I mean love for people, people who the so called society detested looked down on, love for your enemies, and so on. What I mean by this is the example Jesus lead who is the figure head of Christianity.
most religions preach love but love to your own people (friends/family), religion, nature, your own god. etc.
alot of people dont read the bible or anything for themselves any more, they just go by other peoples opinions of other peoples opinions. Reading the bible is one thing but studying it and thinking about what it is actually saying and what context is another thing. Alot of people in the Church know the bible stories but the stories are just words because rarly folks think about the big picture of everything together. The stories are important but its the lesson that is important not weather or not the world was created in exactly 7days lol.

The principle story in the bible is far from peaceful. God makes men, gets upset with men, has a son who he sacrifices so that he doesn't kill everyone, and then says "if you don't give me props for killing my son you will burn forever and ever. " Thats violent as fuck.

You can look in the sky and see two of the things you mentioned at this exact moment...can you do that with Jesus? No. Which is why cats call time out when religious folk start attributing all these things to a man which ar all unprecedented. The theory behind a black hole may be totally off but you can still look up into the sky and see the black spot for yourself and come to your interpretation. This is not possible with Jesus...the only information out about him is someone else's testimony and that someone is trying to sell you something so it's far from unbiased.

this thread started out as a discussion of the BOOK, not the religion. Of course, Christians came in and started making claims about people not reading it right, and why heathens would not get it or whatever. On the other hand ya got people bitching about how Christianity is bullshit, blahblah, same old shit.... cue Sean69 with his whole schtick, pretending he doesn't agree with the general premise, and so on...
Then the one guy comes in claiming that Xtianity is more about LOVE than any other religion, which is bullshit.
But really the thread isn't about RELIGION, it's about the book, so what you are saying, and some of the other anti xtians are saying is irrelevant.

yeah i mean thats the one everybody reads first. the greek is particularly good. i like the iliad, thats just great stuff.
but theres the difference even there. As a child, I was given the bible and pushed towards it to be the TRUTH.
I was also given Aesops fables, Greek and Roman mythology, things like that.... I enjoyed ALL OF THOSE way more than the bible, even with assistance from vacation bible school and all that.
I don't know the iliad, I was referring to the God stories they had, with Zeus and all them cats (I barely remember them now). I honestly believed in ALL THE GODS I ever read about. Had no clue I wasn't supposed to. It made total sense to me that every element had a God controlling it. The irrationality and bitchiness of those Gods, without the claims of being perfect set it up so that I could read them as unpredictable, and funny characters.
My bad. So wait, if it's about the "book" doesn't it make it about "religion" because the "book" is part of the religion no?

They tell you that photons are real particles that exist but they have no mass. Yet in the 4th grade u learned that mass = the amount of matter an object contains.
