Netflix: The Punisher official discussion thread UPDATE: HE IS BACK! (Daredevil Reborn)

I agree the girl is annoying, but she’s also appeared to be his voice of reasoning in some cases, either stopping from going ape shit (photographer) or just helping him come up with answers. I like how she participated in the restaurant meeting with the Russian dude. I’m just wondering how 9 episodes in her parents aren’t worried about her. Or that Frank hasn’t looked back to check in with the girl he got hurt during the bar fight.
Generally, I think the show is definitely better than iron fist but not the last season of DD.

and they still haven't said why these people trying to kill this girl unless i missed something

She had the pictures of that Senator with his male lover...

So apparently her "crew" were hired to steal some things, on some young newbie shit. They had skills but obviously weren't pros that were about that life. They contacted the cat that hired them to get paid and he either sold him out to David's father or was tortured and turned them over. I forget, it was briefly shown in episode 1 and then talked about when they were showing part of the "Pilgrim's" back story in episode 3 or 4 maybe...

Either way long story less long. The Senator was groomed to be the next President, his mom and dad were big in the Mennonite / modern Amish (whatever that's called) community but they were also thugs... The senator is gay and those pics would leave him vulnerable to either be black mailed / manipulated or tank his chances to be president. Hence the mercs and "the Pilgrim" were hired. No diplomacy, just kill mfkrs and get the evidence back by any means and make sure the girl didn't make copies / tell anyone else

The Punisher's Jon Bernthal says he's "at peace" with cancellation

The Punisher's Jon Bernthal has said he is "at peace" with the show's possible cancellation.

Concerns for the future of the series, which dropped its second season on Netflix last week, have been raised followingthe shock axing of Daredevil, as well as the cancellation of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, leading to speculation that Disney's plan to launch its own streaming service Disney+ has derailed the Netflix Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Previously, Bernthal's co-star Deborah Ann Woll hinted that the second season of The Punisher could very well be the last.

And, speaking recently, Bernthal has declared himself "at peace" with the possibility.

"I know the reality of the situation and I'm at peace with it," he told Variety.

"I really only worry about the things I can control. When I'm playing the character and I'm doing the job and it's right there in front of me, I do whatever I can to make it as good as I can. But in this business there's so much we can't control.

"Whatever is happening with these shows, these decisions are being made in rooms I'm not invited into and I'm okay with that."

The Punisher showrunner Steve Lightfoot has already declared interest in making a third series.

He told Syfy Wire: "We left season two in a place where my hope was everyone would just be like, 'Fantastic, I can't wait for season 3."

So, we guess it's in the hands of the Netflix gods now.

Damn. I'm going to check this out, but if they managed to make it boring I'll be pissed. Not for the so-called character-building, slow, drama shit in my action movies/shows.
It got better. I think I just finished episode 11 but I'm not in a rush to watch it all. The action is great and brutal.

I enjoyed this season....not as much as the 1st one though. That little girl pissed me off, as well as them forcing the Jigsaw "romance" angle...I was really hoping they wouldn't cancel the show and they took from one of the storylines from the 90s ("The Final Days of The Punisher," which I highly recommend) with Season 3 (which they could've crossed over with Luke Cage) where Frank gets set up and arrested by Kingpin, locked up with Jigsaw at Rikers (who fucks his face up BAD), escapes from Rikers, then has surgery and a pigmentation procedure to become A BLACK MAN ...then teams up with Luke Cage. Of course that can't happen now, due to how this season ended :dunno:

Punisher Season 2 Viewer Decline Less Than Canceled Marvel Netflix Shows

The Punisher had a lower drop in ratings between its first and second season debuts compared to previously canceled Marvel/Netflix series such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist and even Daredevil. Jon Bernthal is back as Frank Castle for the spinoff's sophomore year , and while the latest outing received mixed reviews, there were actually a lot of fans who were initially excited to see his return on the small screen.

Netflix is known for notoriously keeping the viewership ratings to themselves. That is why it's difficult to gauge how a project is performing for people not involved in the company. Despite that, third-party groups are trying to track their performance, and while the data they collect doesn't get validated, it's enough for people who just want to have an idea how popular certain shows are. The latest of which tackles Netflix's latest Marvel TV release, The Punisher, and it turns out to be doing good ratings-wise in comparison to other shows in the same small screen universe.

Citing data from analytics firm Jumspshot, Business Insider is now reporting that the viewership for The Punisher just dropped 40% between its first and second season premieres. That's lower compared to the final seasons of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil, as they each suffered a dramatic 60% decrease in viewership ratings. Looking at the overall tally, it's also worth noting that out of all the five solo Marvel/Netflix shows, The Punisher had the worst season 1 debut. That said, its overall performance ratings-wise is better than most of its peers.

While this is in not an indication of a show's quality, it's curious what contributed to these results. Aside from Daredevil, which had three solo seasons under its belt, all other Marvel/Netflix show have only had two outings. However, they've gathered together for 2017's The Defenders for an ensemble offering. The fact that fans haven't seen Castle in a while may have bolstered people's anticipation for his season 2 return.

