any work out heads jump rope for cardio? if so about how long do you jump to burn a good amount of calories? and do you mix up the jump routine with any other exercises? I'm looking to expand my cardio routine beyond just running.

Best cardio out there. I dont even use cardio machines. Just jump rope during the 20-30 second between sets and you'll be good to go after an hour workout!

Its one of the best and most effective forms of cardio.
Try to get a thai style jump rope and not those thin speed ropes. It will work the crap out of your shoulders and forearms.
Good stuff, or your money back.

 Yessir

i just started trying to mix jumping rope into my cardio and only went about 10 mins before I was winded.

I mix it in, but Im lazy with it. 3 sets of about 50 once a week.

But I agree, it's worth doing..

Jump roping will wear u down quickly.. Forwards An backwards I go from time to time.. Excellent cardio agreed ..

yes its GREAT for cardio! That's why boxers have been doing it FOREVER

do 2 - 3 minute rounds to start, and go from there.

if you are not getting your heart rate into the target range any form of exercise you do is a waste. I see people leave the gym all the time without a drop of sweat... i mean what is the purpose of doing that:confused::confused::confused:

you want a good cardio workout try this

just to clarify, jumping rope won't really help you lose weight,,, it is a good tool for building coordination & can help you tone up if you are already in fairly good shape

^ its cardio homie ....it will if you push

I wish i had higher ceilings slim

id be a rope jumpin mofo

all of my bags are outside i have no indoor cardio routine :smh:

I always wondered why one can't just do the jump rope routine without the actual rope. And still include the hand movements, its still the same thing, just without tripping yourself up every 15 seconds.

Not true, if done correctly you can absolutely jump rope to lose weight. You just have to do it at the right intensity for you to see that benefit.

i used to try but its no where near the same for some reason

just like an invisible speed bag...shit is wack :smh:

I guess you are missing the resistance :dunno:

7/8 bucks at walmart will get you a nice rope..Shit is great form of cardio and better than jogging according to the experts. I need to get back on jumping rope was building good stamina this winter with jumping rope

meaning there are better cardio options if your primary goal is to lose weight

Not necessarily. You can sit on a bike and pedal but if you do not push yourself you won't see any results. Same thing for treadmill, jogging, or any other cardio exercise for that matter. Its not just about the exercise, it is about how hard you are working with the exercise (intensity). So why couldn't the same thing apply to jump roping?

Exactly

I fucking hate jump roping....its hard to do if u got boobs lol

Its part of my work out tho....I jump rope before I do anything.....3 rounds...2mins each

Then ill get on the speed bag...heavy bag...then double ended bag...then depending on coach I may do some core work or more cardio

They do sell the weighted jump ropes that you can use. Simulates jumping rope without the ropes

What's a good routine?
For a beginner just do about 20 mins, jump rope then when you get tired stop and catch your breath then go again. Your heart rate will still stay up and as you get more conditioned over time and skip longer and add variety like double unders. I do push ups and mountainclimbers when I mess up on a jump. And jumping rope will help you shread fat and get toned. Its one of the best ways to shed fat and get toned

mannnn i was out there for about 15 minutes, after doing my push ups and elastic band shit routine....that was serious

cardio is what is says cardiovascular endurance... it is not an effective tool for weight loss. i wish people would stop saying cardio is for weight loss.

After swimming (if i knew how to swim).......jumping rope would be the next best hardcore/full body aerobic workout imho.

Should you jump rope for exercise? only if your heart can tolerate it. Dont know if anyone has mentioned this....but jumping rope is taxing on your heart....mainly if youre not used to that type of workout. It will get your heart pumper faster than a mofo. When I was a noob & I tried to jump rope for long periods of time....I didnt breath properly. My blood was circulating like a mofo....but the amount of oxygen that I was taking in wasnt satisfying that rapid blood flow. Started feeling tightness around my head......got dizzy..passed out...had to go to the ER. Hence...dont do things like jump rope like a boxer or do HIIT routines unless you know what youre doing. Its takes time to get used too if youre not used to working out hardcore.

if you do jump rope for an aerobic exercise...then the best rope to use is a speed rope.
