the talk of the town is how the crowd at the AAC needs to get into it more

50+ wins and a 2nd round exit...we might make the WCF if we can get the 2nd seed but honestly unless a trade is made I dont see it happening

 Sad, but fucking true. This team is built for the regular season...built to keep the stands full, the fans are finally restless. Of all the cats on the market this summer, I want Joe Johnson (LBJ/DW excluded). Dirk needs a #1.K-Mart is 20ppg scorer who could carry that #1 mantle. I wouldn't mind adding a Shane Battier type, he's a great glue guy who bring toughness. JAX would bring that same type of toughness along with edge & better offense. We dropped the ball on passing on Blair:smh:. We need more glue guys on the bench to make us a playoff built squad.

In all honesty, the biggest/best move we could make is to bring in Daryl Morey to GM & just let Cuban sign the checks...but it won't happen.

I would like Kevin Martin as well because he is also a good shooter

Josh Howard Expecting trade?

There is a disconnect between the Dallas Mavericks and their prodigal son, Josh Howard.

The disconnect is vast enough that while the organization issues what it hopes are comforting denials of substantive trade talks, DallasBasketball.com has learned that the J-Ho camp believes he will be traded before the Feb. 18 deadline – some Josh confidantes even convinced they’ve pinned down Howard’s future team as either being the Raptors or the Heat.

That means that for the next two weeks, Dallas will welcome phone calls about Drew Gooden, about Erick Dampier and, yes, about Josh Howard.

Yet some teams may see him as attractive for his talent or potential talent. Others may see him as attractive for his $10.9-million expiring contract.

LeBron James is the one driving the team’s pursuit of Jamison

LeBron James is the one driving the team’s pursuit of Jamison, according to a source, and Cavs GM Danny Ferry – as usual – is trying to appease the King. A couple of problems: The Wizards want a young asset in return, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas – while a fit salary-wise – doesn’t fit that description. The sensible piece to include in the deal would be J.J. Hickson, whom the Cavs are reluctant to give up. But if the Cavs got Jamison, what value would Hickson be to them as their fifth big man? One scenario that is believed to be under discussion would have the Cavs hoping the Wizards bought out Ilgauskas after the trade, using some cash added to the deal by Cleveland. That way, the Cavs could sign Ilgauskas back on a minimum deal, Stern better not let this bullshit happen :hmm: giving them the player James covets (Jamison) and a 7-foot-4 insurance policy for Shaquille O’Neal. The Wizards would have to ask themselves if getting out from under Jamison’s contract and adding Hickson is enough to justify a deal that would get them under the tax next summer, but not under the cap.

If the Cavs can’t get Jamison, Indiana’s Troy Murphy is Plan B. And yes, there’s a Plan C -- Andre Iguodala. Whereas the Cavs’ front office believes Jamison could help them win a championship this year, Iguodala would be more of a long-term solution. And he better be, with four years and $56 million left on his deal.

Other Trade News

Rumblings about Ray Allen being on his way out of Boston are accurate, but only if the Celtics can get back a player who’d crack the top eight in their rotation. One scenario that has been discussed would have Allen going to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich and another piece – John Salmons? – to satisfy the salary requirements. If it came to fruition, what an intriguing swap it would be for teams that waged such a thrilling postseason battle only eight months ago. Since Allen’s $19.7 million contract expires after the season, acquiring him would leave Chicago flush with cap space for a 2010 free-agent binge centered around Chicago native Dwyane Wade and an additional superstar.

One of Allen’s teammates also is generating some interest: Kendrick Perkins, who’d be a perfect fit for a team like the Pistons, who are desperate for a post presence. But Perkins only makes $4.3 million, and it’s difficult to imagine the Celtics parting with him given the way Kevin Garnett is gimping around.

Other than Cleveland, only a handful of teams are active in trade talks and willing to take on money. The others are Dallas, Boston, Portland and potentially Denver, which could get ownership approval for a big enough name – though no such possibility is imminent. The Nuggets are steadfastly refusing to include J.R. Smith in any deal, and their quest for a big man will have to go in a different direction with Indiana’s Jeff Foster likely out for the year with back issues.

