Men of BGOL, how do you deal with getting older?

100% of getting older for me has been to find balance. Diet and exercise play a major role in dealing with age. Some may think a brother kinda out there, but my body is healing itself. Back in 2018 had a couple pretty bad herniated disk. Changed my diet, a few weeks ago I learned they have shrunk. Bra, inflammation plays a MAJOR role in many ailments people suffer from. Also, Dave Chappelle said it best, wanna kill a nigga? Just give em some salt. I add sugar to that as well.

I keep my sodium less than 2000 mgs a day. at 53 my BP averages 110/67. Cholesterol 150, in August hoping I can get it down to 120 or less. I eat the same thing every day, I call it the Matrix diet. I only give my body the fuel it NEEDS. I drink a gallon and half of water every day. My stomach never hurts, never bloated and the only meds I take is THC for pain.

To be honest. People ask, what can I do to be healthier, live longer? Problem is they ask, but when it comes down to it folks don't wanna put the effort in to get healthy. It's much too easy to just say well, it's a part of getting old and I'll probably be on several medications, no its not. A person "aside from genetic disorders" can be healthy well into their golden years if they start ASAP realizing our bodies need to be properly taken care of and processed foods and just about anything in a bag or can is not something the body doesn't need.

Getting settled in for old age requires discipline that most people are not willing to do. I also fast 20 hours daily to allow my body to repair cells and DNA. Thats just me though. My thought process is once I realized how much I abused my body over the years, realized how much drama I had taken it through, I began to feel bad for my body for abusing it for so many damn years. My sacrifice now is my way of thanking my body for not "giving up on me" Be well brothers.

The only sugar comes from feeding bacteria. Take sugar reading. Initially sugar is at 29 grams After sugar levels drop to less than 5 grams the bacteria have eaten most of the sugar then drinks fall within acceptable range to consume without drastically raising blood sugar.

Great thread.

Only thing that reminds me that I'm get old is my siblings on their birthdays. Well that, and my daughter cringing at my jokes.

What keeps me right:
Making sure I exercise
A wife 12 yrs younger
Some weekend time on Xbox live
Challenging my mind to learning something new all the time
Hobbies
Travel
Good food

I'll be 70 in May. Shouldn't have made it to 30 based on my lifestyle. So, for me any day past my 20's has been gravy. As time has passed I've learned to adjust my lifestyle to go along with what my body will allow me to do.
My suggestion to those in their 30's -50's is to pick the older relative you think you most mimic physically, and study them and their ailments. Establish a moderate preventative exercise regimen, and read up on those genetic ailments.
Most importantly, don't try to force yourself to do what you did a decade ago. As the old saying goes " You have to know when to hold them, and know when to fold them."
Enjoy the ride.

Ya'll cats will beef about anything. But Shady has to be about 55 yrs old.

I always believed this but someone on the board recently articulated it so well...the key to longevity is slimming down. I still lift weights, but I now spend more time on cardio than weights.

Massages, icing knees, protein, turmeric (for arthritis), sleep, eat as much vegetables as possible, eat smaller portions, less sugar and salt, and of course, good, drama-free side pussy.

Top 3 for me is oral health, gut health and heart health.

Don't sleep on flossing and brushing before bed. Old men with shitty mouths is rampant and I don't want to be one of them.

Take probiotics, eat your greens (chlorophyll eliminates body odor) and cut out unnecessary sugar (acne, diabetes, inflammation)

MOVE everyday, walking is one of the best exercises known to man and great for mental health. Before the pandemic and WFH I was always on the move in the city, speed walking and running up and down subway stairs. My cardio was amazing, never got tired while fucking or sparring, no aches or pains, no breathing problems, flat stomach. BUT I made the mistake of "letting myself go" during lockdown and embraced the American way of being a lazy sedentary blobs like my coworkers. Now I walk, run, lift and box daily and it reversed all the bullshit that comes with a sedentary lifestyle.

If you can't get out for a walk, shadowboxing is amazing for hand eye coordination, cardio and most importantly how to throw them hands.

Stay active

Walk, play ball, get out in nature

Take solo trips

Surround yourself with like minded older heads and peers.

Preach on bro preach

For me its Yoga, Calestenics Excercises (Pull-Bar and Push-ups variation) everyday, Traveling solo, taking time to spending time with the supreme being (God, Allah, Jehovah, etc.) everyday, constantly improving my español, and constantly improving my professional craft, and keep investing.

I met some older dudes in their 50 and 60s that are fit and look diesel. They told me to enjoy life, workout everyday, keep God first, eat right, constantly challenge yourself. Complacency is the devil in my book.

Like said earlier enjoy nature, it kind of slows time down. Take trips even if they a quick road-trip. Do absolutely everything you want to do. Meaning if you want something new go ahead and buy it. I see my co-workers waiting for retirement, but as I look around John Singleton/Kobe/Dj Kay Slay and many more. Died earlier before any corporate person could retire at retirement age. Also think if everybody knew there death date. People would try to get a lot done before their time is up. And that’s how I live life, Call out sick if you have to and travel!

Last but least some people younger will crack jokes about your age. I tend to hit them with, you might not even be alive at 44 at least I can say I past your age(32 or whatever) already.

I accepted my mortality long ago, in my mid twenties my hairline started receding, I shaved and have been bald for over 30 yrs, plus I had alot of older cousin and family members that raised as a village, and learned that we are all born to die; but depending on how you care yourself when you are young, depends on how you age...... No Pork, No Alcohol, No Drug and Smoking..... and when I talk to people and/or see people that do not know me, they think I'm in my thirties, that is when I shaved (lol)

Everyone, I really appreciate the feedback and the honesty of the posts. Keep the posts coming I am digesting all this information.

Elements of the American government did not believe Hitler died in 1945. The Office of Strategic Services, an early version of the CIA, created identity portraits of what Hitler could look like in disguise. Federal Agents used these portraits as they followed clues worldwide for years after WW2.

As you get older hopefully you're making more money and wiser. Buy the dream house, dream car, take vacations even a staycation, get season tickets to your favorite sports teams games. Break your normal routines, attend black tie affairs. If you live in Atlanta don't go to the restaurant/clubs in Buckhead. You might not run as fast as you used to when they start shooting.
