No shit Orlando

Magic may wait on Howard deal

http://m.espn.go.com/nba/story?storyId=8193410

I think this looks good for the Nets...Orlando should be receptive to that trade for Brooks + whoever later in the season...if it happens I'm assuming like Deron...Dwight will sign w/ us @ the end of the year :dunno:

The Orlando Magic have told rival executives that they might not trade Dwight Howard after all, according to league sources.

An executive who has had discussions with the Magic regarding Howard said Orlando only will trade the star center in a deal that is great for the franchise. The executive said this has been Orlando's stance for the past "week or so."

Another executive who has talked with Orlando said he thinks the Magic may start the season with Howard and wait until the February trade deadline to move him.

Each executive left the door open for posturing, noting that the Magic may be bluffing in hopes of coaxing better offers out of opposing teams. But the overriding sense is that Howard may not be moved for weeks, if not months.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets both covet Howard, but each team has come away from trade discussions thinking the Magic -- at least for now -- are not interested in trading the six-time All-Star, according to sources.

Howard has been steadfast in his desire to be traded since the end of last season, telling new Magic general manager Rob Hennigan last month in their first face-to-face meeting that he wanted to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

But with Howard under contract for next season, the only firm deadline Orlando faces is next season's trade deadline.

While the angst between the Magic and Howard is real and sizable, the franchise also realizes that Howard is fickle, impressionable and prone to changing his mind.

When Howard first requested a trade to the Nets this past December, it seemed unfathomable that he would waive his opt-out clause. But that's exactly what he did in March.

So with a new front office and soon a new head coach -- widely expected to be Jacque Vaughn -- the Magic may believe Howard could change his mind again before next season's trade deadline.

If the Magic start the season with Howard, his preferred destination of Brooklyn once again becomes a possible landing spot. The Nets recently signed center Brook Lopez, who would presumably be the centerpiece of a Brooklyn-Orlando trade for Howard. Lopez is not eligible to be traded until Jan. 15, a full month before the trade deadline.

So if Howard doesn't sign a contract extension with Orlando before the deadline -- and if the Lakers or Rockets haven't been able to acquire him by then -- the Nets would perhaps emerge as the front-runner once again.

Then again, Orlando may also be banking on the fact that neither the Nets nor the Lakers, whom Howard has told confidantes he would sign with long term, will have the salary-cap room to sign him outright to a max deal next summer when he becomes a free agent.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Magic To Make Another Pitch To Dwight Howard

Despite all of the reports of Dwight Howard‘s imminent departure, the Orlando Magic still believe they can convince Howard to stay with the team long term.

Howard’s displeasure with the organization is obvious but the Magic believe that with a new general manager, front office staff and a new head coach, they can change his mind.

Per Alex Kennedy of Hoops World, Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and his staff will fly to Los Angeles to visit Howard in the coming days. Kennedy says “Hennigan is determined to fix the strained relationship between the player and the organization, and he’s hopeful that Howard will resume his career in Orlando.”

Kennedy adds that Orlando’s next coach, who most believe to be current San Antonio Spurs assistant Jacque Vaughn, will likely travel with Hennigan to meet with Howard, who has “has agreed to meet” with the team.

The Magic will then present a plan to Howard. Kennedy says “sources within the organization are optimistic that they can change his stance with this pitch.”

Rockets to get Asik as Bulls say they won’t match

The Rockets won’t have to wait for a late night call to know they have landed their center today. The Bulls told representatives of Omer Asik that they will not match the Rockets’ offer sheet, a person with knowledge of the process said.

The Bulls prepared to move on by reaching an agreement with Oklahoma City free agent Nazr Mohammad on Saturday. Though they have not yet made an announcement, they told Asik’s representatives of their plans in advance of tonight’s deadline. An announcement could come at a press conference today to introduce guard Kirk Hinrich.

The Rockets had made Asik among their top free agent targets, meeting with him in Los Angeles at the first moment contact was permitted. He will sign a three-year, $25.1 million contract. It will count $8.36 million each season toward the Rockets’ salary cap.

An elite defensive center both in pick-and-roll and at the rim, Asik averaged 3.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 14.7 minutes per game last season.