The Blazers’ interest in Wizards center Brendan Haywood is understandable, considering the catastrophic injuries to Greg Oden and Joel Pryzbilla. But an expiring contract – such as the one belonging to Travis Outlaw – won’t be enough to pique Washington’s interest. As with Jamison, the Wizards want useful assets in return. In this case, sources say, Washington has asked for Rudy Fernandez and has been strongly rebuffed.

There are differing opinions in Utah as to what strategy to pursue with Carlos Boozer. Ownership wants to trade him to avoid paying luxury tax. But don’t discount a solution that would solve both problems: Trading Boozer to the Pistons, who have long coveted him, for Tayshaun Prince. Such a swap would give the Jazz a playoff-tested defender with length and all but get them out of the luxury tax for this season. Prince would be on the books for $9 million next season, but he’d be easy to trade because of his expiring contract. Plus, the difference between owing and receiving luxury tax money this season would be roughly a $7 million swing.

Tracy McGrady’s level of availability – as in, very available – far exceeds the seriousness of the offers Houston has received, sources say. “A lot of talk,” is how one person in contact with Rockets officials characterized the status of the Free T-Mac campaign. Ditto for Amar’e Stoudemire in Phoenix.

While there are only a few select buyers in the trade market, there are about two dozen sellers – but none more serious than the Sixers. Philadelphia is said to be open to trading anyone and everyone, and the conversations always start with the guys with the most money committed to them: Elton Brand, Samuel Dalembert, and Iguodala. Good luck.

That shit will probably happen and it will be the last time it is allowed...Cavs will throw in some cash to ease the buyout for Big Z and he will be with the Cavs by playoff time...Wizards are just trying to cut cash and dont give a fuck

The rule is that if you are traded from a team and then released that you have to wait 30 days to resign with your old team. Hopefully a team that has room on their team signs Z for the league minimum so he can't resign back with the Cavs sort of like the Grizzles signed Darius Miles to fuck over the Blazers.

I know in the NFL Deion Sanders wanted to go to the Raiders one year but the Chargers had a worse record so they had first rights to him, picked him up and placed him on the Reserve-Retired List.

But if he is bought out isnt that different than being waived?

He will be free to sign with whoever he wants and nobody would be able to stop it he would just have to wait the 30 days like you said

I remember reading that if a team does that this year they will change the rule so that the player cant go back to the team until the next season..since its kind of like a "wink wink"/"under the table" type of deal

This is the specific rule

If a team trades a player and the player is waived by the receiving team, the player's original team cannot re-sign that player for 30 days (during the season) or 20 days (during the offseason) following the date of the trade.

NBA Salary cap FAQ

I think if you are bought out its the same as being waived. It should be changed that you can't be resigned by the team that traded you that same year..

he can't shoot:lol::lol::lol::lol: back when he first got drafted everybody would blame iverson for not making him better blah blah blah but even after iverson left the team and he was the man in town he game still didnt improve.

if i was the sixers the only player i would make untouchable is Thad Young

We dont need him to shoot

Kidd shots 40% from 3 now

We have Dirk and Jet as well

Mavericks need an athletic slasher at the position

shit actually we do

nobody on this team attacks the basket excpet JJ Barea and he is hot garbarge..I hope is a part of any deal made

I wonder if the Mavricks would take Igudala and Dalembart for their best waterboy and $1.25?

Iggy would make life easier for the whole offense doggish. You just do not understand. That way Jet can stay on the bench, and hook our bench scoring up.

Amare Not opting out?

Amar'e Stoudemire offered some bright news Wednesday to fans of the Phoenix Suns.

In an interview with FanHouse, the Phoenix forward said he's leaning toward not opting out of his contract this summer. Unless he were to sign an extension before then, that would mean he would put off his free agency from next summer until the summer of 2011.

"I can opt out this summer or I can opt in, which means I'll be back another year (for $17.69 million)," said Stoudemire, speaking after the morning shootaround in preparation for Wednesday night's game against Denver. "That's definitely an option. I'm leaning more toward that right now. Maybe opting in. ... (That would be to) buy time. See how we do. ... I think we got our game back on track. A three-game winning streak."

