Joel Osteen is getting the treatment for not helping Harvey Survivors blocking niggas left & right

who the fuck are you that I would have to sub? lol
He called trump a good man and you made excuses for it. As much as you dick rode Hilary during the election season, you would have criticized others for doing that.

I asked what he had done. I related the last incident I was aware of from a year prior. I wondered if that comment would have been motivated by donations (not a complimentary thing to say about someone btw)

That was my only post in that thread. In order for me to be seen as defending him I'd have to have made an excuse for him, which I did not do even after someone quoted my post.

The only pastors I may have ever defended on here were Fred Price Sr and Joyce Meyer. Even with Fred Price someone posted a personal experience with a family member donating property at death and I said he has always seemed honorable to me, but personal experience will trump my perception of his character, not having met the man, every time.

When it comes to church and religion, I've always maintained that pastors are not infallible. Power corrupts, preachers are often given celebrity status, which is something I also do not agree with.

Don't confuse having the foresight to see what a clusterfuck Trump would be as riding for Hillary. If it had been Bernie who won the primary I would have been advocating to vote for him. Anyone to avoid Trump. The fact that you brought that up in a thread with nothing to do with her must mean you are one of the sorry fucks that either didn't vote or voted third party. Elections matter.

Family? What man or kids do you have?

So the only definition of family is a husband/wife or kids? SMH. You obviously have a chip on your shoulder. You aren't even making sense now. So I'm not going back and forth with you. Whatever you've got going on, I hope you work it out.

lmao. Nope that's not the only definition.
Ask white sky daddy to send you a man before you reach 60.

WHAT? Nigga please!

Problem with that chain of thought is that is not what he said.

All he had to said was..."We don't have the staff to meet the demand" and half the fucking city would have volunteered and about eight city/state/national agencies would have blown up his phone to use the place as a headquarters. He has that much pull.

He didn't say that now did he. Because IF he did THAT would have happen. All the shelters in the city are at capacity we are putting people ANYWHERE.

Now what he did say was this...

He said they were flooded...the sub basements were flooded. The sacturary- were you could house the evacuated- was dry and is elevated.

He then said 'well after everyone else is at capacity, THEN we'll open our doors' which goes against the ethos of what a church is SUPPOSE to be. They are suppose to be first.

He decided...to pray on it and call it a day.

Everyone else in the city FOUND A WAY TO HELP OUT.

Yet the church's doors are closed.

He not only fucked up but betrayed what the church is: SHELTER FROM THE STORM.

People in Houston ain't going forget that.

You on the wrong side of this one pimp.

This. There were smaller churches & mosques quick to open their doors without hesitation. Osteen knew what he was doing from the jump by laying low. He has the biggest church in the country, it would not have been difficult to get staff or volunteers. All he had to do was make a call to the mayor Saturday morning & things would have been handled. He looking at his bottom line as a hustler should. The electricity expenses alone for one full day at that church cost more than a neighborhood of houses expenses for the month.

So letting folks stay up in his church for days without dropping any tithes is fucking his bottom line. If people didn't call him out he would have continued to lay low and give out bs excuses.

I get your point, but i counter that you may not realize how far the Klan's reach is. They have sympathizers in every level of public office, obviously all the way to the Presidency. I would argue that thwir greatest influence is on the local level, where their governance affects our community on a daily basis.

Okay, the Klan was reaching but the shit is about money. A nation of athetes protesting the flag will hurt pockets enough to change. The Klan couldn't do much when we boycotted the buses in the King era.

Does he have buses? A lot of big churches do.

If people can get there to report on the doors being locked them a bus can get there.

Yeah, just open the door and let people sit. No resources, no nothing. Have strangers through your offices and shit. No security, but we should fill the mega church up, right?

It's funny, though. I just heard that they're going to open up NRG as a shelter. This is the obvious place for shelter IMO, yet I've heard no one shit on them for not opening sooner.

Echo chambers are a motherfucker though, especially when it's an easy target.

I agree he's thinking long term on that and was trying to make a business decision...which is the worst thing a church can be caught doing in a time of crisis.

The expenses could have been handled with a monetary donations page toward the effort.

"Flock, as you see some of our friends have fallen on hard times and while donations of time, food, clothing, and prayer, is needed, monetary donations would be greatly appreciated well. So give what you can at the following internet address and or physical address on your television screen now.

Remember, The Lord appreciate money that jingles, but would rather have money that folds."

He's GLOBAL the P.R. alone would've been worth it. But he saw it differently and is now paying for it.

Nigga you work for Joel? Cause you riding hard on the wrong side of this.

1. Joel has pull on a global level. So not having access to resources is a bullshit cop out. MEGA church. He could have made some calls like everyone else in the region.

2. (To the bolded) Yeah well pimp the difference is that NRG stadium does not pose itself as a "shelter from the storm" in the figurative sense to hustle up dollars.

That the funny thing about being a church...you SUPPOSE to be about the peoples business and not your own, ESPECIALLY in a time of need.

So it's great that they are opening up NRG stadium but that doesn't change the fact that Lakewood should have been open.

Shelter from the storm and all.

3. Joel stamp the target on his head, stood in the middle of a field and dared cats to shoot. No sympathy for him there.

If he was smart he would have used his resources to set up an adequate shelter pre storm. Doing that would have increased his visibility even more and also increase his membership therefore increasing his profits.

Yep he squandered a great opportunity for positive public relations. He would've increased his reputation and it would have improved his dollar flow in the future.

Hustling backwards fam.

Ethos of church is sacturary, refuge, and shelter. If I can't go anywhere else in time of trouble I can go there.

He broke that ethos and people felt betrayed.

I just said this in a another thread....

Trust, he will talk about all this in one of his sermons. He will invoke GOD, scripture, etc in what went down and happen. He will be forgiven by many, especially folks that attend his church.

IMO and I usually say, Folks including people like Joel, use church as a wall to hide behind who they truly are.

Read the twitter those pics are of the BOTTOM of the parking garage. The church sits several floors above this. This is like saying because there is water in your basement that your house is flooded.

The people on twitter killed her.
Was just about to type this. I've been to that church a few times. The parking is underground, but the actual sanctuary sits well above ground. Those two goofy white boys that were screaming JOEL into the drainage open, that's the main entrance to the church.

This dudes been one of my moms favorites for a few years.

Gonna have to put her up on him.

Honestly a lot of his allegorical stories always have happy good endings & he's always came off to me as a motivational speaker rather than pastor.

black women go to his church
Black PEOPLE go to this church.

Y'all don't understand, his father started this church in a feed store in an area that is in the hood. The church is named after the hood it was started in, Lakewood. If you from the north side as it seems i may be one of the few you know Lakewood is THE HOOD. I mean driving up to this church... imagine driving through a really scary neighborhood, potholes in the streets, crack heads on the corners, niggas loitering about, then BOOM all at once a prestine, immaculately kept property and building just pops up. That's the original Lakewood location. They bought land and turned it into a huge church that serviced that community and area for years.

The majority of the congregation then were black people because that was the neighborhood church. When they bought Compaq Center and moved there, some of its original members couldn't make that drive, but a lot did.

Like 99% of Black churches are in the hood. God flys over all the drugs, prostitution, suffering, single mom hood, and crime just to bless that 1 building.

This is where they started. It was a old neighborhood where the niggas moved to, took over and, instead of turning tail and running he stayed right there and built there.
