iPhone 4s: Over One Million Pre-Orders in 24 hours

Those numbers are impressive

Though I would note my gs11 epic, does far better than those posted marks, within a few points of the 4s

So I'm not sure how they arrived at those marks, or which device they used, maybe it's the original international one

Wish it didn't have that little as screen though, and the no wimax sucks especially since sprint is still adding on the premium data fee

He's been bugging the shit out of me.. keeps asking me if I got the iPhone 4s yet because he know's he's going to inherit my iPhone 4. :D My youngest is cool with the iPod Touch though.

You the lyingest mothafucka of all the lying mothafuckas I have ever seen in my natural life.

You lost your mod job because you were a lowdown conniving mothafucka. Now you gonna lie on your kid? Nigga do you know NO bounds of fuckery? :smh:

You stay in here trolling that Apple bullshit, then you reel in poor Jagu who
thinks you are serious and wants to rally by your side.

Jagu...don't let that nigga get you on the wrong side of some bullshit man...this is that nigga's act...the whole Apple vs Android shit came from David Martin being a cockmeat sandwich when he was a mod. He isn't being attacked for liking Apple...nobody gives a fuck...he wanted to act like a bitch so we are gonna treat him like a bitch.

 Why you so mad man? if you don't like my threads, put me on ignore... its a better alternative to acting like a sissy

No comments eh? I guess this shut down all nonsense....

iPhone 4s (and iPad 2) smokes Android phone competition

As the iPhone 4S begins trickling out to customers, benchmarks have surfaced on the device that proves it is a seriously powerful smartphone.

According to AnandTech's findings, the A5 chipset on the iPhone 4S has been underclocked to 800MHz with an overall score of 623. That's 25 percent less powerful than the iPad 2, but it blows away the iPhone 4 and outperforms top-of-the-line Android smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Motorola Droid Bionic.

iPhone 4S Preliminary Benchmarks:
by Anand Lal Shimpi & Brian Klug on 10/11/2011 3:22:00 AM
Posted in smartphones , Apple , iPhone 4S , SoC

Apple's ability to control the entire information chain, down to the point of limiting leaks, appears to be gradually slipping as it grows as a company. Case in point are the numerous hardware and performance leaks surrounding the newly launched iPhone 4S. Little did we know that several weeks ago we were staring at photos of the 4S' PCB, and more recently we've seen the first performance results from Apple's first A5 based smartphone thanks to a few eager users around the web. We've compiled these results here from various sources (all linked below) and compared them to our existing database of tests.

The results are pretty much as expected. Javascript performance finally catches up to Tegra 2 based Honeycomb devices, while general CPU performance is significantly higher than the iPhone 4. I suspect Ice Cream Sandwich will bridge the Android smartphone gap (the Honeycomb equipped Gtab 8.9 is here to give you an idea of where a more modern Android browser ends up).

Keep in mind that all of these tests measure performance of the software stack in addition to the hardware. In particular the web browser tests depend largely on browser optimizations, which is why we see differences between similar hardware running different browser versions. Also note that all results were run at stock, with the stock browser. Finally, although these browser tests were captured on video we'll still be running our official tests once our 4Ses arrive and will update accordingly.

Early benchmarks declare iPhone 4S the fastest smartphone on the market

Think that dual-core 4G Android powerhouse of yours easily kicks iPhone ass? Think again, because AnandTech performed numerous benchmark tests on the iPhone 4S running iOS 5 GM. The combination of hardware and software made this device faster than any other in every single test.

The Apple iPhone 4S scored a 2222 on the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark 0.9. Right behind that is actually the 15-month old iPhone 4 running iOS 5 with a score of 3921 — not even close. In this category, iPhone 4S is second in line only to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, which is a tablet, not a smartphone. For some reason, that’s the only tablet thrown in the mix. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 received a score of 2220.

Next is the Rightware BrowserMark test. iPhone 4S wins again, even triumphing the Galaxy Tab 8.9 this time. The 4S has a score of 89567. The second place smartphone — Samsung Galaxy S II — is over one-third slower in this test at 55144.

Finally, we move on to GLBenchmark 2.1 for the graphics statistics. In two different 720p offscreen tests, iPhone 4S achieves 73.1 frames per second and 122.7 frames per second, respectively. Samsung Galaxy S II is again right behind for both tests, and I give credit to Samsung where credit is due. It smokes the iPhone 4, but it now has some serious trouble facing the 4S. It’s a good thing it has that heaven-sent Galaxy S III on the way, right?

One last thing to note is the difference in processors between the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S as shown by these benchmarks. Apple is always quick to announce the clock speed of the iPad, and this year the company proclaimed the dual-core A5 was clocked at 1 GHz. The iPhone specifications have always been more vague. AnandTech found that the iPhone 4S is slightly under-clocked, and therefore slightly slower overall. They peg it at around 800 MHz.

It just goes to show that software can really make the difference. Manufacturers can load up devices with dual-core 1.5 GHz processors, but if Android is hogging up resources, the powerful hardware won’t mean much to the end user.

galaxy nexus with ics will smoke the i4s and what galaxy s 2 did they test if its the at&t version it would lose since it uses a different processor than the other carriers.

i'm shocked they underclocked the i4s to 800mhz i mean i said that but i said it was 900mhz they clocked it slower... explains the battery life...

I'm not shocked... Apple always tries to improve battery life... looks like they found a good balance between speed and battery... and its still the fastest out (according to benchmarks).

according to early benchmarks...it hasn't been tested after normal day of use, lab tests really mean nothing since they r always put in the most ideal conditions...