If Amare doesnt opt out that will make Bosh a even bigger target than he already will be in free agency...that 17.9 million Amare could get next year is probably more than he will get if he opts out and gets a new deal..nigga is pulling a Boozer  wanting to opt out but sitting on that money in this bad market where a out of teams aren't spending

Watch Cuban do some desperate bullshit

I have no confidence in him making a trade after the Jason Kidd trade

Add in giving Diop the MLE and I have lost all faith in the front office

DALLAS -- Owner Mark Cuban acknowledged that the Dallas Mavericks' recent losing ways has made his trigger finger a little itchy.

Last week, Cuban said he didn't see the Mavericks making a blockbuster deal, although the team would explore its options before the Feb. 18 trade deadline.

Cuban is much more eager to make a trade after the Mavs' first three-game losing streak of the season.

"We suck right now," Cuban said before Wednesday night's home game against the Golden State Warriors. "Where before we might not have listened, now at least we'll listen. Nothing dramatic has changed except our performance."

The Mavericks are 31-18 after Wednesday's victory against the Warriors, good for third place in the Western Conference. However, Dallas is 9-9 since New Year's Eve.

If the Mavs make a significant trade, struggling swingman Josh Howard is likely to be the centerpiece of the outgoing package. Howard is in the middle of the worst season of his career, but he's an attractive trade chip because of his contract, which includes a team option for $11.8 million next season.

"It's not like [other teams] think I'm sorry in this league," Howard told NBA.com. "I know that for a fact. If it's meant for me to get traded, it's going to happen. That's not even my concern. My concern is winning."

Howard also expressed frustration with his role and the uncertainty of the franchise's plans for his future. Cuban said he understood that frustration and hoped Howard could work his way out of a slump, but the owner certainly offered no assurances that Howard would remain with the Mavericks after the trade deadline.

"It's just the nature of the business," Cuban said. "People get anxious and get nervous, particularly when things aren't going well and particularly with my history. It's not like Josh hasn't been here five years and knows we've made a lot of trades."

Ainge say “We want Ray”......Unless

Ainge reiterated to WEEI’s Big Show on Wednesday that he has not had any conversations regarding a trade that would move Allen. He felt it was unlikely that the Celtics would find a deal that would help them with a title both this season and in the future. Their priority, Ainge said, is winning now.

And besides, they like having Allen on the court.

“We want Ray,” Ainge said. “We think Ray is a huge part of our winning a championship this year.”

Allen does not doubt the Celtics appreciation of his game and contributions to the Boston community. In addition to his Ray of Hope Foundation, the Allens became heavily involved with the Joslin Diabetes Center after their son Walker was diagnosed in 2008.

At the same time, there is a reality of the game. While Ainge said the Celtics have not actively sought out a trade nor have they been “anywhere near or had any discussion,” that does not mean they wouldn’t entertain talks either.

Vince Gone from Orlando

The Orlando Magic are a team with a number of attractive trade assets – a $6.8 million traded player exception, the ending contracts of Anthony Johnson and J.J. Redick, and the contracts signed last summer by Brandon Bass and Marcin Gortat (Gortat is a Base Year Compensation player).

While the Magic may be mentioned more and more as the trade deadline approaches because of those assets, the harsh reality is even with attractive assets finding value improving a team is a tough task.

The Magic have finally started to put together a few good games and there is no real interest in breaking that up.

The common topic among Magic fans is the fate of Vince Carter, who has been less than impressive this season. Sources close to the situation say Vince is arguably the hardest Magic player to move, signaling that Orlando is stuck with Vince until the deadline next year, when he becomes a $17 million ending contract.

Those same sources have said Vince was never shopped and rarely mentioned in talks with other teams, and despite his struggles the Magic have stayed true to their message Vince is a core piece going forward.

Big trade is unlikely for Lakers

The trade deadline is two weeks from today, meaning 14 more days of rumors and whispers, but the Lakers are not expected to be big players in the market.

They have the NBA's second-best record, the league's highest payroll and do not plan on moving any of their starters or sixth man Lamar Odom.

