How Hard is it to Find a Job In your City?

I don't know. I am not looking for one.

However, judging from job fairs and grand opening of businesses in the Atlanta metro area, the jobs available vs. the amount of people there to apply for them is EXTREMELY skewed.:dunno:

In the D/M/V, there's tons of jobs if you have the right skillset. Java, Oracle, SQL Server, C#, PHP, MySQL, Flex, Sharepoint, CRM, and ERP. Unfortunately, I'm not fully qualified in any of them. So, I was unemployed for the last 6mos. Now, I have 2 jobs: Developer at an investment firm and a Systems Engineer at a web hosting company. Working 2 fulltime jobs SUCK but, it's helluva lot better than being unemployed and eating ketchup soap and saltines every meal.

Yup! Get qualified or stay unemployed.

How is he gonna get capital if he doesn't have a job? :smh:

I swear brothers and this work for myself bullshit. Its an instant fail if you don't have a marketable product and aren't willing to work all the damn time to get it off the ground.

The SBA shows you how to get government grants, loans and funding programs, all you need is a good business plan and to fill out all the paperwork. There's also franchising, too.

I just need to figure out what kind of business I could start, what sells in my city, where I can get it, I need a good place to sell it, and take care of all the legal paperwork. And that's just getting the business started. Then you got day-to-day stuff, marketing and accounting, so yeah, it ain't no cake walk. Me personally, I've been going to college learning all of this stuff majoring in business and accounting so I'm preparing myself for all of it.

actually, jobs here are in abundance. if a nigga can't find a job here....he aint looking hard enuff or just doesn't want one. there's businesses poppin up all over the gotdamn place here. i actually turned down 4 jobs before deciding stay with the one im at.

sigh

you are missing the point

felons with no income and need a job = get in that got damn warehouse and stop po' hustlin

educated with no experience = consider an internship if jobs arent knocking down your door and you didnt think to intern while you were receiving your education

Why are we talkin bout felons all of a sudden anyway? Maybe that's why I missed the point. I got a job, but the whole convo was about how hard it is to find a job. I also just assumed that folks are lookin for halfway decent jobs, not warehouse gigs or fast food.

Naw I am actually good, I make a decent living online Im speaking for the folks who are desperately trying to find a gig and cant even though they are highly qualified for them.

I hear ya Bruh... I'm in L.A. and we need to speak spanish to order Chinese cause they hire them before any of us. Now some of us did not help by being a sorry ass worker.

you basically focused on the 2nd part of the first post you quoted me on in this thread and thats how it got started

my first post in this thread and the first part of the post you quoted was geared towards dudes with education and/or dudes with a clear/semi clear record

Did you teach yourself or did you go to school to learn those skills?

Self-taught.

These summamabitches told me today my contract's up at the end of the month after I was told a few weeks ago my contract would be extended to work on another project.

Good thing I got my backup job.

first problem..bruthas is thinkin city...try the world....move if you have too

This right here. I don't think he meant getting up and moving everything to another country. I think he might have been referring to overseas jobs. I'm doing a contracting job overseas right now and this shit for the most part is gravy. Its mostly former military cats that jump on these jobs but on some real shit its alot of regular civilians as well and you have alot of companies that are represented.

Depends. In NYC there are plenty of jobs, problem is they are skilled positions the average man doesn't qualify for. In Rochester jobs are booming if you are in medical/human services fields, literally jobs on top of jobs.

I think thats the problem is most areas around the country. You have an abundance of highly skilled positions (ie computer programming, IT, engineering, RN, etc) left unfilled and you have a majority low to average skilled labor force/pool to draw from. Most folks aint gonna take the time to learn SQL or linux when they have been geared towards manufacturing/labor/construction jobs all their life.

Unpaid internships are good, but in my area most companies arent dishing them out like that, and when they are, the only people to get them are those with the in-house connections....

You have to start small, with the intentions to finish big. The problem is nobody wants to put in the groundwork to start small, everyone wants instant gratification. Thats a very big problem with people today...:smh:

I'm in Miami looking since February and it is hard. But I think it is harder down here than most places. I finally got an offer and I may get another one within the next few days. Here you need to be able to speak another language (Creole or Spanish)to get work a lot of places and I only know a little bit of Spanish and hardly any Creole.

yep.....niggaz tryin to walk right in and be the ceo.....it dont work like that. you gotta climb the ladder of advancement.....not the other way around.

For people in the Chi, i always get emails from this cat everyday and have tons of jobs on them. If you qualify is a different story. Also go to companies websites and post your resume on their. Honestly Temp services are the way to go. They get your foot in the door, you prove you work hard/smart and prove your self. They will see you on your shit and hire you. (sometimes) so start signing up at temp services and you never know.

:dunno:, Look on CL "Assembly, Data transfer"... When I applied the company name wasn't listed or anything just "data transfer/A+, associate prefered for xxxxxx position", along those lines. I have experience doing similar duty at NCR 3 years. No degree or certification. Talked A-1 game at the interview however...

I did the same thing A-1 game at the interview and have years of experience but.... imma get my certs to try to kick the doors off the damn hinges!

Damn!!! It's that bad ya gotta speak spanish to order chinese?? Wtf smh that's hard right there

Honestly? I'm in Central Jersey and finding a job is NOT the problem. Finding one that pays enough to pay even the most basic of necessities, IS. I'm Project Managing and they didn't give pay increases for two years and then said they would only give 2-1/2 %raises from here on. I have to get a side hustle now.

The part-time job that motherfuckers would kill for arfound here is paperboy. (seriously) My BOSS did that over the summer and he said the waiting list for that shit is crazy, but the money you get for few hours of work was too good to pass on.

Im in Chicago and man a nigga cant get anything out here. I know folks with 4 year degrees and cant get a gig at Burger King. Anybody else's city feeling that sting too?:smh:

u fkn bum,go to a temp agency. get off bgol for an hour, stop all your craigslist and blog scams, there's money out here!

i actually got no problem w/folks but this thread is ironic as hell considering holmes was tryin to shit on me a lil while back for having a desk job.

I would love to have a desk job. This retail shit is not for me. Shit matter fact I got a friend I grew up with that has a "desk job" and he told me the hardest part about his job is figuring out what type of workout he going to do for his lunch break. Oh when he does get a lot of work, half of it goes to his secretary. This some bullshit.
