Klinsmann just spoke the fucking truth!!!!

Get soccer in the inner cities!

Not the fucking suburb!

Stop the pay leagues bullshit!

He said in every country except America, players come from the lower class

Racist ass conduct of soccer in the US

:angry::angry::angry:

I dont know man

From personal experience as a poor kid

we played soccer in a rec league but as soon as football season started we all quit

we had some natural talented brothers too

but soccer always ran into football season

and football is king in our country
and basketball is a distant 2nd

and for baseball, there arent any diamonds in the hood so we really dont focus on that

just food for thought

I play and I have to pay $75 registration + uniform just to play in a league, WTF

Then you can't play anywhere you feel like, must have permission to go on a field and you know the cop look for any reason to arrest black people.

If you look at the black players on the US team, they are 1st generation immigrants who still try to keep up the love of soccer their parents have.

After that its a wash growing up in this racist system.....

:smh::smh::smh:

It's all about class. Here in England, football is a working class game. There are courts, pitches, fields everywhere to play... then Cricket... a middle class sport in England, not one black player in the national team... why? Class + finance. Ask yourself why there are more Basketball Courts in the innercity but no fields to play football?

Again, it comes back to class and financing. Look at tennis... when the William's dominated, they got scared. Some assholes complain about the Williams' always being in the final, but don't complain about Federer.

It's all B.S. Just let 1... yes 1 black player rule the MLS and he'll be dubbed the LeBron/Jordan and he will make it popular. Does America really want another black sports icon?

Lalas ain't co-signing cuz he knows himself the best Athletes in America aren't playing soccer!!!!

oh i know, that's why he was hush mouth but the facts are the facts. the best athlete's from the usa don't play soccer and this is why we have to hope to get out of group instead of expecting to make it to the quarters. you can go back to the beginning of this thread this has been my stance since day 1.

lalas knows that if the most talented kids with the hunger like he was saying joins up and plays soccer, then people like donovan and dempsey and altidore won't even be on the team

Yes they do

but its hard to change the culture of a country

americans have tried hard since that loss to germany yrs ago to expand soccer

it just isnt happening

Hart should be the no. 1 goalie now.
Walcott to come back in.
Lampard to retire.
A. Johnson to start on the left, theo right.
Wilshere/Gerrard and Heagreves in the middle.
drop Rooney for a game or so, he will come back.
and bring in gabby, keep defoe and crouch in the squad.

that's partly true but there are no free soccer leagues for us to play. when i was growing up, i played baseball basketball and football year round, never had an off time. when i wanted to play soccer when i was about 8 or 9 my dad found a league but it cost $300 to join. now my dad paid it and i played BUT i know a lot of kids who actually loved it (mexicans especially) but couldnt afford to play until high school, where it was free

Sad the same thing about getting youth involved in a earlier post in this thread.

With that being said, is your avg American willing to wake up @ 7am on a weekend to watch an EPL match? And you hear many complain about the low scoring the football produces. At this stage of the World Cup teams have to score and win to advance but for league matches it not necessarily the case. They want to come away with 3 pts but you'll still get your draws.

Honestly I think if you want to build the sport here, you need to start @ the youth level. How many of us played b-ball, baseball, football (american) as a child? And how many played football (soccer)? If we can get more kids into the sport then the participation will grow and the viewing audience.

Yes they do

but its hard to change the culture of a country

americans have tried hard since that loss to germany yrs ago to expand soccer

True. It's all cultural. All my friends who played B-Ball in my highschool have moved to America. B-Ball simply isn't that popular here.

See, this is part of the problem, the hero worship of self.

Football is a team sport and England just learnt the hard way.

it is not a collection of players, its a team of 11.

The Donovan hype was too much, they are trying to hype up white players in the US.

Look at the promotions they do with Beckham you would swear he was the best player in the world............

In any case soccer is not seen as a career choice in America whereas soccer is the difference between poverty and wealth in other countries, it a way of bringing your family or entire community out of poverty.

We've made tremendous progress, but we've still got a loooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go. It's a painfully slow process. We've just got to keep chipping away. Soccer will never be king in this county, but it will/can/should steadily continue to grow in popularity. With that, hopefully we can begin to steal away a few of those athletes (who we may have lost to another sport) with the elite skill sets necessary for us to become a serious perennial contender.

I made the same argument to Nzinga, All of the top athletes between 5'7-6'3 are all playing other sports and not soccer.