"There is no compelling reason to dramatically change this team, in particular its core," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said. "We won a championship last year and we feel like we can be as strong this year with the one change we made -- the Ron Artest change.

In other words, Toronto forward Chris Bosh will not be wearing a Lakers uniform this month despite persistent rumors.

If the Lakers make a move by Feb. 18, it probably will be to shore up their depth at ball-handling guard, with an eye toward the future.

Derek Fisher is 35 years old and in the last year of a contract that pays him $5 million this season. Jordan Farmar will become a restricted free agent after this season and Shannon Brown can opt out of a contract that pays him $2.15 million next season, a likely possibility given his improvement this season.

Chicago guard Kirk Hinrich, 29, is an intriguing possibility, but he has two more seasons on his contract for a total of $17 million.

Iggy-Amare swap?

The Suns are still in active trade talks for Amare, with discussions initiated by both the Suns and other teams. The latest is that the Suns have talked to the Philadelphia 76ers about a swap of Stoudemire plus filler for Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert.

While there are a lot of deals the Suns wouldn't do, this is one in which they're interested. It's the Sixers that are holding up the process, I'm told. While nothing's imminent, if Philadelphia GM Ed Stefanski sees an opportunity to unload Dalembert and thinks Stoudemire is the best player he can get, things could get hot quickly.

At the same time, the Suns are planning to make Stoudemire a contract offer in the next few days, according to a source close to the situation. As in every contract negotiation, the contract terms (years and dollar amount) are the main obstacles -- while Stoudemire might want a max contract, that's not what the Suns want to offer.

Other Trade News

A source told ESPN.com on Wednesday that the Houston Rockets have recently renewed discussions with the 76ers about a deal involving Iguodala and Dalembert for the expiring contract of Tracy McGrady. And as I reported above, the Suns have also entered the mix, offering Amare Stoudemire for Iguodala and Dalembert. The Cavs and Dallas Mavericks have explored Iguodala deals as well.

There is a growing consensus that Bosh is staying in Toronto, until this summer, at least. Several sources around the league have said that Bosh trade talk has stalled in the past few weeks, thanks in large part to the Raptors' recent success on the court. The team is winning, and Bosh has been terrific.

For weeks we've assumed that Antawn Jamison is the Wizard most likely to be moved, but that's not true, according to GMs who have had conversations with the Wizards. They say the team is reluctant to move Jamison, a franchise cornerstone. Butler, on the other hand, is very much available, and the Wizards shouldn't have much trouble finding interest: Butler has only one year remaining on his contract and he can still play, at age 29

Timberwolves president David Kahn insists that Minnesota has no interest in moving Al Jefferson. Other GMs around the league are equally convinced that Jefferson is available for the right offer, especially if the Wolves can get a big man in return.

The Pistons continue to be very active in trade discussions regarding Prince. While the team would prefer to move Richard Hamilton, I don't think they're going to be able to find a home for him given his enormous contract.

While Murphy may be overpaid, there are few bigs in the league who can rebound and spread the floor the way he can, which gives him value to a number of teams. The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to be the team with the most interest. If the Cavs can't land Antawn Jamison, Murphy appears to be their second option. At a minimum, the Pacers likely will be able to get back expiring contracts and one asset (either a draft pick or J.J. Hickson) for Murphy.

Iguodala To The Mavs?

The Mavs are involved in “due diligence’’ regarding entering trade discussions with the Sixers for Andre Iguodala, sources tell DallasBasketball.com. And they add that there are three specific debate points – and in conflict with some published reports, one of them is not having to take on the contract of Samuel Dalembert, but rather having to take on the contract of Elton Brand.

And when the Mavs add it all up, it becomes The 108-Million-Dollar Question.

1. Is Andre Iguodala worth four years and $56 million?

When one team insider brought that up in my conversation with him this week, I responded by saying, “It’s the same sort of annual salary you’ve committed to Josh Howard. … and Josh has been a second banana on a contending team. If that made sense with Josh, why wouldn’t it make sense with Iguodala? Isn’t Iguodala a better second banana than Josh?’’

2. How much talent would Dallas have to give back?

ESPN’s Chad Ford is reporting that Philly has received an offer from Phoenix of Andre Stoudemire for Iguodala and Dalembert. Meanwhile, a Yahoo report says all Phoenix has received in terms of Stoudemire offers is “trash.’’

