Good game.. Argentina easily outplayed them. They're lucky that goal counted.. one of the Argentine players set a pic and prevented a challenge on the ball. Messi played great..just unlucky with the finishes. Gotta love Tevez' hustle.

It's only a matter of time before the goals start pouring in if they keep playing like that.

Nigerian's goalkeeper was the man of the match...he played incredible.

The Nigerian back 4 were the men of the match because they were put in terrible situations and did everything to make Argentina's looks hard. The goalie was excellent, but he really did not have too many spectacular save because the Argies got few clear cracks at the goal. The Nigerian midfield was pathetic...

The midfield is the main defense and offense. Argentina is not a great defensive team, but how many balls did Carlos Tevez, Messi and Higuain take away from Nigerian defenders. Too many. This is exacttly what I meant by hustle factor. The Argentines will chase you all over the field when you have ball. The Nigerian midfield thinks defence is the job of the back 4. The Argentines have made a practise of defending from the forwards and that protects their aging and creaky defense. If the Argentines had stupidly let Nigeria walk the ball up their midfield, we would have seen how good their back 4 is...

One good thing about Americans and Mexicans is that they like to hustle too

What happens with Africans is that after every tournament where they do well, a bunch of them are signed. Then no one else is looked at, and the ones who do not play in the World Cup end playing for the Haifa Stars. That is why the majority of Africans in Europe come from the African teams that have played in the various World Cups. On the other hand, we have Americans who have been drafted straight out of the NCAA into the EPL. That is unheard of.

Do not get me wrong, the situation has improved and you have all these Africans in Spain and England... However, performances like the one Nigeria put today are simply gonna roll the progress back...

You do not know football, the Nigerian defense was not the problem. The back 4 did their job, they did not allow a goal in the run of play; they conceeded a goal on a set play. That happens; ignorant Americans like you think football is a game of set plays, but that is not true. The best teams win on the run of play. That is why Brazil has more World Cups than any team.

In this, as in any other football game, everything was decided in midfield. The Nigerians contested the midfield for the first 15 mintues of the game and then gave up. The only thing that saved them was the back 4. The Argentines, on the balance of such dominance in midfield, should have scored more goals, but Higuahin was missing in action, and the Nigerians actually contained Messi well by making him go on tangential runs.


100% of Nigeria's problems were in midfield. They had one forward up without any support. Even Fabregas asked where the number 10 was. You know nothing about football shut up.

The thing the Nigerians could have done, is to stack 9 men in the box and clog it up but they did not. as their lazy midfielders were waiting upfield for service. Even then in that formation, they had enough men nevertheless. One of the Nigerian defenders tried to make a break for Heinze, but he was held across the chest by an Argentine. A perfect kick, Heinz went in the open space and scored...


The Nigerian back 4 did what a back 4 is supposed to do. They prevented Argentina from getting clear and point black shots. Every Argentine shot was contested. What was missing in the defence were the midfielders who are supposed to pack the space between the wingers and the their other forwards in the box. There would be one Nigerian defender contesting a ball on the wing. Behind him would an Argentine forward waiting for a pass from winger. You cannot do that. You must pack the space between the ball holder and rest of his team mates. That is what Argetnina did and Nigeria did not do.

One reason is that the Nigerian midifielders were sitting up, waiting for the back 4 to get balls and pass them to them so that the could make runs. Even then, the Nigerians were so careless of spacing that, the Argentines would harass the back 4 and leave them no choice but to launch long passes ahead to the one surrounded forward. The reason why the coach must go is that he failed to make adjustments to create space for his team, and choke it out for Argentina. Ademwingie is the only Nigerian who had a clue..

I have to agree the Super Sheagles were a disgrace. I have to walk around here with my head down. The Midfield applied no pressure and stood around most of thwe game and were largely lethargic for 85 minutes. The one good attempt on goal should have be if the last man up payed attention and made an attempt to redirect the shot on goal. Although it was a hard shot, c'mon they game was almost over so play with intensity. Oh well I hope the USA can beat the UK atleast one of my teams might have a chance. Note the the Eagles goalkeeper kept us in the game.

The midfield was relentles, with such sensational players as Samson Siasia, Daniel Amokachi, Iroha, Oliseh, Okocha. I almost cried watching them destroy Bulgaria in the Cotton Bowl at the Fare Park in Dallas. Granted Peter Rufai had to take too many balls off the feet of the other teams forwards (because of the shaky defence of Uche Ukechukwu), that was a Super Eagles that played super. The Nigerian midfield today was made of chickens..
