Kevin should have left that alone....or responded another way
foh, so Kev is suppose to let some fake ass critique with some followers say shit and not respond? sometimes you got to smack a bitch up to remind them they are bitches that need and will be slapped for being a bitch. TR could have kept his comments to himself but wanted that smoke and Kev gave it to him. Kev can't respond to every critic but sometimes you got to clap back to let the people know you still a real one!

Man yall cats got some fakeness with yall. Peep the threads about Chris Rock, Chappell, Deon, etc and you will see similar comments. Every comic aint your cup of tea, hence they are not funny to you, no different that not all music & musicians you are gonna feel, hence they music is wack to you. If you don't like KH comedy, keep shit moving.

There’s nothing “Fake” about not laughing at something and voicing your opinion. When something is very popular, there’ll be many who’ll check it out to see what the hype’s about. If they’re not satisfied with their experience and don’t feel the same way as those who hyped it up, then those people are more likely to voice their opinion and it’ll most likely be negative.

Yeah i get all that but when i say fake i'm talking about the fakeness in KH ain't been holding it down. Very few comedians in this modern age can compete with their younger selves. Dave Chappelle can't, chris rock can't, Deon cole can't, Martin, Steve, DL can't Even Richard Pryor could not. My point is, when your hungry you go harder than when you are enjoying the trapping of you success. It's hard to be funny when people are expecting you to come with that rawness when they know you ain't in the same space. Case in point. Eddie Murphy Delirious and Raw. EM was in two different spaces and admitted over and over again. Delirious was funny and edgy, Raw, was more polished and about his experienced post delirious. for all the talk of Eddie, he only did two filmed comedy specials.

Trust me I hear you! But with comedy, you’re generally expected to get better the older you get. Eddie excluded because he hasn’t done it in 30+ years.

I guess it all depends on the comedian because many would say Dave’s getting better with age. But he’s not the same as the others .

Another factor is the older people get, what they find funny changes. There’s so many factors with what people find funny and as always, comedy’s subjective.

Kevin and his people came up with that special and they think it’s funny, and some fans don’t. It happens. :dunno:

Again, a lot of it has to do with popularity. Seinfeld got paid 20+ million dollars for his Netflix special. He’s one of the top\highest paid comedians in the world. If many looked at the special to see what the hype’s about, some maybe disappointed.

I don’t want to give kev a pass but he’s 40+ with kids and a wife amd yes we know black comedians have to water it down to expand but why aren’t white comedians held to that same standard? I mean look at Joey Diaz amd Bill burr amd even joe Rohan, when joe is with Diaz in his podcast they say some foul stuff.

blacl comedians usuallly draw content from struggle amd racial relations so why do people expect them to level up financially amd still act like they first started?
Leveling was funny when he did that shaq special years back but he can’t joke like that anymore. I kinda feel people treat him unfairly.
We know if a kid gets killed by cops they ask all of rich black America their opinion and I think that’s not fair within itself.

how come berry seinfield is allowed to go from comedy to hanging with the presidents same with jay leno but blacl comedians are held to a different standard.

maybe I’m not well educated on comedy so someone chime in amd tell me what I’m saying wrong.

thanks

From what I’ve seen from Kevin he talks about his life and not Black or social issues. I didn’t see him changing that up, also most probably don’t want to hear that from him because that’s it his comedic voice.

He talks about the same stuff he’s always talked about in my opinion.

Goddamn. :lol:Is there anybody who made it to the end or watched it twice?

I watched the whole thing to make sure I gave it a chance. I chuckled once but didn’t laugh. I don’t laugh at a lot of stuff so don’t judge it based off of me.

The other day I also went to watch the Jerry Seinfeld special from earlier this year. I didn’t laugh either but I got his comedic angle.

every time Kevin TRIES to do the social stuff?

He gets killed he can't take criticism or controversy

He is not comfortable with it

its out of his depth

he can't improv it or even flip it on some absurd edge

To me that puts you in a SPECIFIC category of comic.

He in superficial funny country.

which is FINE

I don;t want yo saying the n word cursing lame white vblack jones etc

and you aint got to be George Carlin

but notice even Eddie and Cosby could flip stuff by using their OWN experiences to address social stuff

just off them being so damn SMART and talented.

Ellen gets real even comics I don;t really RELATE too like Eddie Izzard are FUNNY and honest in their OWN truth.

