I never said Iphone is the only phone AT&T forces you into a data contract all smart phones are forced into a data contract but Iphone is the only phone you don't have full control over your options. Iphone also is the only phone that doesn't benefit from companies changing rates on the fly. My carrier switched blackberry plans 3 times in the last 6 months and is offering you more options apples rates are the same. I cosign. And I have seen the phones people carry. The list I made was on point with the thread, which is about Smart phones. Not average phones. So please look at the list in that context.

Apple has done an amazing job. And trust me, Apple is working on those low-end phones. Also AT&T is working up a $20 limited data plan I hear. Apple has also hinted at a new line of iPhones too.


I see continued growth for the iPhone and its offspring.

if they do the 20 dollar limited data plan and the cheaper phone i think it could jump to #2 but ljinsane would say big deal they are only #2 and then shit on the thread with his special brand of sadness

The iphone still lacks certain features that most "smartphones" have, and, to put insult into it all, the new version they will release, according to them, will make the current iphone user base goofy with envy, so basically, save up for the next version of the phone so you can continue to be "cool" and in the know.... I was always talking about the plans restrictions and contracts This might come as a shock to you but some people feel a 3 year contract is alot to PAY to get the phone when 1 year from now there will be a better model like their always is. And some people feel that its talk/data plan is too much to pay to get a iphone.

Good point, but CDMA is going the way of the DoDo Bird. Exticnt. LTE is when we'll see the iPhone on Multiple carriers. Say late 2010 or 2011. Verizon already admitted CDMA is DEAD.

Verizon boss Ivan Seidenberg talks up the iPhone, saying that Apple had never seriously considered a CDMA version, but that he thinks the company will be much more receptive to talks once Big Red moves to LTE and everyone gets on the same page technologically.

So Apple chose a world standard first. Ninjas forget that Apple went to Verizon first. So it would have been both CDMA and GSM by now. But Verizon turned Apple down. Thats what haters get. Now Verizon wished they didn't turn it down. Now they gotta wait till they get on the same page with the world. The World is going LTE for the 4G.

The chart above shows that Apple has made steady gains since 2003 in the percentage of incoming UVA freshman who own a Mac. The latest year (2008) shows that 37% of incoming students owned a Mac while the percentage owning a Windows computer had shrunk to 62% from a peak of 96% in 2001. The growth tracks closely with the trend towards laptop ownership amongst the Virginia freshman. In 2008, 99% of the incoming students owned a laptop.

The data adds to a number of anecdotal reports that Apple has been making major strides in higher educational marketshare. Last year, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple had become the #1 laptop supplier in higher education for 2007.
