Kaitlyn Dever Up For Playing DC’s Batgirl, Won’t Deny Casting Rumors
Kaitlyn Dever, known for her lead performances in Booksmart and Netflix’s Unbelievable, won’t deny rumors which link her to the role of Batgirl.

Kaitlyn Dever says she’d be up for playing DC’s Batgirl, not denying casting rumors that link her to the role. Introduced in 1961 by Bill Finger and Sheldon Moldoff, the character was replaced a few short years later by Barbara Gordon who would soon take up the seminal superhero mantle. Across television and film, Batgirl has been a part of many different projects over the decades. She was first portrayed by Yvonne Craig for ABC’s television adaptation of Batman. More recently, a version of the character appeared in the final season of Gotham. In the animated realm, Batgirl has been voiced by the likes of Rosario Dawson and Rachel Bloom. Most famously perhaps, Alicia Silverstone played Batgirl as Alfred Pennyworth’s niece in 1997’s Batman & Robin.

Now that a standalone Batgirl movie is in the works, reportedly having a tie-in with Matt Reeves’ The Batman, there has been plenty of speculation as to which performer might step into the role. Dever, known for her lead performances in Netflix’s Unbelievable and Booksmart, as well as long-running arcs on Justified and Last Man Standing, is one of the actresses championed by fans for the high-profile gig. Several eagle-eyed devotees have even noticed that Dever has been interacting on social media with Reeves and The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin, taking that as a sign that the actress is in consider for the highly-anticipated film starring Robert Pattinson. Asked about the rumors prior to Sunday’s Academy Awards, Dever had ample opportunity to shoot down the rumors that have built up. She didn’t quite go that far.

On the red carpet, Variety questioned Dever about Batgirl. In response, the Booksmart breakout refused to deny anything. While the actress didn’t come close to confirming her involvement, seeming to suggest that she hasn’t been a part of any official talks, she expressed clear enthusiasm for the possibility of playing one of DC’s most famous personas. See Dever’s full response, including her endorsement of Robert Pattinson, in the short clip below.

Dever isn’t the only notable name with hopes of being Batgirl. Karen Gillan, known for playing Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressed interest in both directing and starring in a Batgirl movie. It is, of course, understandable why Dever and Gillan would want to have a leading role in a comic book franchise. In addition to the obvious financial incentives, it’s the kind of project which has the potential to alter careers and open up new creative opportunities.

With Batgirl, there’s an added significance. In development for years, with Joss Whedon attached as director at one point, there might be a bit of professional pride involved in headlining the production and getting it right. For fans of a character that debuted so long ago, that’s certainly the hope.

This is gonna be a fuckin disaster. :hithead:

Pretty much. Unless...they pull out all the stops and go for sex, sex, and more sex. I don't know if the Dever chick can pull it off.
That's her in the middle.

Batgirl's sole purpose is to provide eye-candy and sexual situations or innuendo. Same as Wonder Woman's original purpose was BDSM. I know people say the first WW was wildly successful but the movie itself was ass. Mainly because gadot can't act and has no figure whatsoever.
The first Batgirl - Yvonne Craig - was sexy af in that catsuit. And had a decent (dancers) body for a white girl (see: Star Trek). The second Batgirl - Alicia Silverstone - had no figure to speak of plus they put her in a deepsea diver costume. You couldn't see any type of shape.
So Batgirl has to be sexy and have at least a figure you can see. Not be a flagpole like gadot or have her body hidden like they did to Silverstone.

EXCLUSIVE: Brendan Fraser is set to join Leslie Grace in Warner Bros and DC Films’ Batgirl. Although not confirmed, sources believe Fraser would play the supervillain Firefly in the pic. Jacob Scipio also recently joined the cast, with Grace on board to play Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are helming.
The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. Christina Hodson penned the script with Kristin Burr producing.
While plot details are under wraps, it is known that Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, will be the character behind the cape in this version. Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

Fraser, the former Mummy star, has had quite the resurgence in 2021 that began with landing the lead role in Darren Aronofsky’s next film The Whale. After wrapping production on that, Martin Scorsese cast him for a key role in his next film Killers of the Flower Moon, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. He was also recently seen in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move.
Fraser is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Actress’ ethnicity explored

  • Leslie Grace is Afro-Latina, more specifically she is Dominican-American.

She was born to Dominican parents who lived in New York’s, The Bronx. Despite being born in the city, the (future) Batgirl was raised in Davie, Florida.

Since her school days, Leslie participated in musicals and talent shows, which explains her decision to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

The 26-year-old actress grew up with five older siblings. Thanks to her Latino heritage Grace is multilingual. She speaks both English and Spanish.

Her mother reportedly currently runs a hair salon in Florida.

Supposedly The Flash movie will act as the reset button(i.e Keaton replacing Affleck possibly,Gal Gadot may be out after WW3 etc)
How can they reset something that was never set in the first place? Oh well, carry on.
Nope, Ben is still in. He mentioned this in a recent interview. I will find and share shortly. Gal........that's another story. But at least Henry is still in as well.

Also, both Ben and Keaton are in Flash. No resetting. Just sharing an existing storyline of multiple universes which was already done in the Arrowverse.

I honestly believe they just need to make movies. They do not need to be in some extended universe. The Joker was great. Suicide Squad was good. The Batman will be good. Black Adam will be good.
