Joss Whedon to Direct a Standalone Batgirl Movie

Your post brings up another great point.
One can say that one of the many reasons people subscribed to HBOMax was in anticipation of "BATGIRL"?
Because as you stated, (much of) that film was already paid for via subcriptions.
And many of those subcribers are DC Comics fan anticipating DC content.

Peacemaker got good reviews and a 2nd season is planned.

Pennyworth was slowly building an audience after the change was made from it being a prequel to “Gotham” to a DCEU prequel. They cancelled it after its 3rd season.

Batgirl would have done well despite the InCells going after it.

And with Brandon Frasier winning Best Oscar, that probably would have gotten it more eyeballs to see it.

He didn't really say anything nice about it. All he said was he felt sorry for the directors and he got his money.

That's what I mean i don't think I would infer he thought the movie was sh*t

He kinda talks like this about damn near everything now a days

No, I didn't care one way or another. Big, fun, nice check,” Keaton says, rubbing his fingers together in the universal gesture for “moolah.”

He pauses for a second, then softens slightly. “I like those boys. They're nice guys.” (Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, he means.) “I pull for them. I want them to succeed, and I think they felt very badly, and that made me feel bad. Me?” he says, shrugging. “I'm good.”

Keaton is starting to get visibly agitated with this line of questioning. He tenses up, and I suddenly find myself on the disapproving end of some of cinema’s most famous eyebrows. Why does everyone want to talk about Batman all the time anyway? At the end of the day, it was a role he played, like any other. If there was one thing he really got out of it, it was this: “I'm nothing but only respectful and grateful, 100%,” Keaton says. "And proud of it actually, because I like to prove everybody wrong. It's fun for me."

My thing is this...IT IS A FINISHED MOVIE!!!!

its been filmed just edit that shit and release it in some form.

DCEU is in limbo and no one cares, minus whale put this shit out and let fans react.

I see your point. I guess he's at that age where he's hit the cynical point of his career and can now be more pragmatic about how Hollywood handles things.

I agree. I also understand WB money issues. But we seen just okay movies turn some kind of profit after a wide release, digital sales and streaming.

My gut tells me Batgirl would have done at least better than Black Adam and Blue Beetle.

Well that's the thing, before Discovery bought max, the previous owners-AT&T had it slated as a streaming exclusive. It was never meant to be released in the theater.

Damn shame. They should have just released it on Max or something. I'd rather had seen it and judged for myself then then scrap the way they did. Had to sit through all that shit on the Gotham show, Batwoman on CW, and countless other fumbles and lackluster efforts. In hindsight, there would have been nowhere to go after it since the regime change, but fuck it.

^^^^

I hear the logic about it damaging the brand when more etc etc etc...

But it really doesn't matter.

creature commandos was good not great, Aquaman was DOA, even Joker 2 flopped amd did much more damage to the brand than Batgirl could/would.

Just release it WB