I wouldn't say the benchmarks mean nothing... it's a good indicator that the Phone 4s is no slouch, and lays to rest the claim some are making that its only a minor upgrade to the 4.

Crazy how much hate the iphone gets :smh: if u dont like the phone u dont have to get it, i dont understand why people always comment if someone wants the newest iphone or not. Maybe Android isnt for everyone my girl has a EVO and nevers uses her phone she's always using my iphone if her upgrade was available she would get the iphone on sprint but she has to wait

AppleCare+ to End Informal Free Replacement Policy for Damaged iPhones

Last week, we noted that Apple had introduced a new "AppleCare+" offering for iPhone, replacing the previous $69 AppleCare with the new $99 warranty extending coverage to two years from the date of device purchase and including new coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage. Incidents of accidental damage covered under the new AppleCare+ program will also incur $49 service fees.

One Apple retail store source has contacted us to explain in more detail how the new AppleCare+ program will also change the way the Genius Bar handles damaged devices. Previously, Genius Bar staff had some flexibility in waiving the $199 out-of-warranty replacement fee as a "one-time exception", giving customers a free replacement for a damaged phone. With the shift to AppleCare+, Genius Bar staff will no longer have the option of offering free replacements, so customers who have been aware of Apple's informal replacement policy should be mindful of the change.

Apple is also now requiring that AppleCare+ be purchased at the same time as the device, a change from other AppleCare offerings that have allowed customers to purchase AppleCare anytime before the standard warranty expires. That requirement has been causing some confusion with iPhone 4S pre-orders through carriers and other outlets, as many of them have not been offering AppleCare+ as an option.

Customers seem to be hearing different stories from Apple sales representatives regarding adding AppleCare+ to iPhone 4S purchases made elsewhere, adding to the confusion. Some representatives have suggested that a simple phone call to Apple can resolve the situation, while others have suggested that users should bring their unopened iPhone 4S boxes to Apple retail stores and have staff members set up the devices and add AppleCare+.

But while Apple's official policy requires AppleCare+ to be purchased at same time as the device, the source who reached out to us notes that Apple will allow users who did not purchase AppleCare+ to add it to a replacement phone if they damage their device and need to have it replaced. Under the program, customers needing to replace a damaged iPhone would be given a $50 discount on Apple's standard $199 replacement fee if they also purchase AppleCare+ for the replacement device, for a total cost of $249. That program would then cover the consumer for additional accidental damage incidents in the future.

Update: We're hearing that even Apple isn't clear on whether AppleCare+ needs to be purchased at the same time as the device. While Apple's iPhone and AppleCare pages are clear that AppleCare+ "must be purchased together with your new iPhone", the legal text of the AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions (PDF) indicates otherwise:
You must purchase the Plan while your original iPhone is within Apple’s One Year Limited warranty.
We've been told that Apple may be offering some clarification on the AppleCare+ situation by the time the iPhone 4S launches on Friday.

its not that much different than the i4... no one said the i4 wasn't a beast its just not a huge gigantic evolutionary step behind the i4s... i dont trust benchmarks bgr said my phone had horrble battery life and benchmarks shitted on it then the phone got released retested and its a beast and bgr's review and tests were proven totally wrong. benchmarks r cool if u wanna just see how ur phone reactions to things but it shouldn't be the basis of a review since it leaves out a lot of variables and real world situations.

According to benchmarks its 73% faster than the 4.

As far as it not being a "huge gigantic evolutionary step behind" the 4s, just means the 4s is that much better in terms of performance. But I agree, the iPhone was no slouch!

Benchmarks are about as accurate as you can get... its far better than a youtube video of someone trying to press a button at the same time on 3 phones.

no one hates the iphone, its some of the users who catch the dislike... i was in the apple store today checking something with my ipad and had a snooty apple store worker talking to chick who was checking out a macbook pro, this person pulled out an android to check something and the apple store worker got an attitude and tried to convince the person to buy an iphone and BLATANTLY lied about things android supposedly didn't have. she was like, my phone does have that and i just came in to get a macbook pro and the apple worker was insisting she get an iphone saying it makes no sense to own a macbook pro and a lower class device like android... she said he was crazy and asked for another floor person to help her...

a lot of iphone users have this attitude and arrogance and will lie about things to make the iphone look better than it is... i dont hate the iphone i dont think anyone hates the iphone its a piece of tech... its the users who get the dislike...a lot of iphoners a cult-ish...they're like white people with dogs... shit is disturbing as fuck

i agree it should be better. i dont mean utube videos from techno buffalo either... i mean end users... like devilstrider has both so his reviews are fair... but bgr and engadget and gizmodo will always slant towards the iphone b/c they r ifans 1st which is up to them... but on bgr besides shitting on blackberry he rarely gives good reviews of the android phones i was shocked he gave a good review of galaxy s 2 today... i prefer to read reviews from ppl on sites like best buy or something they generally have no horses in the race since the fanboys on both sides stick to the blogs.

In the case of benchmarks, the numbers speak for themselves (so you aren't getting biased commentary), and right now, the 4s is a killer upgrade and the fastest thing out right now.

Yeah the AT&T version has that old ass snapdragon processor. I wonder why they gave it that old joint and not the new one that the sprint version has.

I see what you are trying to do.

Dude...I am not falling for it.

Im not going to just start putting his face on shit just to be doing it....

There is a fine art to this shit that I take GREAT pride in...
