Report: Bulls taking trade calls on Gasol, Noah, Gibson, seek wing player

Under new coach Fred Hoiberg, the Chicago Bulls have only shown flashes of being one of the better teams in the East. At 15-11, the Bulls are underperforming, possibly dealing with chemistry issues and are even questioning their identity. And now they may be trying to make some drastic roster changes.

According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls seeking an upgrade on the wing and are considering trading either Taj Gibson orJoakim Noah.

From Wojnarowski's podcast (his quote below was transcribed by BlogABull):

"Executives around the league, and people have told me, that the Bulls are very determined to add a talented wing player… and I’ve been told that the Bulls are open to ... whether it's Joakim Noah,Taj Gibson ... maybe not both of them, but either of them if there's a deal out there that they can bring in the best possible wing player available, they're open to it… They need more shooting."

Wojnarowski said this before Noah got injured but Joe Crowley of the Chicago Sun-Times confirmed the report on Wednesday and also added that the Bulls are taking trade calls on Pau Gasol:

The likes of Gibson, Noah and Gasol might not even see the end of their current contracts, as several sources indicated that the Bulls are taking calls on all three players as the trade deadline draws near.

Chicago does have a glut of forwards with Gibson, Noah, Gasol, Bobby Portis andNikola Mirotic. Portis has shown flashes of being a solid player and although Mirotic has struggled this season, he could be a good fit for Hoiberg's uptempo offense. But does that make Gasol, Noah and Gibson expendable now?

Noah is a free agent at the end of the season and Gasol could opt out of his contract, so the Bulls may be trying to get some value on both players now, just in case they leave in the summer. The same could be said for Gibson, who will be a free-agent in the summer of 2017.

If the Bulls trade any of the three, Gibson and Gasol may be the best options as Chicago could get better value from those two. Noah's value on the other hand, may be at an all-time low. He is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career and, at 30, Noah's best years may already be behind him.

However, the Bulls do need a wing player that will pair well with Jimmy Butler, who they are committed to building around after signing him to max contract last summer. The injury to Mike Dunleavy has truly hurt the Bulls as they are relying on Tony Snell and Doug McDermott, two players that have underperformed.

These are of course just reports and the Bulls may not end up doing anything. However, the Bulls do need a wing player and they could possibly be one of the more active teams before February's trade deadline.

I'd put D Rose on the block, but nobody's gonna take him now. He's like a De Lorean now. All nice looking and everything, until you realize that it only has 170 horsepower.

Why not??? See what you can get. The Bulls have no one but Jimmy people actually want. Noahs contract is done after this year, Paos gonna opt out after the season, Tajs is done after next year. The window is closed and its time to rebuild. A decent wing opposite Jimmy is needed, Portis is the future 4, a solid 5 isnt tough to get, and youre stuck with Rose until after next season. Rose going down has handcuffed the Bulls and this is the only trade they can really make. I dont see why this is funny really??? they went for it, it didnt work, now clean house. It happens... Allot... But you can either blow it up, or do what Dallas does every offseason and fight to stay mediocre...

Agreed

Butler is overrated

But Lmaooo yeah bulls need to blow that shit up..

I'd take Noah to back up Whiteside or Pau... Both fit what the Heat are doing..

Mix and match Bosh and Pau.. Whiteside go out Put Pau at the 5 and run a high post set.

Shit that would be a great fix..or better yet trade Gibson and Gasol for whiteside & ?????

Then the Cavs could trade Andy and Haywood trade exception to Nola for Ryan Anderson....

The East would shake up at the top

Same problem we've had for the last 4-5 seasons, we need somebody to put points on the goddamn scoreboard.

Noah's and Rose's decline really fucked us over. And Dougie can't develop fast enough,

I don't know who we can get, but we need somebody.

Didn't mean for it to look like that...

The Cavs could pull this move no matter what the Bulls do.
Now if you would've said the Heat then I could understand.

Ryan Anderson but y'all have his type already.

See if the Kings would move Rudy Gay

@Mask that's not a bad trade.. Gibson and Pau for Whiteside?

Shit make it happen,, we can't keep Whiteside unless he takes a 1 yr deal and then resign under the new cap

2011 was the best shot with Rose, Boozer, Noah, and Deng......when that didn't pan out that was the end of the window; we as Bulls fans are just now realizing it.....it's slightly cracked now but I don't know if this team could beat Detroit in a best of 7, let alone Cleveland.

Garpax are the dumbest GM's I ever seen

Blow it the fuck up!!!!!

We shoulda been tanking years ago

All these great players coming out the draft and they trade 2 firsts and 3 seconds for Doug fucking McDermott

Then out of all the duke players to actually get, they don't get the best one in Winslow

Team Rose is furious

We gonna make a trade for Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson :puke:

How u a NBA coach and u claiming u need players for YOUR system.

This is the 2nd time we hired a stupid ass iowa state coach who won nothing

At least get Donovan or Coach K if u wanna go that route.

Oh well, at least I get to see another 10 years and "organization win championships not players" speech rehashed again.

"We like our players"

Fuck give Snell more run

Snell has been terrible. They've wanted someone to step up and take that SF spot since Mikes been out, but nutter Snell or Doug has made enough progress to warrant them starting. Snell is just a guy at this point. We were told he was a good defender, with athleticism, who could step out a hit the 3... He isnt... Any of that. Just an avg NBA player. Doug can shoot, and shows some flashes of being a decent scoring option, but he can't guard anyone at the SF position, so you can't have him out there as a starter because no one but Jimmy can actually guard their man. It's a cluster fuck at the 3 spot.

I wouldn't say he's overrated, he is what he is. A good number 2. The issue is that because Roses heart pumps koolaid Jimmy has to be the number 1 and it's obvious he's not ready for primetime. But the Bulls had to pay him. Can you imagine how much worse this is if Jimmy isn't there???

We have no 2 guard

That's still the main fucking issue

We tried to get Mayo for years.

Then u get rid of Deng and that woulda solved all problems

Pooh
Jimmy
Deng
Pau
Noah

We woulda been decent

But Lu wasn't going to resign. They gave him an offer and he said no. After that, you had to get something for him. Shit was like when Ben Gordon turned down that 5-55 deal, then ended up signing the same shit with Detroit. Lu thought he was worth more than 11 a season. I have no issues not over paying older, borderline players. But they had to bring Jimmy back.

Yep, may as well get something before you end up with nothing. GM's should be next on the chopping block. Very frustrating because the team has been right in position to conquer the east but bad GM decisions didn't take it over the top. Oh yeah, Snell is not progressing.

I rather keep Deng at a high than trout out this snell and McDermott bullshit

Exactly! No one is gonna touch Rose, he still got one more year of 20 plus million. If that contract was expiring then other teams would do it but 1 more year left, they stuck with him. They have to blow it up and start over, since Rose got hurt that pretty much ended their chance of competing for a championship.

I'm about to solve a few things

Since they want to trade these cats I'll do that...

Trade with Nola for:
Asik ,Cole & Gee

For

Noah & Gibson

Move Jimmy back to SF

Cole, Brooks
Rose, Kirk, Snell
Butler, McDermott
Mirotic, Portis
Gasol, Asik

Taj, Noah, and a draft pic for Evans and Asik. Trade either Doug or Snell for another pic to someone else.

Rose-Brooks-Moore
Butler/Evans depending on match up-Kirk
Evans/Butler-whichever SF is left
Portis-Nico
Pau-Asik
