***Official 2018 FIFA World Cup Thread***

What are your picks?

I got France v Portugal, Mexico(cause I believe) v Belgium

Spain v Croatia, England v Sweden.
I have Argentina and Portugal squaring up for headlines around the world.

I have a strange feeling Mexico are gonna do something. Whoever scores first in that game will take it.

France or Belgium will go to finals. Whoever gets there will win it all.
Which means the winner will come from that side of the bracket but it is not Brazil time yet

The World Cup looks pretty much the same every time

Round of 16

AFC 1/5
CAF 0/0
CONCACAF 1/3
CONMEBOL 4/5
UEFA 10/14

OFC None qualified for the turnament (Peru beat New Zealand on aggregate 0-2)

Fair play lololololol

1st in history of the shit to be out cause them niggas got more yellow cards for.... Well you know why they got them
I get folks find fair play stupid, and for the most part it is, but let's not overlook the glaring fact that Senegal couldn't secure 6 PTS over 270 mins of football. We knew them CAC's were gonna find some way to keep us from advancing just like they always do, but that's why we needed to take care of business early and often so they couldn't deny us.

Cisse claims "they just weren't good enough to advance...." which holds some merit, but I felt they dazzled in good spots just never capitalized.

Sucks.

They were good enough
He just made some dumbass decisions
3 matches and he didn't have a true 9 on the field until the last few min of the last match
Didnt start his most talented players until game 3
The only striker capable of hold up play (which they clearly lacked) didn't even see the the pitch
African managers be pissing me off

Yeah but Fair play system is stupid. Because now that means the refs will have even more influence of who is going to the next round.

The reason why this is tupid is because every country has their own standards. Like for example England refs let a lot go.

So now you basically have to bring the Refs around the world to one level .this is a foul and this isn't.

Either that or every game has to be watch 2 times. for example the next day with VAR to see if the ref didn't make a mistake . Or else teams are going to be cheated .

Yea I don't get the logic behind the omissions. Trying to do the most with least early on only brought an exit.

Not smart.

Oh yea. The shit is absolutely stupid. The physical teams are more inclined to exit now in the event of a tie, while the technical teams are given all the chances in the world. And this is no disrespect to Japan cause they had some matches, but idk if they were THAT worthy of going before Senegal.

Would it be stupid if Senegal was the beneficiary?

The fact that it is the first it was used it is the least thing to complain about.
Once again African teams has deteriorate so bad that a fair play system get them knocked out. :smh:

Bro i just gave you an example why this system is not a good idea. And you bring up the fact that because it wasn't Beneficial for Senegal that's why I have a problem with it.

How are you going to have a fair play system when the refs don't even have the same standards?

In England and France it's more physical so they won't give you cards as fast as Refs from other leagues. Let alone south America and Africa.

So let me break it down again.
If you have Ref A from England that is Refereeing Barcelona - PSG but because he is used to more physical play he doesn't really hand out cards.

But then you have Ref B who is from the Swedish league and he isn't really used to physical games and he gives everybody a card. How is this fair?

The fact that you have 2 Refs who don't have the same standards means that the game is already being influence. Regardless how a team plays that is just not fair.

Shit I watch this game since I was a baby and there are only a few times where 2 people can agree that something is a card or not. Excluding the really bad ones of course.

Not to mention if the game becomes chippy and cards come out to cool things down. Any team, any time is capable of getting drawn into a rough game. So now they're penalized later by the fair play rule.

But, wait. Turns out team x wanted to get team y into that sort of game so team z could advance.

The possibilities for corruption are staggering outside of the obvious referee bias.

And we already know FIFA ain't the most corruption-free organization in the world.

There is no other alternative that would be fairer.

Right, with thisbullshit they can control who goes to next. Round and not

There are a lot. Penalty shootout, result between teams, extra time etc etc.

Also like i said earlier they can use this fair play system but then every match has to be Double checked and make sure there are no mistakes. Then i wouldn't mind.

4 years ago ppl was crowning Messi as all-time great but what most of those ppl don't know is that Messi hasn't score a goal in the knockout stage in 3 WC appearances.

Ronaldo is in the same category.
Let's see if that will change this time around.
