Maybe I have not joined everyone in 2011 with respect to technology, but what is all the buzz about this Iphone? What does it do that the Droid doesn't?

to the OP:

ignore all the talking points and fanboyism's. It simply boils down to this.

Both offer different experiences, some people find the Apple experience better than the Google one and vise versa.

If you choose the Apple experience you will notice:

Overall More Polish
- Everything from the app icons, to transitions between actions just seems to have benefited from Apple's extra attention to detail. Every animation seems to have a purpose, the OS doesn't go overboard with the eye-candy and in general just gets out of the way.

More Quality Apps
- iOS in general has substantially more apps than Android, but beyond that, the quality of most of the apps are crazy. Don't get me wrong, you'll definitely come across those useless apps (fart apps, another weather app, clocks, etc.), but as far as those " holy shit" apps... you'll find waaay more of those on iOS than you would on Android.

Longer Battery Life
- There are a few Android phones out there that are on par with the iPhone as far as battery life (not the Droid though), but in general iPhone typically has better battery life than most competitors and you don't have to do shit or manage your phone (it does a lot of that automatically).

Siri
- All smartphones have some form of voice control. But Siri shits on them because you don't have to give it commands. You just talk to your phone, it talks back, and does what you tell it (and its only gonna get better). You'd be surprised at some of the shit the phone says man.

Example:

You: "Hey Siri, I need to hide a body"

Siri: What kind of place are you looking for? reservoirs, minds, dumps, swamps?

Thats not a joke either dude, the phone actually asks you that question!

And the so-called "Polished Apps" on IOS, if the are worth anything the company will make it for both Devices. All of these are on BOTH top Paid Apps list.

Word With Friends, Angry Birds, Madden 12, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Modern Combat, Slingbox, Logmein, Kindle, Dropbox, RDP, Tunein etc..

Not true. Given the majority of the apps you listed are games, you might not be aware of whats out there (at least on iOS). However, there are tons of cases where apps are released on both platforms. But typically they are on iOS first, and if successful, they usually expand to Android (several months or even a year later).
