Mta transit cleaner job applications being accepted until august 31

When I still live there I tried for years to get on at MTA, MetroNorth, and LIRR.

Hard places to get on and worth the effort if you do.

Also, the Freight Trains are great too, no insurance premiums or co-pays and the pension ain't no joke.

Yeah this is the part people in here aren't realizing. Great healthcare, pension and paid training. That's fucking great.

I think a lot of people outside of NYC don't know as many city workings cause their cities are so small compared to NYC. I think every native New Yorker knows a conductor, cop, sanitation etc. Knowing those people that can give you inside knowledge and you realize that these aren't jobs they're openings to CAREERS.

Imagine being retired and paid a half salary for the rest of your life by 50-55 yrs old.
Nyc one of the best places to make lots of money without needing any college education.. we been stating that on here for yrs but lot of people can’t comprehend that.. it’s about getting into the right sector.. from Mta, to the hotels, con Edison, sanitation, to construction, postal, board of Ed, etc.. so many opportunities to make money with just a fed/ high school diploma

I will add DC too! LOL it’s a lot of good jobs in the FEDS (on top of DC Metro, hospitality jobs, and etc.) where you only need a high school diploma

These new lil niccas ain’t trying to work them hours. They the laziest bunch of ingrates I’ve ever seen. This is a great opportunity for someone outta trade school or prison trying to transition to another MTA position. Good post!
I agree everyone I know under 30 doesn't want to work lol. I get it but this is capitalism you gotta work out here lol. Hell my cousin is 45 and doesn't want to work lol.

In NYC, you need $350,000/yr to live comfortably.
That is still pay check to pay check but still ok living.
That will be enough for a building with a doorman.
Enough for daycare and a good school for kids.
Enough for a white wife who is low key.

I don't know shit about NYC, except that it's expensive. I went on rent.com and the cheapest apartments I saw were around $2k a month. The average was right around $4k. I read something else that said one needs to make around $65k a year after taxes to live comfortably in NYC.

So, I just don't see how $19.03 an hour in one of the countries most expensive cities is a living wage. Don't get me wrong, I would never clown anyone for working a honest job. And for someone 18-21 years old starting out either living with their parents or with roommates that job--especially with the advancement opportunities everyone mentioned, is a come up. But, again, I just don't think $19.03 an hour is a living wage in NYC.

Damn 350K? Wow

As has been mentioned, it's an entry-level position. You can take multiple tests to advance to many better-paying jobs. IT'S A CLOSED SHOP! That can't be underestimated in this day and age. The benefits are pretty good too.
If you live in or around NYC you ride the subway and bus for free. That's a helluva savings right there. Most LIRR and MetroNorth conductors will let you ride too.
Every year or so you get to pick your location, hours, and days off.

All in all it's not a bad job and could be a career.
That's actually not bad at all.

I've said it on here before. Dude I grew up with works sanitation. He always has time to do his main hobby......fishing. Dude is always on a boat fishing with his family AND grilling what he catches.

HOWEVER.....

The block we grew up on and where our mothers still live are always some of the first to get plowed when it snows.

Hahaha stop lying to these dudes on here about NYC. Plus you know the white wife part will have the coons in here trying to move here and we don't need that.

Here's the real kicker for this job, you're getting paid to do nothing!!! Because NYC Transit trains and stations are fucking filthy!!! Ain't nobody cleaned up shit ever!!! So you start at 19.03 to do nothing!! U can't beat it!!
I was thinking the same wasn't gonna say nothing though lol.

My cousin 40 and you can't tell him shit to get on his feet. He is currently living with his boys (bunch of incels) saying they living that way because they about to blow in this Crypto shit. Steady asking me for money to invest in a coin and give me a 20% return on my initial loan. He then claims the coin he wants to buy is about to blow 1000%.

I was with him until he talking about borrowing money.
Naw homie, do your shit with your own funds.

