If u can't be used then u uselessMelle Mel is being used, and his rants are decisive. No young dude wants to be yelled at, to get their attention.
Well pplz tell a current artist use one of em thenMelle Mel is being used, and his rants are decisive. No young dude wants to be yelled at, to get their attention.
If u can't be used then u useless
If they getting shows off of this being booked more often, how could u be mad at this
Bottomline white ppl respect the art more than blacks
I'm black n lived it most of them studied it but it's good for the culture thats why all the old heads getting booked over seas cause the ppl yall like to talk about not buying tickets to their concerts in the states like that so stop it
Hip hop not what i studied i still have a lil chair from my childhood that i wrote rappers names on it u know what i spelled alot of em wrong lol
But yall do know white ppl grew up listening to hip hop as well huh
Then you and the rest of the black people like you who are old enough to remember them who grew up on them should be the ones supporting the acts of your time right?
Old heads are getting booked overseas because everywhere else in the world is LATE. they're not current with what we're doing in another 10 years the acts of today that aren't mega stars will get discovered over there and be big.
Stop trying to make the youth today hold up their end AND your end of the shit too.
You and your ilk need to go to the shows. we're creating now.
you keep the history alive.
Macklemore didn't do this shit to pay respect. If anything, he's exploiting hip-hop to make his pop record sound better.
People don't like the song because it isn't authentic hip-hop. You can tell he only grabbed these rappers and put 'em on there just to give the song more authenticity. But it still feels like he's just spoofing hip-hop.
It doesn't feel like Macklemore was really influenced by these cats on his record, he just wanted the record to look better on paper.
Kendrick, Cole and all the other young rappers - you can hear the influence in them. And they'll do features with people who influenced them personally.
Kendrick has worked with damn near every West Coast legend you can think of. J. Cole made a whole goddamn song about Nas. Big KRIT is basically doing his best Pimp C impression.
Mel's just mad that it's not them. He doesn't realize that maybe these kids (who are generations apart from them) didn't grow up on that shit, or even like that shit. And maybe they don't want to throw cats like that on their records, just to say they did, because it ain't real. Maybe they just don't want that Sugarhill Gang/Grand Master sounding shit on their records.
Melle Mel is just happy he got a check and wants more people to give him handouts, let's just be real.

And the more I think about it the more it feels like a strategy by Macklemore because those names Mel mentioned are his biggest competition and we know what happen with them Grammys. Mel just been provoked to shit on Mackelmore competion so he didn't have to and carry the burden of dissing in a song. He gets to sit back and look like the nice innocent guy paying homage. So when his competion start dissing they just look like sore losers.
Macklemore proxy dissing now using old school heads as his mouth piece. Knowing their status gives them authenticity and credibility. To the new school fans of Macklemore and the old school fans of Mel and Kane it just makes them respect him even more and solidifies his place a bit better into hip hop.

This was 31 years ago..
J. Cole 30 years old
Kendrick 28 years old
Why would he call out these kids???
Hawaiian Sophie fame 1989, I think he need to leave Jay out of this one.
I went to the movies to see Beat Street, it looks a lil funny to me now. Just imagine a 25 yo watching it today![]()
I get what he's saying but it came off as an old man rant at these "young punks."
I feel a lot of this younger generation can put on the pioneers a lot more but as stated its a two way street.
A lot of these rock/heavy metal festivals have a mix of old and new school. Sadly, it's mainly new school when it comes to hiphop festivals. That should tell you something.
now its his skin color... back when he caught their attention it was either crush him or push him cause he just out sold LiL Wayne without a label or mainstream advertising...
Thinking about it now, da shit reeks of arrogance and entitlement.
Post civil rights/affirmative action generation strikes again. They sucked up to Mr.Charlie back then (and now with Cacklemore), built NOTHING economically that can be passed down (why these old schoolers didnt start labels or something tangible so they dont gotta whore for a check?), and they treat their "kids" like they owe THEM while hating to see them do better. Complete failures in life who need to sit down and shut up. Im all about respecting OGs BUT only if they built something or share information. Just being old demanding respect just cause dont make you an elder just an older.
Tell Melle Mel to go crying to the CACs and Jews who own the labels that have profited the most ECONOMICALLY off the "culture he built". Nah he'd rather take shot at the young black kids who work for them and say THEY owe him instead while praising a CAC.![]()
Why?
Why do they NEED to do that?
They don't imo.
I hate that shit. If you do it fine. If you don't it should be fine too. Paying homage in your own way should be perfectly fine.
There shouldn't be a set of fucking rules you HAVE TO DO in order to prove that you're paying homage to people that came before you fuck that bullshit.
Why force them on a track they probably don't belong on?
Why force them on a tour they don't belong on
why make a mixtape when your styles probably won't mesh?
just to do it?
Its people YOUR AGE that should be keeping their music alive. Its people YOUR AGE that should be going to their shows and supporting them and selling out their shows when they come to your city.
do YOUR FUCKING JOB
stop passing the buck
I understand where Mel and Kane coming from but THAT statement right there turned me around.
Its is OUR responsibility to preserve the legacy and history.
We SHOULD have a hip hop museum...
Uncle Ralph McDaniels should be seen as an official hip hop archivist
We need to have a society that preserves ALL mixtapes and video of performances.
It is OUR responsibility.
Remember the ATCQ documentary...they all hated on Michael Rappaport and YES it wasn't GREAT but it was a labor of love and he DID it.
If it is OUR history WE need to be the ones that curate it.
Unfortunately Mel named the WRONG those particular rappers...
because all 3 ALWAYS show love to originators (no pun intended)
Mel can find all he excuses he wants to justify his decision as somehow noble but it isn't.
He was used by the white boy, he got paid and I hope he can parlay it into something...
And I would love a small tour with all of them finishing up at MSG...like a fresh fest 2016
Y'all keep saying he shoulda did it another way
what the fuck u think these old school cats been saying for the longest while being interviewed it's just now yall listening because its only news because of Macklemore
Everytime u asked a question or make a statement it's not always going to be said the way others might want but it's whatever
It was the truth tho so......
I said it before:
no one is talking about forcing anyone to do anything its called an offer...an invitation. Thats a gesture of respect from the people IN THE GAME not just the fans. If your a premier basketball player and dr j is in the audience you put the spot light on him for a second and acknowledge his contribution to the game..
you invite him to sit with you on the bench. you talk about his influence on your game and career in the post game interview even if your really a magic johnson fan. Its acknowledging a statemen in the game and someone who came before you.
look at my analogy..DR.J predates Magic and Jordan and Iverson and Lebron. That high flying above the rim style was popularized by him long before those cats if you know anything about basketball you should know that and respect it for that reason regardless. Remember when we used to say "you better recognize"..thats what that means. Thats what macklamore's gesture did regardless of how calculated it was.
He recognized an elder in the culture even if its not a rapper he personally listened to or liked like that. Clearly thats something Mel feels is missing from black rappers he named.
Melle Mel predates all those cats..east coast and west coast..hip hop was created in the east in new york and exploded and migrated from there. When you talk about the early 80s (79-83) all youre talking is them. So from his perspective.. he should be able to go anywhere in this country and be recognized and be invited to sit at the table anywhere he goes on on both coasts. Look at the cats he listed from Jayz(east coast) to rick ross and j cole(south) to Kendrick lamar (west coast)...thats a not a random listing.
again for the black rappers who do that..fine it is as it SHOULD be. for those than haven't..thats shameful. And thats where the issue is.

Does he not get that he was used as a "cosigner" to macklemore's "street creed"?
