So here's the thing,....there is no way any of this could have been avoided. They could have had 1,000 NWS personnel onsite that night and this still would have happened. Sure you would have gotten timely weather alerts and flood alerts on your phone, but who really pays attention to it?? Especially at 2am, 3am, and 4am when you're sleeping. They don't sound flood warnings like they do for tornadoes. So even if you don't have a phone, you're definitely gonna hear the tornado sirens.
We are taught how to prepare and where to go for safety in the event of a tornado,....get a basement, a low lying area of the house, a closet, an area free of windows. If you're out in your car, seek shelter in a reinforce parking garage or underneath an overpass.
What exactly do you do in the dead of night when there is a flash flood? You have no idea where the water may be coming from or what direction to drive in the dead of night. Its a damned if you do, damned if you don't type of situation. Die in your house or die in your car, pick your poison.
I seen the vid where the people were standing in the doorway of the house with their phones out, videoing themselves being carried off by a raging river. What in the fuck were they supposed to do or go in a situation like that??
These politicians can do all the finger pointing they want, but the fact is, in the vices of Mother Nature,....you're at her peril. And no matter what type of alert you get for a flood......if you're in its path...., there isn't shit you can do.
