***Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread***

are u serious Bruh....

I'm heartbroken just like all my other Ghanaians but that's a bit much....
It was a joke. Sorry. I was mad. I'm cool now.

And this is my gripe with a majority of African teams. Mensah looked visibly shook, Gyan speaks for himself.

Keep your cool.
DJ, come on man. It has nothing to do with the nationality. It's about the TEAM. I kind of get where you're coming from with the correlation of lack of discipline with African teams but you have to consider the fact that many African teams in the past lacked the personel and grooming that other European teams had the advantage of. But in recent times things have changed. I doubt that you'd make the same correlation with S. American teams with all the choke jobs and nut ups between Brazil and Argentina alone.

Countries and teams from all over the world choke equally. As much as you might not wana hear this but that subtle white superiority complex can be unconscious at times. Not saying that's you but i'm just saying. Let's keep it 100.

They not tryna hear this homey, but I hope dude is alright after this one.

Very sad indeed. :smh:

Im not saying that he "choked" because he was African. Im saying he had a lapse of concentration on a massive stage like Terry, Ronaldo, et al. I don't think ethnicity plays a role.

I can agree with this. It's just the lack of discipline that gets me man.

The true reason I gripe about it is because I think African teams could be something in special in the world. And I mean that with everything I got.

The skill, pace, flair, and imagination is all there. There's something special in Africa, but without the composure to finish and see these games through, they fail to progress when it counts. It just seems to be a reoccurring thing with many african teams, and I can't put a finger on it except for the mentality that these teams display at the death.

Sorry fellas, I need to re-check the way i'm speaking, cause i'm coming off as "that guy."

Far from.

My apologies.

You're right. This shit keeps happening. But hey, in all fairness the rest of the world, especially Europe had a pretty good head start on African teams (at least West African) in terms of the infrastructure for developing technical skills. I know it's tempting to connect it with ethnicity ...shit sometimes I catch myself doing that. Plus, the political shit that goes on with many African teams doesn't help either.:smh:
Africa is gonna get there though. We're now a serious continent to contend with and not just a romantic after thought.
But you cool with me DJ. You've always been on point with your analysis on these football threads plus as a DIE HARD Naija football fan I feel EXACTLY where you're coming from. Nigeria vs Italy, USA '94. :puke: Trust me.

That being said. This shit hurts like a mf :(:smh:

Don't appease that nigga one bit that was a cowardly statement...if a European team or US had lost the same way their football IQ wouldn't be called into question...I don't get where he's coming from @ all...it's a stupid/ignorant remark

Ghana is not even my team but this lost has had the most negative affect of any loss ive witnessed at the world cup... that has to be the toughest way to lose ever... and that Penalty Kick....you just to keep that in play at minimum...i feel for those dudes man....seconds and inches away from victory

It wouldn't? Stop acting like you know me son, cause i'd rip into these book reading mufuckas here in the U.S. the same way.

Objectivity. Learn it.

He is not completely off though man...even Nzinga complains about African teams playing Village football... and just completely losing grip of the fundamentals...they do seem to do themselves in more than just being outplayed or outclassed... they lost today because of a mental lapse on that penalty kick... that should be an almost sure goal and he let his emotional state get the best of him...

Perhaps. But it was probably made in frustration. That's all i'm saying. Not gonna crucify dude for that.

There was NO comment by you about the mentality of European players w/ the meltdown of UK and France...don't attempt to speak about something you know nothing of re: objectivity...especially since your remark was a subjective one jackass oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna have to partially disagree here. Ghana didn't play village football today or this entire tournament. Did they have a mental lapse? Yes. Given the circumstances and drama in the last minute of the game could it have happened to even the best coached seasoned teams? ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY. And there's a laundry list of examples two of which were already posted on here a just a while ago with Chelsea's Terry and Baggio's choke.

I can't speak for nzinga but I would assume the lack of fundamentals he was talking about doesn't tie into a lack of a focused mentality possessed by African players...as I told dude above that is a subjective comment t w/ no substantiation whatsoever...NONE.

Lol... I would... nevermind. You win homey. I'm wrong, and ignorant, and a jackass, and everything else you can think of.

Enjoy the day brotha.

Thas love. And I feel ya pain today man. I was rooting for Africa right along with everyone in here.

It just sucks bro, cause the talent is clearly there, but there's some catalyst that prevents these teams to reach greatness. Okocha was my dude coming up in the 90's and I wanted to ball just like that cat. But sadly the eagles came up short this cup. They got away from the football they are historically known for.

The lack of fundamental is not the problem..fundamentally, African players are sound... he was talking about how they throw the fundamentals out of the window and play solo-style village ball. I always wasnt saying Ghana was guilty of that today..but DJCandle was pointing out the various forms of mental lapses by the African teams... Ghana had this game in the big IF they just had a bit of poise at the end..

I dont think he meant it is a racial thing... it is the equivalent of them never being in the big game and not having the poise... they have never made a semi-final... kind of like Nick Anderson at the free throw line..butter....but when it counted in the big game..missed all three... put Jordan in the same situation..and the game is over before he takes the shot...

I think you are getting me wrong. Ghana played well today and actually they played well throughout the tournament. I was just referencing that even how Pro-Africa Nzinga can acknowledge how some of the African teams, despite all the talent, default into village-style football.

Ghana was definitely not guilty of that today. However, a bit of poise at the end and they would have made the semi-final. He rushed to take the kick and also overshot it....

to illustrate that this is not exclusive to African team... look at the U.S.... they played well in the cup, the in all their games... the game didnt start UNTIL they gave away the first goal.. then they started to play with a sense of urgency... happened in every single game..they played from behind the entire cup... even in the last game in extra period.. the gave away the quick goal and then had to play from behind the entire extra time...completely changing the way the game was played... those small mental laspes by the teams that have never really won the big games shows up...

Why did he choke? It wasn't cause he was calm, cool and collected I can tell you. It's cruel, and I understand that, but fact is fact.

Don't get me wrong, Ghana finished strong, and they're aces in my book, but be real about it for a sec ... Suarez handed the continent of Africa a one way ticket to the semifinals.

You shouldn't be missing goals like that.

But what the fuck does that have to do with African intelligence and composure?

If a European or South American misses a penalty shot do you question their intelligence and mental stability too? :smh:

This was all I was trying to state. Fundamentals are exceptional
in African football. Now just do it to the final whistle, and we can all cheer in unision. Maintain that composure that got you to where you were and keep it cool.

Intelligence?? I don't remember saying anything about intelligence. What's intelligence got to do with it?

It's about maintaining composure.

Even my girl called it. She said he was going to miss that penalty kick. Tired, anxious...she said he was going to overshoot it...and what happened..he overshot it... the nerves got to him.... He should have taken his time..not only before taking the shot.... but even during his approach... that is where you need poise and finesse...he just booted the ball hard as hell... that was adrenaline and nerves taking over... because nine times out of 10, that is an automatic goal for a player of his caliber..
