Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop His

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

I think Mel missed his mark with this one. Personally when i hear KDot and Cole, i can hear they were students of what came before them. Jay, has rep'd fair enough for me. "Im overcharging ni99as for what they did to cold crush!" Biz Mark and Slick Rick in the girls video. Mel just felt good to get some mainstream shine, and went alittle to far.

name checking is fine...shit kim kardashian gets name checked...so what..

how about putting them on a track?

how about putting them on a show in a tour?

How about producing an oldskool/newskool mix tape and droppin it on tidal??

how about producing an appreciation show every few years to keep their names and music alive??

Thats how you rep for the elderstatemen and women in the culture..

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

I do this for my culture
To let 'em know what a nigga look like...when a nigga in a roaster
Show 'em how to move in a room full 'o vultures
Industry shady it need to be taken over
Label owners hate me I'm raisin' the status quo up
I'm overchargin' niggaz for what they did to the Cold Crush
Pay us like you owe us for all the years that you hold us
We can talk, but money talks so talk mo' bucks

hmmm.........

mel lost credibility when he mentioned jayz, he let some unnecessary hate come thru

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Macklmore was locked in with the international long before we heard him
He is hiphop more like the Beastie Boys were... not like 3rd Base was

I don't doubt he has "international" fans, but what demographic are they? I also don't doubt he was "spooked"by Iggys rapid decline. :scared: I'm certain many so called hip hop aficionados weren't and still aren't checking for son, but after this song I'm sure they have at least heard of him by now.

Why?

Why do they NEED to do that?

They don't imo.

I hate that shit. If you do it fine. If you don't it should be fine too. Paying homage in your own way should be perfectly fine.

There shouldn't be a set of fucking rules you HAVE TO DO in order to prove that you're paying homage to people that came before you fuck that bullshit.

Why force them on a track they probably don't belong on?

Why force them on a tour they don't belong on

why make a mixtape when your styles probably won't mesh?

just to do it?

Its people YOUR AGE that should be keeping their music alive. Its people YOUR AGE that should be going to their shows and supporting them and selling out their shows when they come to your city.

do YOUR FUCKING JOB

stop passing the buck

very different artists - Iggy is industry made
Macklemore is the blueprint for every new artist to follow
He is still independent - his core fans have been on him for almost 10yrs w/o radio or industry attention - he has his own network marketing thats been working +7years
UMG only got his physical distribution - everything else is still Mack and Ryan

Aspiring artists should be studying him along with ASAP and Odd Future

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

cacs do it all the time...thats how they got jazz and blues..say goodbye to hip hop in 10 years young buck..:smh::smh:
fuck that - all american music is stolen from us

Gershwin, Rock Country / Blue Grass etc... its just hiphop's turn - I'm just waiting for the real hiphop Elvis Beatles and Rolling Stones to come

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

wtf are you talking about? Macklemore doesn't need shit - he is guaranteed and locked in his fanbase in the alt edm hipster circles - he doesn't need mainstream or pop...

If he didn't/doesn't need a plug into the real rap circle what's his point in this? Please tell me you think he's a hip hop historian and just wants to pay respect to the pioneers.

Yeah I'm aware of that he became "successful" on his own, and it is interesting. But since I first found out about him I got the impression he made it so big because of his race. Call me a hater, but when he first went national it felt like he was made out to be "race music" of sorts. He wasn't the only one doing it indie or grassroots, but he spoke to americas inherent Racism thus exalted much higher by the masses. Just like Eminem, the white masses make them out to be more than what they really are, not to say they don't have much skill but damn.:smh: And yes perhaps I am a tad bit bitter, but thats what seeing people lighter than you getting various perks in this biz time and time again due to their skin color can do to you..

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Macklemore didn't do this shit to pay respect. If anything, he's exploiting hip-hop to make his pop record sound better.

People don't like the song because it isn't authentic hip-hop. You can tell he only grabbed these rappers and put 'em on there just to give the song more authenticity. But it still feels like he's just spoofing hip-hop.

It doesn't feel like Macklemore was really influenced by these cats on his record, he just wanted the record to look better on paper.

Kendrick, Cole and all the other young rappers - you can hear the influence in them. And they'll do features with people who influenced them personally.

Kendrick has worked with damn near every West Coast legend you can think of. J. Cole made a whole goddamn song about Nas. Big KRIT is basically doing his best Pimp C impression.

Mel's just mad that it's not them. He doesn't realize that maybe these kids (who are generations apart from them) didn't grow up on that shit, or even like that shit. And maybe they don't want to throw cats like that on their records, just to say they did, because it ain't real. Maybe they just don't want that Sugarhill Gang/Grand Master sounding shit on their records.