Philly wants some talent in return for Iguodala. Dallas is trying to “win’’ a trade here. In the Mavs' minds, giving up Josh plus more real talent (meaning: Roddy Beaubois) for Iguodala doesn’t represent a win.

3. Dalembert isn’t Dallas’ sticking point. Elton Brand is.

The problem here: You don’t just get Iguodala and his potentially-excessive money. You also have to take on inarguably bad money. Is Dalembert bad money? The Mavs might not love him and his erratic level of play, but he’s only got one season left after this (at $12 mil) and he plays center, where the Mavs could use him.

No, the handicap to a Mavs-Sixers deal -- and this comes straight from Mavs HQ -- is that Dallas believes it will have to consider taking on Elton Brand.

Camby Doesn't Want To Be Dealt

RealGM caught up with Marcus Camby following the Clippers' 103-97 loss in Atlanta on Wednesday and asked him about the trade rumors surrounding him.

"It always feels good to be wanted," said Camby. "That's all I can really do and say."

Camby was then asked if he would welcome a trade out of Los Angeles.

"No," said Camby. "I like the guys here. Mike [Dunleavy] and Mr. Sterling have been great to me. My family loves L.A. But I do understand that it's a business."

Grizzlies looking to add firepower; CDR among players Memphis may consider

Wallace wouldn't talk about specific players the Grizzlies might covet. Recent trade rumors link the Griz to former University of Memphis swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts, who is in his second season with the New Jersey Nets.

According to internet reports, Douglas-Roberts has fallen out of favor with the Nets and has been relegated to the bench. He would fit the description of the type of player Memphis seems to be inquiring about: an athletic, guard/forward who can score and is aggressive on defense.

The Griz have also looked into potential deals involving Miami's Dorell Wright and Utah's Ronnie Brewer.

Putting the pieces in place for the Bulls

What needs to happen for the Bulls to clear more cap room is trade Kirk Hinrich and John Salmons for expiring contracts. It may not be easy, because Hinrich still has two years left at a total of $17 million, definitely starter's money. Salmons can opt out of his deal this summer or stick with the final year of his contract worth $5.8 million.

Moving both players would leave the Bulls with around $30 million to spend during the off-season. That probably won't be enough to offer two maximum-salary contracts. But the Bulls hope the potential of marketing dollars and title contention will be persuasive.

The Bulls would gladly send Hinrich, Salmons and Jerome James to Boston for Ray Allen and filler. The Celtics may feel a need to get younger now, and the Bulls are hoping general manager Danny Ainge says yes before the deadline.

The Lakers could be a potential partner because Bryant has long been a fan of Hinrich and may think his defense can help ensure another championship. The Bulls would want Adam Morrison and other expiring deals in return.

There are plenty of rumors being tossed around, such as Salmon to Orlando for J.J. Redick and Anthony Johnson; or Salmons to San Antonio for Michael Finley and Matt Bonner. Houston has McGrady's enormous expiring contract to peddle and might warm to the idea of adding at least one of the Bulls' guards. Oklahoma City has a number of expiring contracts.

A league source suggested 80-90 percent of the rumors involving the Bulls have probably been discussed in some form.

Another possibility is making a trade now to fill one of those open spots. James, Wade, Johnson and Bosh are untouchable at the moment. But there have been discussions about using Deng as the main piece to get Boozer from Utah or pry Al Jefferson away from Minnesota.

same thing I'm thinkin!

It's gonna be so many teams trying to get under the cap that the Bulls & Knicks are going to be begging teams to make a trade with them.

Dallas has the Josh Howard contract so I think their going to make a move whether its good or bad to try and get better.

Kobe may decide to make a trade with the Bulls to get Hinrich.

The Clippers may try to trade Sebastian Telfair. He's only making $2.7 million but if the salary cap is $52 million they can offer somebody $15 million a year by trading him.

Riley said the team is not looking at players in the $20 million range, instead those between $10-14 million. Though he didn't discuss names, that points to Caron Butler, Luol Deng, Andre Iguodala, Al Jefferson and Tayshaun Prince -- all of whom are being shopped.

