MC Ren Slams N.W.A 'Straight Outta Compton' Movie Trailers: 'How the Hell You Leave Me Out?'

MC Ren took to social media to express his frustration with Universal Pictures for not depicting him in the Straight Outta Compton movie trailers.

“Man f--- these bitches at universal pictures leaving me out the movie trailers tryin to rewrite history,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

The string of honest tweets are valid. Ren — who is played by Adis Hodge in the film — was a member of N.W.A along with Ice Cube, the late Eazy-E, DJ Yella andDr. Dre. Unfortunately, the trailers don’t include an appearance by Neil Brown Jr. (who plays Yella), either.

MC Ren is scheduled to reunite with Ice Cube and DJ Yella to perform N.W.A classics at the BET Experience on June 27. Straight Outta Compton, co-produced by Dre and Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, will debut in theaters on August 14.

Oh you know they're going to leave the less popular members out(Yella and Ren) while making it essentially about Cube and Dre, with some Eazy

I don't know what to expect with the movie. I mean, if you're in to rap, don't you know their story? It's different from Ray which was for a different generation.

Like I said, he was marketed horribly.

This EP was hot and a full Dre produced album should have followed within months.

I guess the Chronic was more important than helping your homie.

She was in Black Tail magazine? I wanna see the pics too then. Ren was always one of my personal favorites, but this comes as no surprise. I'd be surprised if casual rap fans or anyone under 30 knew who he was. He never achieved a big level of commercial success.

I'm divided about this. As long as he got his due in the movie, he should be cool. There's going to be main characters. But at the same time he was instrumental in the group's success. So I understand the frustration.

It's 2015. A lot of these young rap fans don't know jack shit about NWA. Same way you feel Ray was a different generation the same thing applies to them when it comes to NWA.

Would George Harrison or Ringo get as much play as John and Paul in a Beatles movie?

This shit is par for the course and logic and would hold true with any popular group. There are always members who will be more popular and known. I can see why he is mad but I don't think its a valid point overall. They may be equal in contribution but they aren't in popularity. With a movie to sell I doubt anyone wants to see a half an hour of MC Ren

In an hour and a half or so of movie with five people to cover I wouldn't want them to waste time on the lesser known members, it doesn't make sense.

In reality Ren is just as important a member to the group as Dre, Cube, or Eazy but he's nowhere near the icon or as popular as each of those are individually with or without the group.