I hear you bruh. When I was a kid we had free leagues sponsored by Eastman Kodak. This was also 25-30 yrs ago too. I dont see any kids playing soccer anymore (unless its PE class)

but soccer isnt in this countrys culture.

It needs to become popular and unfortunately we only get excited for the sport every four years.

and you need a media presence for the sport

when could you air soccer on television?

football is king from aug-feb
the nba takes over from feb-june
baseball kicks in hard from april-oct
then football is back again and nothing is fucking with the pigskin

america simply doesnt have room for the sport to grow

and i didnt even mention the NHL who is also struggling to compete with the big 3 and the Tiger Woods factor

those other countries dont have 4 major sports and a Tiger

its just damn near impossible to change the culture here

Basketball and Football plays that same role in this country and not Soccer.

True. Same with basketball. Most of these guys see it as a way out of the hood. Soccer is seen more as a past time in America. That's why Brazil have five world cups. That's all these kids have in these shante towns. Football. That's it. They play it day and night. Same in Italy. That's why they have three world cups.

Although don't get it twisted... is it a team sport? Yes. But they always look for a figurehead for the sport. That's why Beckham was hyped as a messiah. He was a great player... but because he had the looks and married a spice girl, he was used to bring the sport to America and he failed. Even Pele failed. It's a cultural thing once again.

I promise you... bring one black guy from the hood, and he'll elevate the game to B-Ball status. Someone charismatic, cool and a hero for all kids and I promise you the culture of soccer will change.

Exactly. I mean damn, trying to compete with the NFL, NBA, NHL and Baseball? That's damn near impossible. :smh: And soccer is still relatively new in the USA (the MLS started in 1993)... while football is Europe goes back to the 19the century in Spain, England etc.

Americans learn the game too late.

At 8-9 years old Brazilians have already become technically adept with the ball.........

I hope so

and just think, our third rate athletes are competitive on the world stage

just imagine if our top athletes out there? hell just our second tier athletes

America would dominate this like we dominate everything else

can you imagine athletes like Mick Vick and Chris Johnson on the soccer field?????

its a wrap man

I made the same argument to Nzinga, All of the top athletes between 5'7-6'3 are all playing other sports and not soccer.

The teenagers between 5ft5-6ft should consider soccer as a career choice. Some of the greatest soccer players ever are under 5ft9 (Pele, Maradona, Messi). It's based more on technical skill more than physical strength and height (unless you're a goalkeeper/defender). Look at Spain. Alot of short players but their technical ability is so superior, it's no wonder they're one of the best teams in the tournament. Same with Argentina.

The reason English players are so poor is because they focus more on strength and aggression. They struggle to string together more than 5 passes. Then you watch the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Spain etc. play football the way it should be played. Mastery of the game.

EDIT:

Case in point: The best players from Spain's team and their height.

Xavier Hernández: 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in)

David Silva: 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in)

David Villa: 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in)

Andrés Iniesta: 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in)

Cesc Fàbregas: 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in)

I'd love for socccer to be more of an inner city game, and get some people with stronger passion and incentive playing in America. It's definitely exciting and competitive enough to catch on.

On another note, I'm glad USA didn't have to play Germany and get clowned like that:lol::lol::lol:

Carlton Cole - Not good enough
Walcott - Too one dimensional
Smalling - Looks a good player for the future
Gary Cahill
Gibbs
Wilshere
Adam Johnson - Why didn't England take this guy. This guy can play on the wing.
Huddlestone
Jagielka
joe cole

With the clearout, the one's highlighted in red should announce their retirement right now.

I do agree with your choices for those players coming in. You have forgot about Ashley Young who can play on the left, why did England leave this guy out. I would also say also keep James Milner as well. Gerrard and Lampard should retire with the quickness

Yeah man, it's like a catch 22 tho.

America loves a winner, but in order for us to become true winners in soccer, we've got to have the talent. If we could just get a little push to get over the hump... somehow even if by luck, we could end up with some elite athletes and propel the US program into the same conversation with the worlds best teams, that might create the momentum we need to consistently produce a top notch product.

MLS is becoming more popular. just became the 12th most attended league in the world. and its expanding in every year

really?

everytime i see those live games on espn

the stadiums are always half empty

their is a game today on espn

ill see if the attendance looks better

You know, I was thinking about this as I've watched them. They don't seem to have the crisp precision of some of the other teams.

The structure of the game has to change.

Gulati and lalas etal is trying to keep it a white sport but still try to win on the world stage.

really?

Is there a reason why Adu was not chosen on the American team?

Where are the creative players?