Melle Mel is just happy he got a check and wants more people to give him handouts, let's just be real.

no one is talking about forcing anyone to do anything its called an offer...an invitation. Thats a gesture of respect from the people IN THE GAME not just the fans. If your a premier basketball player and dr j is in the audience you put the spot light on him for a second and acknowledge his contribution to the game..

you invite him to sit with you on the bench. you talk about his influence on your game and career in the post game interview even if your really a magic johnson fan. Its acknowledging a statemen in the game and someone who came before you.

what did it cost you to do that??

a rapper like jay z or kanye or wayne is worth upwards of a half a bil..

whats studio time to them?
whats a throw back mix tape track? how can that hurt their career at this point?
whats pulling up on stage if your in their town and doing their hit with them?

now its his skin color... back when he caught their attention it was either crush him or push him cause he just out sold LiL Wayne without a label or mainstream advertising...

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

yea right mack did it from the bottom of his heart, his fuckin team

got together threw some ideas around the room and that one stuck..

Mel is a legend but he is in a real salty stage right now....

What did he do to bring up the next act when he was in his prime...??

He is from the ol skool where you try to remain on top forever, instead of grooming the next generation...

same shit with drug kingpins, if they all made their twenty five milly and stepped to the side, got out the game..

none of them would be in jail now...

but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO they going to ride that horse till it drops dead...

so good for mellie but he needs to look in the mirror!!

I think they have good instincts for marketing... OGs are an old gimmick, but he didn't have any of them spit bars -so in a way I think he is trolling the mainstream cause the song is shit but the video is great -

Exactly.

a rapper like jay z or kanye or wayne is worth upwards of a half a bil..

jay-z came out in 96. he is fucking old school. he has no responsibility to do the shit. he should be the one getting brought out on stage at this point but his career is such he's still hot. he is an anomaly.

whats studio time to them?
whats a throw back mix tape track? how can that hurt their career at this point?
whats pulling up on stage if your in their town and doing their hit with them?

I co-sign this entire post. Fuck these salty old niggas that want the new cats to bow down. Respect is a two-way street. Do any of these old heads reach out and tell the young kids that they respect and like what they're doing? If not, fuck 'em.

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

im just talking hit the spotlight. but even still that's even more of an argument.

but you see he changed it right?

he went from why not put them on the tour.. why not do a mixtape with them.. why not do this and that to

"oh just bring them out on stage"

they already do that shit! been doing that shit!

It ain't even about disrespecting the old heads. It's about them not feeling entitled to new cats owing them everything when the old heads themselves didn't do shit for them to help them.

Symbolic gestures like bringing them out on stage or something they already do that.

Shit Kendrick was all over dr dre album he had snoop on his latest album.. those are the people he grew up on.

J Cole had TLC on one of his biggest hits to date, did an entire dedication song to nas. that's paying homage like a motherfucker.

so what exactly is he talking about?

Nelly is old school to the new artists out there today. If anything they should be doing shit with Nelly not Melle Mel. and what if he and his people didn't influence him?

Shit Too short can be found on every west coast record there is.. you give too short a verse or a hook on your album to pay respect

so what the fuck is melle mel really talking about?

Bun b gets work
scarface gets work
all these old school southern acts gets features on southern artists all the time.

same for west coast

so who should melle mel be calling out?

talk to 50 cent and them about that shit.

the point is what you got on your soapbox about is already happening and has been happening.

melle mel had no point. the artist he tried to call out already do it and have done it.

artists all over already do it and have done it in hip hop

from bringing them out on stage to having them do features on songs to making records paying homage to their influence over them

so he needs to stfu

again. they already do that shit lol just admit you were wrong you had no basis to get on the high horse

hip hop artists regularly show love to the older ones THAT INFLUENCED THEM

Shit Kendrick did an "interview" with Tupac and pretty much dedicated his album to him. That's what Tupac impact on Kendrick drove him to do.

Evidently, Melle Mel didn't have that same impact on Kendrick or anybody else that's hot right now.

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Getting one of the legend s/ pioneer's just to do the hook on one of your tracks is what I think he really means.

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Sounds to me like he's just looking for a handout.......but what do I know:dunno:

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Bottomline, all these artist name Kane, Rakim, etc as their favorites but why not do a track with them

Ross put G Rap n Erick Sermon on a few mixtapes n was on their projects so props to that man

These artists thats poppin don't do that shit so if the white boy did it then props to him cause it's obvious these Blk mfers not so stop the hate

Re: Melle Mel Calls Out Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole For Not Connecting To Hip Hop

Does he not get that he was used as a "cosigner" to macklemore's "street creed"?

Uhh no. Caclamore had a hit song with Schoolboy Q. Most people these days have no fucking idea who any of them old niggas are. He don't need them for any cred. My wife's home girl was over during the awards and was like who the fuck are them old men? She's 29.
