Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

I believe that's spelled "COLLEGE"....But I'm just fuckin wit you...Lord knows I got my share of typos and str8 up misspelled words.....it was just funny the shit was as you were citing a quote about an institution of so called higher education....

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

Another problem is the fact that the FANS aren't fans anymore, their critics,bloggers,lable/business know-it-alls,sound scan trackers, youtubers and gossip kings&queens.

Alot of the bullshit thats going on and we hear about wouldn't even be a factor if people would go back to being FANS who enjoy the artist and their music enstead of all of that other bullshit no one cared about until about 98' when everyone and their mothers had that slow old cranky bitch named dailup and her cyber super sister called the INTERNET.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

But gansta rap wasn't the only variation to come out've the West Coast.

There were crews like Digital Underground, Pharcyde, Souls Of Mischief (Hieroglyphics) Saafir & the Hobo Junction, Madkap, Freestyle Fellowship, Alkaholiks and a host of other enlightened groups that really dropped science and positivity back in the day.

Unfortunately, many of these groups were never given their props by heads on the East and in some cases, got totally slept on and ignored by salty mufuckas who just wanted to deride anything that came from the West Coast.

If anything "killed" HipHop it was our collective inability to embrace the diverse greatness of all regions and the styles spawned by our struggle in the diaspora to utilize our creative spark to full effect.

It shouldn't matter where a rapper hails from as long as he or she is bringing the real shit.

Anything less is just pure hatred.

Those groups were given props on the east coast. I still have my stretch and bobbito tapes with those crews freestyling. Not to mention ralph mcdaniels would play there videos

Kool+G+Rap.jpg

All hip hoppers know G Rap is the father of East Coast gangsta rap. NWA got more controversy when they did it, because they made songs like "Fuck the Police", and I will say more east coast acts emulated them when they seen their success. But in the beginning, before Big, before 50, and all the other knuckleheads, there was only one mc that was spitting hard street stories about murder and other harsh realities, and that was G.Rap

Thank you sir any real east coast music fan knows this. Grap never gets his due.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

Thanks for the drop fam. Mel was going hard, with pure truth. Can't do shit but respect that man's opinion.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

The Summer of 1994.
I was in college for 1 YEAR. Came back to QUEENS next summer and saw some of the dudes I hung out with Reppin' BLOODS.

I was like WTF!

That just shows how weak minded New York is. The crips and bloods came to the Bay Area and tried to run their little bullshit and got ran out.

Bottom line NY quit crying. The gangster shit was hot and took over rap music. Let it go.

Basically OP tried to make it seem like that is what he was saying which only proves rap is still in the whole West vs East behind closed doors everyone wants that feud rivalry IMO
that doesn't change the fact that what he's saying is TRUE
C/S This dude had like 5-6 dope quotes in that joint:
"Everyone selling drugs nobody buying drugs no more, so they fighting"
yeah i noticed...im glad he said it though...i saw it happen

they wanted something as abrasive as public enemy but wasnt on the knowledge...
something destructive but with the same edge.

nwa.jpg

:itsawrap:

i hear yall mentioning all those before nwa but none got the push

censorship was heavy as fuck back in those days

the next thing you know out of nowhere it was cool to cuss and talk

dope sex and killing

interscope was it?
Real spit RR u just open my eyes to that...Don't forget "2 Live Crew" now all rap is sex drugs and violence

I ain't knockin NWA they were doing them but they did get away with a lot
NY started that flossing rap, Thats when NY rap fell off.

"west coast gangerism" was never really bitten, because when NY was on that hardcore shit, the Murder rate in NY was insane..(much higher than any city per capa)

so it was just niggas reporting from the streets.

Melly Mel doesnt really know shit about the that particular subject because he was irrelevant even in the late 80's.
NY didn't really start the flossing rap thing but I agree when Biggie, Jay-Z and Nas decided they were "Dons" NY rap never changed
They don't know any better.

bumping, because the truth matters.

good look

Thanks for saying this. We opened Pandora's Box and now it's no longer about the music. People have the actually live out the character they created. Eventually the artist are more the character than they are themselves and they flip out like Kayne West once they realize they aren't themselves anymore. Just a character.

