Just saw Django [MERGED~> !SPOILER ALERT!]

Re: Just saw django

Actually it was good......but n word was used a lot

They have been showing Roots on BET.

I don't understand why some think that using the word on a period piece is unusual or wrong.

This is a time when white folks didn't call blacks by their names. They called them boy ****** or whatever the fuck they wanted to.

Now if the movie was set in 2011 and the word was used as liberally i would agree with the uproar

Re: Just Got Back from Seeing Django Unchained...

here one of the big issues for me on whether I'll pay to see it..

is the white dude django's mentor type...meaning the only way he could this is with the white man's help or is django independent?

Re: Just Got Back from Seeing Django Unchained...

Added some clarification to the OP since I was getting PM's about it..

I don't get why people are angry about the movie as if that's not how white people talked to and about black people at the time?

He's dependent and green thought-out the beginning of the film, comes into his own mid 2nd Act, and goes out for a solo rampage in the 3rd Act. Can't explain how or why without spoiling it.

Real talk.

A time when white men raped black women, beat and lynched black men and stole their children and these guys act like they wouldn't have called them N*gger...? C'mon...
Back then Presidents and news paper editors were talking about "*******, etc..."

That would be a natural progression considering Django was born into slavery. For that cat to come out in the first act "knowing the lay of the land" would seem rushed at best and disingenuous at worst.

hmm... you don't think Hollywood fund and supported (all star ensemble cast) the movie cause they could drop those n-bombs without fear do you?

Think on it... you got 'black' folks on one hand who gonna go cause they see a black face on the screen and don't care if the brother wearing a dress, killin, drug dealin, or licking boots... and white folks who gonna go cause they get to OPENLY enjoy the good old days when a n***** was n****** .... and they knew they place??

They can't be that smart can they?? :hmm:

Was the script that was leaked on the internet pretty accurate?

I think Hollywood supported it because it would make money.

Like I said in another post there really hasn't been a movie like this since Buck and The Preacher.

And as far as knowing their place from the sounds of it this movie just as Buck and The Preacher didn't portray a ****** that knew his place.

I think its a shame that black people don't support black films that would have allowed this story to be made by a black director.

That blacks don't use their resources to fund important stories and leave them up to white folks to make if they are made at all.

and hitler getting killed in a movie theater that didn't have security up the wazoo was totally believable  if we're talking fiction then its fiction.

You right ignant muthafucka. Y'all the kind of muhfuckas who take a test without even reading the book first.

Niccas commenting on shit they haven't even seen AND IT IS OBVIOUS. I haven't really commented cause I don't drop spoilers, but Django didn't know his place from after the first ten minutes of the movie. That's all I'm gonna say.

Some of y'all are already so married to your positions on this movie that you couldn't Chang your position if you wanted to. Simpletons!

The use of the N word is excessive. Plus it is hard to understand why a white director continues to use the word so excessively.

It is understandable that the N word was used during those times but it could have been restricted to only a few lines and most would have got the point.

I'm talking about the progression of the protagonist within the universe the story is built. It would make no sense that the protagonist would go from a slave who doesn't know his left from his right to a tactical weapons expert within 30 minutes if the story was built around the progression and ultimate redemption of said character....

That being said I have no clue what the fuck you are talking about. Sounds like you bitching just to bitch.:hmm:

Re: Just Got Back from Seeing Django Unchained...

I just got back from the movie. I was impressed with what I saw. I've been having a crush on Kerry Washington since the show Scandal and damn she was fine in the movie. The movie showed/talked a lot about what it was like in those days. I have no idea how we made it out from those times. The word n....er was used a lot could of been a little less. Samuel Jackson fucking stole the movie with his character. That nigga was evil as hell!!!

Re: Just Got Back from Seeing Django Unchained...

Where can I get a torrent? I'll give it a look but I'm not paying.

That nigga was evil as hell!!!

Not surprising that they would demonize the black man even in a movie about slavery. I wouldn't doubt they found a way to make the white man appear to be a hero also. I haven't see the movie yet so I shouldn't begin too assume to much...

Watch the fucking movie before you make these wild assumptions. Also Samuels character was truthful to someone who would have that role in slavery times.

Re: Just Got Back from Seeing Django Unchained...

I wouldn't call them wild but they are assumptions.

I suppose you've never heard of the house negro ? Samuels character is still common today. That brother you have to watch out for at work.

Of course I'm aware of what a 'house negro' was/is. I wasn't saying that the character was out of place in the movie and served no purpose.

And I'm not here to go back and forth with you, help me find a torrent...