Riley said he has talked to all but two teams in the last week, and he plans to meet with many general managers during the All-Star break in Dallas.

Dirk dances around trade talk

Owner Mark Cuban made it clear that the Mavericks are aggressively seeking trade options.

Is the face of the franchise on board with making a blockbuster move?

"That’s not for me to decide," Dirk Nowitzki said. "I play hard every night. I just work here, and we’ll go from there.

"But I think we showed earlier this season that we got what it takes. We won some big games, won some big games on the road. It’s just that now we’re in a little funk, little hole. We’ve just got to keep on plugging. It sounds ridiculous, but that’s all we can do now. I’m not looking for any help but in this locker room."

Dirk is usually as straight-up a superstar as you'll find, but he's feeding us a bunch of bull here. And wisely so. As sensitive as Josh Howard is, Dirk doesn't need to publicly lobby to get rid of him.

I don't know exactly what Dirk thinks the Mavs should do in the trade market. But I do know that he will be asked for his input on any major move the Mavs make, as was the case before the Jason Kidd deal.

Bulls could go from marginal to marvelous by playing their cap right

Sources say the team is looking seriously at several trade options that could unleash enough 2010 cap space to sign not one but two marquee free agents. Here's how the math computes: If the Bulls didn't make any trades before the Feb. 18 deadline, kept their first-round pick and let their free agents walk, they'd have about $16.5 million in cap space -– assuming the cap is $52 million, roughly the midpoint of early projections. That's enough to sign one max free agent, and league execs believe Chicago native Dwyane Wade would be the Bulls' primary target, with Joe Johnson a close second.

But that figure doesn't include a $14.2 million cap hold for Tyrus Thomas, space that must be allocated to him that includes the $6.3 million qualifying offer he'll be due as a restricted free agent. That's why league sources believe the Bulls will try to package Thomas in a significant deal for expiring contracts -- such as a proposal under consideration that would also send Kirk Hinrich to Boston for Ray Allen's $19.7 million expiring deal -- or in a separate deal to one of several Western Conference contenders that have inquired about Thomas' availability.

If the Bulls could move Hinrich and Thomas -- who has long been attractive to the Celtics -- they'd be looking at more than $20 million of space. If they could find a taker for John Salmons, they'd be closing in on enough money to land two significant free agents. While everyone continues to focus on the Knicks and Nets as potential winners of the free-agent summer of 2010, this scenario would put the Bulls in a position to steal the show.

Lakers GM Bryant discusses trade speculation

On whether or not he thinks the Lakers need to make a move at the trade deadline:

“No. I love my guys. I love my guys. I love how we’re built and I love what we have and I’d love a chance to repeat with the group that we have here right now. Obviously Mitch (Kupchak) has to do his job and I won’t get in the way of that but from my personal standpoint, I love the group and crew that we have.”

Iguodala trade talk: Phoenix, Houston

The latest trade talk circulating around 76ers swingman Andre Iguodala has him going with teammate Samuel Dalembert to the Phoenix Suns for star power forward Amar'e Stoudemire and, possibly, guard Leandro Barbosa.

According to an NBA source, the two teams have discussed this and other trade scenarios, although there are a few snags with the potential trade. Stoudemire's contract situation is chief among them.

The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18.

Iguodala has four years and $56 million remaining on his contract; Dalembert will earn $12 million next season, after which his contract expires. Stoudemire's contract expires at season's end, but he has a player option to earn $17 million for the 2010-11 season.

The Suns are very interested in Iguodala, according to the source. But are the Sixers interested in acquiring Stoudemire, who may or may not remain with the team past the end of this season?

Contrary to what has become popular belief, the Sixers are not interested in expiring contracts, so this deal would make sense only if there were assurances that Stoudemire - rumored to be balking at the thought of joining the Sixers - would remain another season and then seriously consider re-signing.

The other long-rumored trade scenario involves Iguodala going to the Houston Rockets for Tracy McGrady and his $23 million expiring contract. According to a source close to the situation, talks between the teams have stalled and could accurately be labeled as "sporadic."
