Lenny Kravitz :"To this day I have not been invited to a BET or Source awards thing !"

Where the hell is my BET Award?!!

Non-traditional? It's a shame that Black Rock musicians aren't included when Black folk invented Rock and Roll music.
Gil Scott Heron was just inducted into the Hall of Fame. Look at the avalanche of colored acts in the Covid era.

Len, is a coon. If he’s mad white people didn't like him, he should look in the mirror. His daughter is a coon.

Black ppl always supported Lenny Kravitz

He absolutely could have at any point shown up and been escorted
Or performed
Or anything
He’s a mid act from the 90s with barely any hits in the aughts. And if we gonna be honest: q tip pulled white bitches than him. He was even mediocre in ugly white women from the 90s.

He’s mad he sold out for nothing. But his mama a sellout too and we don’t even know who she is. How you gonna appeal to the culture that popularized chickens coming home to roost and make American Woman?

Y'all missing the elephant in the room...black folks in America...by and large are myopic and short termed. Not all...but the vast majority...and right now...niggas are winning

Correction...50 cents, Jay Z and most of your favorite rappers are coons

Dude kind of making shit up.

As for the nods he's garnered from Black organizations, the singer/actor received a single nomination from the BET Soul Train Awards back in 2018 for the Soul Train certified award and has earned nods for his accomplishments in film.

According to IMDb, he was nominated by the NAACP Image Awards for outstanding supporting actor in a motion picture in 2010 and 2013 for Precious and The Hunger Games, respectively, and twice by the Black Reel Awards (including best supporting actor for Precious in 2010 and outstanding song for The Butler’s "You and I Ain't No More" in 2014).

I guess the noms got lost in the mail.

Says who...?
I'm curious, what specifically defines him as not being Black?
:puzzled:

"Black adjacent"...?
What exactly does that mean?
Is it due to his music choices? His life style? Or his viewpoints?
Because I personally have always placed him in the same classification as these brothers here:

:dunno:
They do it themselves but not showing up to nothing black before but now you're talking about not getting an invite; The majority of these artist only did anything black like an award show is because THEY NEEDED THE SUPPORT FROM ALL OF THE BACKLASH THAT WAS FOLLOWING THEM.

Prince just wanted to be an artist but did questionable shit like cosmetic surgery and blurring that line of male/female.He didn't want to be Prince, black prince an artist he just wanted to be a symbol,an act, anything besides black.

Let's not act like these artist don't love them white loyal fans and I said all of that because I don't want any of them to hang with Diddy or shake hands with 50 but but but MJ had to do that with Jay-z cause them white fans, jews, mafia media was having a witch hunt for him but after all of the jokes subsided we still loved MJ and still do,Off The Wall and the Jackson5 is forever.

Sorry bro, but you're wrong as hell on Prince.
Prince wanted to shake the STIGMA of being a "black" artist. He was shooting for the Jimi Hendrix kind of respect. Most people don't refer to Jimi as a great "black" guitarist; they call him a GREAT guitarist. Some even say greatest. You can pick pretty much any era when Prince was doing his thing and listen to an interview. He never denied his blackness. He just didn't like boxes. He wanted to be known as great without the prefixes. Prefixes and hyphenated titles are code speak. It means you're good "for a _______".

Lenny has been "harassed" by the police before. (in the way that they harass black men - aka roughed up). So-called case of mistaken identity. It was a known story back when it happened. Its somewhere in the BGOL archives, pre 2014. He shook it off but he let them know that he knew what it was.
Unlike mixed females, most mixed dudes don't usually get a pass from white men, especially when they have locks or an afro. The thing is, Lenny is not just and R&B artist and sometimes our community acts very "anti" to veering outside of the norm. Rock and roll is BLACK. No shame in representing ALL of our music; not just R&B, hip-hop and gospel.

*Sigh*
My friend, I can't even begin to unpack how just how wrong this mindset you subscribe to is...:smh:
But I'll just say this:
- Blackness isn't measured by "not showing up to nothing Black".
You have absolutely NO IDEA what Black themed issues Lenny Kratiz has or has not participated in, supported or "shown up" to. For all we know, Kravitz might be the type of dude who privately donates to or finances Black organizations and doesn't seek nor wants public recognition for it.

- Prince was more than just being an artist. Much, much more. He was an brilliant writer, artist, entrepreneur, a shaper of minds, and he NEVER expressed an ideology that he wasn't Black nor never wanted to be Black. And having cosmetic surgery or being seen as "androgynous" by others is not anti-Black.

- Lastly. Loving or appreciating loyal supportive fans of any race is not a bad thing. Successful actors, directors, musicians, singers, athletes and performers acknowledge this. For Kravitz to embrace his White fans is just as important as him embracing his Black fans. He would be embracing part of the demographc that made him a successful artist and celebrity. There's nothing wrong with this.

...does he want to be invited??? Those things were dangerous when I was younger, now I can't understand what these motherfcukers is saying and the littlest motherfcukers be the most dangerous in a crew!

No they haven’t. I am friends with the lead singer (Corey Glover) and they’ve never been asked to play on BET. At this point I don’t think they even care anymore.
Who runs the music biz? You really think these niggas are in control?

he ain't wrong but at the same time has he reached out to any of them? i like a lot of his music but it doesn't fit into any soul train or bet awards show categories. if he reached out i'd think they'd be honored for him to perform hell might even give him a honorary award or make a category for his musical contributions

but lets not act like the black community is super open to supporting black acts that arent R&B and rap.

Hell BB KING complained how he was disappointed to look out to the audience and see its mostly white and this was back in the 60s.
You do know that racism and segregation were legal until the 70s right? So if BB was disappointed in his audience it wasn't aimed at the Black people.

Blame busta rhymes for never releasing this single so that Lenny could get that hip hop crossover hit

He should blame his own people. Lenny s management might have pushed for the song not to be released as to not ruin his rock image.

Unless Busta requested it off the album, it should have stayed on.

I could’ve sworn this song was on heavy BET rotation. Maybe he wants to hang with artists he never gets to see.

Nas and Wutang were in Atlantic City a few months back. The audience was 60/40 European.

Wutang has a lot of white fans. A lot. I seen a bunch of little white girls at a damn Nas concert.

We can talk about that, or we can talk about the lack of not only black financial institutions but black leisure spaces. Where are the black hotels? It doesn’t have to be a 4000 room joint. Can we have a black 35-75 room space?