Chicago Bulls Offseason Moves & Analysis

By Chris Bernucca
July 24, 2012 at 11:05 AM
UNDER CONTRACT: G Derrick Rose, F Carlos Boozer, F Luol Deng, C Joakim Noah, G Richard Hamilton, F Taj Gibson, G Jimmy Butler, F Vladimir Radmanovic, C Nazr Mohammed, G Marco Belinelli

DRAFT PICKS: G Marquis Teague

FREE AGENTS: G-F Ronnie Brewer, G Mike James, G John Lucas, F Brian Scalabrine

MOVES: For the first time in franchise history, the Bulls are going to have to pay the luxury tax – and really don’t have much to show for it. GM Gar Forman refused to match the three-year, $25 million offer sheet Houston gave Omer Asik because he will receive $14.1 million in the final season of the deal. That’s 2014-15, when the Bulls already will have roughly $50 million committed to Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. But Asik isn’t the only member of the “Bench Mob” that won’t be back. Kyle Korver was dealt to Atlanta for cash and a $5 million trade exception. Ronnie Brewer’s option of $4.37 million was not picked up. C.J. Watson also was waived and signed with Brooklyn. And Chicago has shown no interest in bringing back John Lucas or Mike James, which means all of the point guards who filled in admirably when Rose was hurt last season are gone. Rose’s torn ACL will keep him out until January at the earliest, and his new caddies are Kirk Hinrich, the former Bull who was re-signed for $6 million over two years through the mini-mid-level exception, and rookie Marquis Teague. Forman did try to rebuild his bench on the cheap, nabbing Nazr Mohammed on a veterans’ minimum deal to replace Asik and adding range shooting by signing Vladimir Radmanovic to a one-year veteran deal and Marco Belinelli for $1.9 million through the bi-annual exception. Neither Radmanovic nor Belinelli are stalwart defenders; on offense, they are only effective playing off double-teams or dribble penetration. Without Rose, the Bulls don’t have anyone who commands a double-team or can easily get inside a defense.

TO-DO LIST: Not matching on Asik was somewhat of a surprise but allows Forman to keep in place a long-term plan. Reserve forward Taj Gibson – who often plays ahead of Boozer in crunch time – is due for an extension next summer, when Richard Hamilton’s contract comes off the books. Forman can then reload in the summer of 2014, when Luol Deng’s contract expires. At that time, he can also use the amnesty clause on Boozer and have enough room to sign a free agent to a maximum contract to play alongside Rose, Gibson, Noah and perhaps a re-signed Deng. For next season’s roster, the Bulls also are considering signing forward Malcolm Thomas, who lit up the summer league, and Chicago native Patrick Beverley, who worked out with the team but did not play in the summer league. Veteran free agents the Bulls have looked at include Jonny Flynn and Donte Greene.

PROJECTION: The Bulls will look different next season, and not just because Hinrich is running the offense until Rose returns. Asik, Watson, Brewer, Korver and Lucas all were rotation players last season. That is a huge turnover for a team that has had the NBA’s best record in each of the last two years. Chicago will fall from the 60-win stratosphere. The Bulls are going to take a step back – at least in the regular season – and it could be far enough to fall behind Indiana in the Central Division.

THIS IS ALL PART OF DWIGHT PLAN!!!!

He will feed the magic false hope again. THEN WILL DEMAND A TRADE AGAIN!!!!!!

WHAT THE FUCK ARE THE MAGIC DOING???? HE IS GOING TO ACT A ASS AGAIN UNTIL THEY MOVE HIM.

FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Now the nets have distraction. FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

Trade him to LA. ORLANDO IS A FUCKING JOKE!!! Convince him to stay you just let go of Ryan Anderson. Your team is too over the cap to sign shit. YOU SUCK!!!!! Trade Dwight to the Lakers. Be done with it.

Dwight is going to work with them. He will be a good soldier until the trade deadline come then we will have the

"Dwight demands to be traded to Brooklyn!!" ORLANDO THINK!!!!!!!!!!

HE IS PLAY GAMES. MOVE HIM NOW!!! They are going to deal with this shit again???

Orlando is a joke

exactly then again that was with rose. the bulls will likely be without him for a year. Rip will be a year older and his strengths may no longer fit with the "new" Rose

right i think the new rose should be the two, plus Rip didn't stay healthy neither

not a bad pick up for the Knicks. Long as Brewer leaves that bullshit in Chi and worry about contributing and not playing time.

The knicks will likely start him since the Bench will need JR's scoring. Add in that Shump probably won't be back at a high level until the playoffs and he will get playing time.

The knicks have built a smart defensive team around Stat and Melo. Also Brewer is an upgrade over fields because he can at least play defense.

yea i like this pick up also, kinda address the sg spot....

i guess they can do sign and trade to help Dwight get the most money and get some assets back.

it might also help them land Bynum if he wants to go to Orlando.

it helps neither the cba has changed sign and trades doesn't change how much money he can make,

Bynum would make more money staying in LA as would Dwight in orlando.

If Orlando is waiting for the summer all this means that Dwight can force his way to the nets and Magic will have one last chance to dump their bad contracts.

since this has been announce the last two hours everyone is saying if this is true dwight will be a net.

Dwight likely told Orlando some more bullshit