I don't find Mike Epps funny

but I seen some routines where he explains HIS LIFE and SUFFERING and the hood and drugs and death and racism in a way that you FEEL that sh*t

I aint NEVER FEEL nothing Kevin tried to to present.

HELL I even heard Seinfeld get raw in his OWN way about just frustration with people an success etc.

Sinbad too

its amazing that Kevin has been able to be THIS successful without that element of realness

AGAIN that is FINE

I do NOT want or EXPECT that from every comedian

but it does MEAN something

and puts you i n a certain place.

again Billy Crystal is FUNNY period

Kevin aint NEVER gonna be that.

but he will never be Bernie Pryor Patrice Rock Cosby Carlin Murphy et al

again that's fine

but honestly I feel like he is a Black Dane Cook with longevity

I wholeheartedly agree

Again, I think the criticism comes due to Kevin’s success. Due to his popularity people watch and expect to be blown away, when that doesn’t happen they complain because they don’t see why he’s so successful.

AGREED

but that's the PRICE.

Kevin is fine.

In fact to be honest the ONLY thing that he has done that I think was VERY VERY funny consistently?

BET Hollywood Husbands

and did not get its proper shine.

Kevin is humorous and comfortable in his own skin and won't stop.. that s rare talent too

He is VERY Robin Williams like that but just not as talented overall

Again if Dane Cook can be the king of comedy and Carrot top a multi millionaire etc etc

why can't Kevin?

a lot of people LOVE Tyler Perry stuff I honestly don;t get it

but damn right I RESPECT it.

Its just sad in comedy its tough for their to be MULTIPLE Black lead comedians at ONE time.

this discussion is interesting to me. Kevin Hart should be a BGOL favorite - King BGOL, if you will:
he works hard
provides opportunities for his folks

a-intellectual
hates the gay
fucks hella light-skinned bitches

(non-oligarch) rich as fuck

Definitely BGOL approved.

Meh, he's not that funny. But his standup is still funnier than the standup of an overrated comedian with a nasally voice who only became famous because he made it cool for white people to laugh at negative stereotypes of black people.

I love this thread, because as a standup comic myself I understand where y'all coming from. I do feel like people expect every black comic to talk about social issues and it's just not that way. Kevin is a corporate entity to me. Extremely funny in his own way, but he won't venture in to the lane of real hardcore shit. It's just not him and that is fine. But that man pre-covid can fill a 60k seat stadium and there's not too many comics that can do that.

It's like music. Some days I want to listen to introspective deep shit and some days I want to hear strip club music. Doesn't make one better than the other. If you want deep shit, listen to Chappelle.

White comics never really get killed for not being "deep" or socially conscious. I see it all the time coming up in NYC and the things that are put out on Netflix.

Another thing I will give K Hart is that he has given many black comics an opportunity to get love thru Comedy Central with his "Hart of the City" and to me that's big. I know a few comics that he gave a shot to.

His rise was a combination of him being safe/short, family oriented and being funny as fuck a decade ago. Plus i think Katt kinda fumbled the rock. Rock was chilling, Chappelle was chilling. We can't knock his work ethic at all.

I get kinda irritated when people use the word “Safe” when referring to his comedy. The man talked about his kids catching him fucking, spitting on his wife after watching porn, giving his wife good dick once a month women who suck dick at 7am.

Just because he’s not talking about “The Man”, that doesn’t make his comedy “Safe”. I didn’t watch all of his standups in the past but ain’t he talking about the same shit he always did?

If so, I never heard anyone label him “Safe” back then?

It is, you may not want to think his comedy is safe.... but it is. He's so likeable/small/safe that you laugh. Kevin is non threatening on stage and his entire act is based on being a husband/father. It works for him and I've always been a fan of his work because he stays in his lane.

I never said talking about "The Man" makes you not safe. Kevin isn't an edgy comic because even when he gets deep.... It's still silly. Cheating on his wife, his daughter possibly being a hoe, his stupid son.

Look at Chris Rock's last special. When he talked about cheating on his ex wife and being addicted to porn.... That shit was a little uncomfortable because it came off extremely real.

I guess my definition of “Safe” is different. But yes his comedy is non-threatening. When I think safe, I’m thinking some Disney clean shit. I guess that’s my mistake.

And you said Chris Rock talking about cheating and being addicted to porn came off as extremely “Real”. Well when Kevin talks about cheating it Is Extremely Real! :roflmao:
