This the way of the sports world in my opinion. Reminds me of how the elite QB’s in football are constantly “one-upping” their contracts and haven’t won a ring. We all know that Tatum will have the “richest deal in NBA history” next year and then whoever the next Superstar who is eligible will beat out Tatum. But they are just going to be too heavy with no money to improve the overall team.
But like Teague said, most players would rather have the “richest deal in NBA” history than a title. Nothing wrong with that from their standpoint but as a fan who reaps no benefits from seeing these dudes get paid, I’d be upset if all the money is tied up on dudes that will never win anything together.
Didn’t seem like they much of a choice. Either pay em or lose him for nothing. I know they didn’t want to.
But it’s amazing to see an actual wealth gap in the NBA among players.
