Of course he's a player that I admire," Rooney told the Daily Mirror. "He's a fantastic player, he's been amazing for Arsenal over many years. Last season was probably his best season of all, he scored a lot of goals. If he does come here he would be a great addition to the squad."

Asked whether he could play in tandem with Van Persie, Rooney added: "I'd like to think so - but you'd have to ask the manager about that. There's a lot of forwards here already with myself, [Danny] Welbeck, Chicharito and [Dimitar] Berba, who's still here. So there's a lot of forwards fighting for a place."

City claim Community Shield

mancitycelebshield20110812_576x324.jpg

After the joy and wonder of an Olympic fortnight that will never be forgotten, English football delivered a fiesty opening to the new season as Manchester City came from behind to beat 10-man Chelsea at Villa Park.

Second-half goals from Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri gave the Premier League champions their first Shield triumph since 1972.

Amid a succession of niggly tackles, eight yellow cards and a straight red for Branislav Ivanovic Chelsea lost out, despite Fernando Torres and Ryan Bertrand scoring the first and last goals. Referee Kevin Friend struggled to keep control almost from the first whistle.

Stefan Savic was booked after 10 minutes, which set the scene for a niggly opening period in which both sides were guilty of going too far at times. Ivanovic was the worst offender. Forced to challenge for a stray John Terry pass, the Serbian slid straight into countryman Aleksandar Kolarov, studs raised.

It was not two-footed, but it was dangerous. And though Chelsea protested, Friend was justified in dismissing Ivanovic, who must now miss next week's trip to Wigan, plus home encounters with Reading and Newcastle.

Earlier, David Luiz had been cautioned followed by Frank Lampard, and in the immediate aftermath of Ivanovic's exit, John Obi Mikel.

In addition, Savic raised an eyebrow when he flattened Torres in an incident Friend chose to see as a free-kick in favour of the Montenegro defender when it was not inconceivable the decision would go the other way, with dire consequences. It amounted to some introduction into English football for one-time City target Eden Hazard.

There are immediate comparisons to be made between Hazard and former Blues favourite Joe Cole in both appearance and running style. The Belgian evidently has plenty of guts too.

Targeted by the City faithful over his summer snub, Hazard had the character to respond when he attempted a back-heel at full speed and met only with a comical fall headlong into the turf, having got his manoeuvre badly wrong.

Hazard was a bystander when Chelsea got their opener. Ramires created it, nipping past Pablo Zabaleta before surging into the box and flicking an astute pass past Hazard to Torres on his right. The £50 million man showed signs last season of starting to find his old form and, with Didier Drogba embarking on his new life in China, manager Roberto di Matteo needs Torres to justify that massive price tag.

Today's contribution was clinical, beating the advancing Costel Pantilimon with the predatory instinct of old. Pantilimon had been given a rare start due to Joe Hart's back injury and having been the least busy of the two keepers, probably felt hard done by.

Carlos Tevez, Samir Nasri and skipper Vincent Kompany had all gone close for the Premier League champions. As so often on showpiece occasions, though, Toure was the man who did the damage. Seizing on John Terry's poor clearance, the midfielder drilled a fierce shot straight back through a crowd of bodies, giving Petr Cech no chance of keeping it out.

Now City had the momentum with them and made their extra man tell. Six minutes later, neither Luiz nor Terry were able to check Tevez's darting run along the edge of the penalty area.

From a central position, Tevez belted a superb shot into the top corner to put the champions ahead. Six minutes after that, City scored again as Kolarov streaked past makeshift right-back Ramires and curled a cross to the near post which Nasri touched home.

If Ramires had not managed to steer James Milner's cross over the bar, an unmarked Tevez would have had a tap-in as a rampant City poured forward. Yet it was Chelsea who scored 10 minutes from time, through substitute Bertrand, who promptly became involved in a spat with Pantilimon as he tried to wrestle the ball away to restart the game.

City came closer to grabbing a fourth than Chelsea an equaliser though, as Sergio Aguero somehow managed to turn Milner's cross wide in the final minute when it seemed easier to score. The five goals did amount to decent entertainment. As Ramires got away with a cynical bodycheck on David Silva that should have brought a second yellow, it reminded that the behaviour just reinforced old stereotypes football needs to shed.

Thanks to those whom have already signed up. One week to go we can use a few more participants, thanks in advance

Yes, season starts Saturday so let's get this going. Trying to get out of that 4th place Champions League spot and win the league this yr.

Don't know about this new channel but I think I'll be streaming matches off the computer again this yr. Not that big of a deal to be honest, able to find pretty good streams last season.