Several adult websites that were very popular here on bgol yrs ago that were actually from nyc were funded by the Mta cause the creators/ owners were Mta workers. 1 of the biggest underground legends in the game from the 90s to the 2010s was actually an Mta employee and thanks to his built in demographic of co-workers which was 5 fig amount of employees he was able to have a huge clientele and make thousands of dollars each party he threw( he actually retired from the Mta and collecting a sweet as pension now).. Mta workers were 1 of the top demographic that stripclubs use to promote to in the late 90s to the 2000s cause of their huge amount of employees, the fact they got a consistent check, longevity, and they are very good spenders.. that is just 1 of the many things that being plugged into the Mta can get you, generate money for you, and networking possibilities..there’s a few individuals on here that use to be in the game or are still in the game as far as the nyc adult entertainment that can co-sign everything I just said

Hehehe.. I know that’s all the info they gonna get out of me on that particular subject.. just got to let individuals known how one small step can open big doors.. people never see the big picture.. you already know I could touch on how the West Indian community took advantage of the Mta jobs and own all kinda brownstones, houses throughout bk, queens, bx and how many used that Mta bread and started all kinda bizz, from eateries, lounges, hardware stores, throwing backyard parties, etc.. that Mta network is a motherfucker

You don't have to clean you can drive a bus
As for housing just buy a CO-OP through the Mitchell Lama program I paid $18,000 for 1 bedroom with a parking spot for my leased Mercedes.
Plenty of room for advancement and all you need is a CDL permit they will help you get your CDL license.
I been out for 10 months I just got my HIP replaced and not once did I worry about losing my job.

but big facts

Be careful working for the MTA.

When I was living in NYC back in the 90s, I heard there are plans to completely privatize that mass transit system.

NYC/MTA is the largest Civil Service/Union outfit in the country, along with one of the strongest.

The push to privatization started under the Ed Koch administration in the 1980s after the transit strike in 1980. Every mayoral administration has been working quietly to privatize it.

It will be one of the biggest union busting maneuvers since the 1990s.

And they got their eye on NYC Sanitation also, especially after that strike in 1981 that basically shut down the city.

There are two national garbage companies working behind the scenes and drooling to take over NYC Sanitation.

They are Republic and Waste Management. You may have seen them operating outside of the NY Tri-State area around the country.

Fully eliminating Civil Service jobs are a dream for the GOP and these Blue Dog Democrats.

They know Black folks have been using Civil Service jobs as a step up into the Middle Class. That’s their motivation to get rid of those positions and turn it over to Wall Street where you get shitty pay, shitty benefits and no pensions.

A lot of people in this thread aren't looking big picture at this.

I live near the Queens Village LIRR station. It's in a residential area and you can park for free on the street if you know where to look. The travel time into Manhattan from the Queens Village Station is 30 minutes. You can rent a 1 bedroom apartment a bus ride from the station for $1900/month.
Anyway if you're starting out in the area this job is great. Too many people have gotten caught up in the idea that you can only have a career if you have a college education. No one remembers that a lot of these jobs can be career jobs. Also if this is a job that gets you in the union that's a really big deal. NYC is a union town even tho a lot of people don't realize it.

One thing I'd like to add here as I did above. As a MTA employee, riding the subway, MTA buses, and the LIRR/Metro North is FREE!
Think of the savings you'd add up by not having to drive by and forth to work every day. Unfortunately, you can't add your spouse or other family members to your pass privileges.

But is that enough to live in New York - right now?
That’s 38,000 a yr b4 overtime, night differential, holiday pay, etc.. the answer is yes if you are nyc born..i literally said there’s loopholes that you can go do.. bottle water is not $50.. a piece of chicken is not $25.. lot of things in nyc probably cost the same as many states..in fact some places actually might be more in some categories.. there are people that make less than that who live in nyc and been living in nyc.. the streets are not made of gold I blame the media for making nyc seem like you have to play for the nfl to live here

I'd like to add to this part... you WILL ride for FREE on either the LIRR or MetroNorth depending on which railroad you have on your work pass. It's built into the contract, so you don't actually have to live in the City to take advantage of this opportunity. No cap on overtime and the opportunity to advance to positions that pay very well. Think of this as a "foot in the door" to a career with a PENSION attached.

You also can ride NJ transit for free (they give a courtesy) so you don't even have to live in the state.

You just don't realize how much money you save when you don't have to drive or pay for public transportation
