Everyone thought they would "turn it on" once the tournament started but I don't see it...Ivorians need to make sure they get a result against the North Koreans. I definitely WOULD NOT risk Drogba in that match though.

I think Ivory Coast is gonna stun Brazil...Brazil are gonna regret leaving Ronaldinho at home.. They are simply not good in central midfield. Who is going to be their Emmanuel Eboue??? This is the World Cup Brazil will get exposed. Furthermore, Ronaldo rescued that weak midfield so many times with his deadly and opportunistic finishing, we have forgotten that the closest they have come to having a great possession in midfielder in the model of Bebeto was Ze Roberto.... Ze Roberto, a crafty midfielder even at Bayern Munich, was the difference in the Ghana- Brazil game; and Elano is nothing but a direct player, like Ribery, runs forward but does not control side to side action in midfield...
Even Portugal may surprise Brazil...

I agree, plus Kalou just played a man's game in that midfield/ forward role. Ivory Coast just need to go and score 5 goals against North Korea...But it may not come to that... I give Portugal a decent chance of beating or drawing with Brazil. They have a good presence in central midfield. Their problem is that their lack of individual speed may mean they cannot keep Brazil honest in the back, and the Brazilians may then decide to augment their inadequate midfield with overlapping defenders like the adventurous Dani Alvez...
Who was laughing at me when I said there is not much difference in talent between Ivory Coast and Brazil. If someone wants to tell me that the difference between Kaka/ Fabiano- Kalou/Drogba is orders of magnitude, go ahead and try me... I do not see where Brazil have a great advantage..Robinho is not going to outrun the Ivorian defence.. Drogba can outrun the Brazilian centerbacks.. Brazil may have a better goalkeepr, but that is the only advantage I give them over Cote D'Ivoire..

Portugal is a good team; never underestimate the value of marque player like Ronaldo in midfield. What impressed me was the disciplined midfield defence on Ronaldo. Other than that crack on the upright, they never let that great man do anything. Let him go sideways, and whenever he came in the middle, they blocked him. This game was a great chess match in midfield and I loved every minute of it..
I wish the performance of Ghana and Ivory Coast would wake up Nigeria and Cameroon... and make them realise that Africa's cause is neither doomed nor lost. Both of them simply gave up in midfield. As a result, their defences were tortured all day long. Cameroon, did increase their midfield challenges in the second half, but by that time, the Chinks already had that lead. Even then, they simply did not fix their movement without the ball. Instead, they play village football, where one man tried to beat the entire chink defence. It was Ruud Gullit or Martinez, who commented that the reason why Eto'o and Webo were unsuccessful was that they were always too far apart. Well, if someone could have bridged the space between the two of them, like a midfielder running into a space to make himself available for a pass, that would have aided their cause. Instead, every one stood where he was waiting for the pass to come to him. The Japs simply gangtackled and took away the ball....

Yea they should've but the one guy, forgot his name was basically horrible. every touch he made ended up with change of possession directly or out of bounds and not even nearly close to his target....then he falls down like he has a cramp like thats why he fucked up smh

Portugal is a 1 trick pony, they showed this. They also showed that ronaldo is by himself out there which is a good thing, he falls at the slightest bit of a hint of contact and im tired of seeing it go his way.
after we see brazil perform today then we can go ahead and speculate as to what civ needs to do in order to make it out of this group.

i agree they need a creative distributor. eto'o is the finisher but he always has to start it in order to have any hint at goal. both nigeria and cameroon were relying on goal kicks down t the field to hopefully catch them off guard and get a quick strike, and that just doesnt work. i mean its frustrating. you get possession and your 85 yards out trying to hit a cross and it just flies out of bounds. why not build, create, pass back and forth and then score. if everyone is a threat the defense can't crack down on one person. if you pass it fluidly then you'll score. look at germany...they just simply moved the ball fluidly and the open man scored. nobody was trying to be the hero..just make the correct plays and score. that's what the game comes down to

That is how the World Cup is played.. If you must settle for a draw do so. History has shown that good defence sees a team through. This leaves both these teams very much alive. The question becomes how much you beat North Korea and how little you lose to Brazil by. Ivory Coast has the advantage. North Korea will lose to Brazil today. Since they will still mathematically be in it after today, they will go into the Ivory Coast game hoping for a victory (taking encouragement from what Japan did to Cameroon of course). This will leave them open for Ivory Coast to score goals. They will have to press for the entire game knowing that they need to win. If North Korea loses that game, they are out. They will then go into the Portugal game trying to save face. They will play a defensive game and counterattack at opportune times to try and steal a victory. This will make it hard for Portugal to win by a big margin. At the same time, if Brazil have already beaten Portugal, the will be through to the next round. They will have won the group, and they will play a cautious game against Ivory Coast to avoid injuries and yellow cards, especially to key players. If Ivory Coast have beaten North Korea, they will be trying to win, that game, even though a victory would see them through. Most likely that game would end in a draw, there by eliminating Portugal. This schedule of games makes it very hard for Brazil and Portugal to collude by playing to a draw. If they do that, then Brazil would be setting itself up for trouble because Portugal could then win the group by simply beating Korea. Brazil would put in the position of needing to beat Ivory Coast to advance...

Im not entirely sold on the ivory coast defense though. They shut down a one trick pony, Great, but what happens when they face a real offense? They face one with brazil in this group, and stopping Fabiano,Kaka,Robinho, and Elano will be a lot tougher. Im not even mentioning Bastos and Maicon, who will of course push up with better offense than the Portuguese forwards..
This should have been a win for the ivory coast....no other way to put it.
They are an unknown item at this point.
I dont think they are as bad as everyone else is saying though.
Looking forward to more beautiful women in the stands for the Brazil game.