What this means for the future of the show remains to be seen. While it was previously believed that Netflix's decision to pull the plug on Luke Cage and Iron Fist was mainly because they were underperforming, the cancelation of Daredevil made things much more complicated. Data previously revealed that the third season of the Charlie Cox-led series was one of the streaming giant's most viewed shows. Couple that with the critical acclaim that it received and it doesn't make sense that Netflix would choose to get rid a hit show like that. Of course, there's also the thought that the company is slowly getting rid of their Marvel TV collaboration in preparation for the upcoming launch of Disney's own streaming service this year called Disney Play. Fans would just have to wait and see if this makes any difference to Netflix's decision with regard to the future of The Punisher.

Finally finished this and read all of the comments. I can see how everyone felt the way they did about the show. Whether I agree or don't, I understand it. But to me, I enjoyed it. There was a lot of padding, but it gave the characters a full arch.

The last episode. Seeing that look of "The moment you see me, everything that happens next is your choice. And it's a 99.9% chance it's the last choice you'll ever make." on Frank's face is something I'll never get tired of.

We finally get the Defenders and the Punisher, and it goes down like this. Bullshit.

They added depth to his story
They alluded to it in the script which is ironic

You can't fight 2 wars at the same time

So we didn't get full jigsaw
We didn't get full Amish assassin
Characters were great
Acting was great
Could have condensed this to 11 episodes
1st season was more centered this one had more moving parts they didn't quite capture them in the best way possible

They expounded on the ptsd them in a reversal of Fortune
Frank was the only one adjusted
Jigsaw
Psychiatrist
FBI agent
All suffered PTSD and worked thru it this season

Robbed us of a great jigsaw

Its Netflix canceling these shows not Disney / Marvel

I thought it was good, the fight scene great as always, I thought the low rent John Pilgram (Kai Proctor mixed with Burton) wasn't complex as a villain but he was a bad ass. The girl didn't annoy me like some, she stepped up her game towards the end. But that ending with Corbin Bernsen and Annette O'Toole The Punisher :frozen:.

Marthaaaaaaaa!!!

Haha

I finished the 2nd season last month.

I’m not gonna repeat what has been said, but it was a good season.

Not surprised it received low ratings, they cancel the other shows and expect mofos to watch Punisher in large numbers.

Jessica Jones is gonna have like 100 people watching it.

All I know is Mahoney is a self righteous asshole who has no iota of common sense. The Dr.? I hate her in real life.

Hulu Is Open to ‘Daredevil’ or ‘Luke Cage': Originals Boss Cites ‘Good Creative Relationship’ With Marvel

Now that Hulu is expanding its relationship with Marvel could that lead to the streamer reviving live-action series like “Daredevil” and “Luke Cage” that have been canceled by Netflix?

Craig Erwich, the streamer’s senior vice president of originals, told TheWrap that Hulu remains open for business with Marvel, and that includes any title under the comic book powerhouse. “Marvel has a ton of titles we’d be interested in,” he said, when asked by TheWrap if Hulu would have interest in reviving one of those series.

“It kind of just depends on when they’re ready, [and] who, most importantly, is going to be behind these things.”

In the last year, Netflix has canceled three of its Marvel TV series — “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage.” The second season of “The Punisher” debuted in January, leaving only the third season of “Jessica Jones” left. This also comes as Marvel TV’s big-screen counterparts, Marvel Studios, are also developing multiple TV series for Disney+ that will star characters from the films including Loki, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Hulu is also about to 60 percent owned by Marvel’s parent company Disney, after the close of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s film and TV assets. On Monday, Hulu expanded its relationship with Marvel, signing a hefty deal for multiple animated series, including “Howard the Duck.”

The agreement will see Marvel TV produce four adult animated series — “Howard the Duck,” “M.O.D.O.K..” “Hit-Monkey” and “Tigra & Dazzler” — that will culminate in a crossover special, “The Offenders.” The four series are being written and executive produced by the likes of Patton Oswalt, Kevin Smith, Chelsea Handler, and the “Blades of Glory” directing team of Josh Gordon and Will Speck.

“We’ve had a relationship with Marvel since ‘Runaways,’ we’re getting into business on these animated shows,” he continued. “I’m sure it will lead to — you know, business gets you business — we have a good creative relationship with them. That’s where opportunities tend to arise.”

The deal with Hulu is very similar to the one Marvel TV signed with Netflix back in 2015, in which the studio was to produce four live-action series that also culminated with a team-up special. Erwich said that, though the deal may look similar, they weren’t trying to copy what Marvel and Netflix did.

“Given the lead time in animation, if we want to have a regular cadence of this programming and this kind of conversation that we think it’s going to provide, you have to just start early and commit to a bunch,” he added. “It’s hard to pull it off on a one-off basis.”