We dis guarded intelligence for ignorance. We got caught up with being the hardest motherfucker on the block and instead of the smartest motherfucker period. The worst part is that we taught our youth the worst parts of being a black person and made it acceptable. We gave them hate instead of hope. We told him it was ok to kill your fellow blackman in the pursuit of money.

Gangsta rap no matter which coast it is from was the worst thing the happen to blacks since crack. You niggahs arguing over which coast is better or started that shit is pointless. It's like niggahs fighting over a sinking boat, who the fuck cares how it happened, the most important thing is to get the boat sailing again.

To anyone under 25 who is smart enough to listen. We as a generation were wrong for glorifying, buying, promoting, and trying to live that shit. Do something better with your life. The world is not all about doom and gloom. You as a black man CAN control your own fate and make something good out of life.

If your going to sell drugs and hustle, do it with some sort of honor or morals and not like the cutthroat savage these assholes tell you to be. The world was a better place for black people before gansta rap, too bad you youngsters weren't around for it.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

Schooly D From Philly was doing East Coast Gangsta Rap during the same time so his argument is bullshit.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

What he said about rap can basically be said about black music in general. Black culture in music been for sale to the highest bidder since the earliest Def Jam days. What you're hearing now is just the end result of a 20 year fire sale on anything black related. Now you have white singers like Pink and the drunk english lady sounding more black than the so-called black artists of today (you know who they are, I ain't throwing up the bat siggy)

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

another negro who isn't getting no chips.

Point missed.

It started with NWA

I JUST told my boy this two days ago and we had it OUT!

Hip hop started in NY Jimmy you know this, back in the 80's was dance and love rap then in the early 90's a shift changed when NWA came out coupled with the media over hyping them and the crack epidemic and coming out of the Reagan era NWA made waves and long gone was the love and dance rap and intellectual rap... Ever since then negative hip hop sold and either niggas had to get on the bus or get the fuck off.

So yes Jimmy West Coast gangsta rap was the fall and death of hip hop, are you proud of that? couple that with the South who resurrected it and killed it 3 times over.

Watch your mouth about the South. We were give to this game, we didn't make it.

Admit it, son. You don't know anything about the transition. That wasn't your time. The man behind NWA helped push that mentality into rap. Before NWA, it was "amazing" to hear a rapper use one curse word on an album. Gangster was supposed to play itself out like beat boxing, reggae vocals, rock fusion, to usher in new styles but it never came to pass.:smh:

Plus there were forces out to play positivity rap in late 90s. Corporate lawyers began lobbying for outlandish sample laws that made it impossible for the flagship group of positive rap Public Enemy to maintain that HIT SQUAD sound. Soon after PE lost their appeal.

It is what you CAN'T see is what has got the game ALLL f*cked up!:smh: Cats don't really know anything about this move.

Thanks for saying this. We opened Pandora's Box and now it's no longer about the music. People have the actually live out the character they created. Eventually the artist are more the character than they are themselves and they flip out like Kayne West once they realize they aren't themselves anymore. Just a character.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

brilliance. the nigga dropped knowledge - some of which only and OG NY cat will know (like myself). hip-hip was ORINGALLY a route out of gangs. and i don't just mean 'rap music'. i mean hip-hop as a culture. brothers would breakdance against each other INSTEAD of fighting. cats would rhyme INSTEAD of fighting.

it is very interesting the way hip hop has helped bring about the spread of gangs and gangterism across the country - when in fact it was orginally a mechanism against that shit.

Mel dropped knowledge.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

I don't see how anyone can disagree with anything he said

Lauryn Hill leaving fucked up female rap

I think Kayne was cool and added more diversity, because he opened the door for rappers like Cudi, Lupe, Wale. They wouldn't be putting out albums if it wasn't for him.

Re: Melle MelSays New York Rap Fell Off When They Starting Taking Westcoast's Gangste

new york = that fine ass chick that is still so insecure that she's always talking down bitches that aren't even on her level.

people/places/things that new yorkers have blamed for NY's ever decreasing influence and popularity in hip hop = atlanta, west coast, tupac, the recession, bill o reilly, skinny jeans, the chupacabra, falcon the boy who was supposed to be in the balloon, hosni mubarak, and the greenhouse effect.

But there were also a lot of peeps on the East Coast who hated on the groups and artists I mentioned just purely off of the fact that they hailed from the West Coast.
