Jerry Jones - "Deion Could've Stopped Megatron"

See, i think this is a common misperception that the QB even matters more than incrementally. As you both said, his bread and butter was the deep ball, and accuracy isnt as important as arm strength imo. .
Most of the times that's the case because Moss was typically the fastest person on the field and he would just run a fly route and go get it. However, if you run a fly route against Deion ,things change. Because if you just throw it as far as you can and make it a foot race, Deion gets there first. Moss in his prime was not faster than Deion in his prime. So you just can heave that bitch up there knowing that either Moss gets it or no one else gets to it.

Deion was too fast and too good of a cover corner to get burn consistently by a player who ate mostly on fly routes. That's just not happening. It's too predictable and he's too fast for that. Deion got beat in the middle of the field with perfect route-running + positioning with a QB that put it on the money. That's just not Moss' skill set. He gets something here and there but he's going to be quiet for the most part against a prime Deion... there's just no way you're going to consistently beat Deion on fucking fly routes just bombing that shit 50 yards down the field... just my opinion..last reply because im just repeating myself now

Moss had the ability to just go get it no matter how far though in his prime.

Because he was just getting behind coverage and outrunning people. You aren't going to win foot-races with Deion....especially fly routes. Because Moss didn't even burn people with double-moves or anything... just straight go routes straight up the field... you gonna be in for a long night trying to eat off that on deion...even if you're randy moss.

im saying though if he's running and the ball is in the air, i think he has a good chance getting there too. a real good chance his stride was unbelievable

and we know if it was prime on him it would be 1 on 1 so no safety help etc.. i guess you would have to assume that prime could put hands on him and change his path but if its a dead sprint i like both of them to get there

damn! 3 pages primetime vs megatron matchup

shit would've been very interesting...a slight edge to calvin johnson that boy a beast
deion would've had a hard time covering him...and deion my favorite sports hero ever!

this would be a good subject on espn first take or pti

Yeah. But the success of those fly routes is based on the WR getting behind the coverage. So I'm just saying that the main reason that those plays are successful would 90 percent of the time be negated with Deion. Typically you want to give your star receiver a chance to make a play...but you're also giving the star DB a chance to make a play...who also just happened to be one of the best return men in nfl history...

If I had my choice, I would rather be throwing slants and post routes to Rice, Megatron, or Irvin with Deion defending rather than throwing fly routes with with Deion on Moss.

that's just because the few times I saw Deion get baked, it was with those kinds of routes run by great route runners...not by fly routes..and Im not underestimating Moss either

Stupid thread. Megatron is easily the best receiver ever. Moss is a clear second.

Don't you have school tomorrow cause clearly you must be to young to remember this guy who is arguably the greatest FOOTBALL PLAYER EVER.

Lol@ Deion overrated.... Man WTF??? There is no hype needed for results. Show me a corner that NEVER even went to the huddle?

Man, fuck the Lions.

The only time anyone gives half a shit about them is when either we play them or they are embarrassing themselves on Thanksgiving.

we love you too! here got a present for you

Agreed on most of what you've posted, I believe this is why Moss' career ended rather abruptly, speed goes (as well as other, younger players catching up), route running doesn't!

Greatest receiver ever, YES (as you said, definitely arguable!) but the greatest football player (and possibly greatest athlete of ALL TIME!) is right here!

I really wish Jerry Jones would STFU....

The only thing I can say is that receivers weren t Megatron size for the most part during Deion's time

I remember Jake Reed was bigger...6'3" about 215lbs.....how many receivers were as big as Megatron....

plus the rules weren't the same either...now you can barely touch a receiver....meanwhile on many of those plays Calvin was stiff arming and pushing off with no calls....

Stafford ain't accurate. He had a great game winning drive. But if you watch him weekly like I do cuz the lions are the only team I really watch you'll see him consistenty missing open receivers. Grant it we lead the league in drop balls but staffy misses his fair share of throws every game

I hate the fucking cowgirls but Jerry is right. Deion would not have got torched for 300 yards. Our guy slowed Calvin up a bit. D. Hall gave 117 yards and had an interception when we played them. I ain't putting Hall up with prime time but he would have held his own

Calvin is a big receiver. I think he would have got some catches but Deion would have got some pics. He def would not have given up 300 yards.

While I agree that Deion DEFINITELY would've covered Megatron better, people REALLY need to stop with the "He would've had an INT or a pick 6" talk, because he did do it a few times people are having revisionist history on just how many times these things happened.

Deion NEVER led the league in INTs, he never even crossed into double digits in a season his ENTIRE career, now maybe this was due to the fact that his first few seasons were split between baseball and football, but the fact remains, while he did have 9 pick 6's over his career (3 in one year, which is GREAT!) it didn't happen every time, or even every year, the MOST INTs he had in one year was 7.

I agree with u. I was never a big fan of his. I'm not a numbers guy but the three things I remember from his plays days was. He was a shut down cover guys and no one threw his way. But he hated tackling. He was not an interception guy. Jmo
