Good read......last year i deleted all the porn and pics off my computer...I finally broke down cause I couldn't partition my drive and keep the data....I already have the shit filled again so this weekend I'm deleting all the shit again.

I think the posts/threads should have a flag on them so that the poster can specify the content that way those fancy titles will be meaningless because you will know if it's a porn post or a talkshit post or a FYI post or something like that.

So lemme get this straight, the companies are coming after not for HOSTING the content, but for letting other's put up a link to the site where the content is being hosted?

That's a bit like saying you're an accessory to the crime because someone on your board told everyone the bank vault was unlocked and the money's sitting out there in the open.

I'd send them a polite rebuttal letter saying that you do not host the content and as such, you are breaking no laws and will not interfere with the 1st admendment rights of your board members by censoring content which does not violate the bylaws of BGOL. BGOL is a private forum and we take very seriously our right to as one of the very few open and uncensored forums for adult dialogue between BLACK MEN of all ages (w/respect to BGOL).

Evil Angel, your issue is with the person(s) uploading the content itself as well as the company hosting the content and as such and complaints and/or threats should be directed to those parties and not BGOL.

If Evil Angel can find specific instances where BGOL servers stored and hosted illegal content or can identify members who specifically posted illegal content which they themselves upload, you HNIC will be more than glad to take corrective action you deem appropiate.

Not in the least. Basic "lurker-proofing" of a thread is used more widespread than the more cryptic means. I remember back before I registered (probably in 2004-05) I had figured out how to crack the LP code. I wasn't even a member, and would frequent BGOL over my cousin's house, showing him the ropes of the board I *technically* didn't belong to yet.

But onto the matter at hand, I can understand why HNIC is deleting the threads that have links to their movies... Brother is probably getting tired of getting these empty threat-filled emails from that company, same as those same few photo sites on the main board. Some People get tired of hearing the same bullshit over and over again, others don't.

Take PirateBay for example:

Those two Danish/Icelandic/whateverthefuck dudes have tons of emails from different companies from around the world -Microsoft, Buena Vista, Fox, etc- and what do they do? Since their country has no laws against what they're doing, they just laugh at all of them. They basically can't be touched, until their country puts up laws -which they don't seem to be doing any time soon.

I totally understand where you're coming from, HNIC, but you've got to ask yourself, why are they attacking you, and not the file hosting places? This forum does not host ANY of their movies on ANY of its servers. It's members simply find something, and point to the direction where whatever it is they found, is located. Your hands (and most of the forumites' hands, as well ) are completely clean in the matter. Fuck 'em.

To be honest with you guys I'm burnt out on this fight, I don't know if BGOL will survive without the stolen content or not, to me it's not worth it anymore. it IS a problem for HNIC to be a part of the acts you stated.

among other things, BGOL facilitates the activity, shares vicarious liability, and to a lesser degree contributory negligence in not monitoring links. each a separate claim in a 3 headed civil suit.

the day is long gone when webmasters can turn a blind eye towards links posted on their boards and hide behind DMCA "i didn't know".

it's been a LONG propagated fallacy and myth by people not familiar with the law that "if you don't host it, it ain't illegal". the existence of the link itself IN MANY JURISDICTIONS is enough to pursue copyright infringement.
