I don't think Nas and Jay-z are a representation of "grown man rap" either because they still participate in frivalous beefs. Can't someone rap about something funny going on at WORK or happenings on a college campus? Or something that relates to real life besides sellin drugs to eat. Last album I actually bought was MF Doom's box set and that was last year sometime. Sad really because I used to be in the record store every other week getting something.
freaky_1 said:Well, there goes the south's argument that they are selling.
Hip Hop was better when it was broke. This article was on point.
Bottom line, people are getting tired of the bullshit.
Upgrade Dave said:We know, we know, freaky, you hate the South. We get it. The South's argument isn't that they are selling but that they are OUTselling every other region with the possible exception of the Midwest.
I don't know if hip-hop was better broke but rappers usually are: see BIG and 50.

DjMorpheus said:Live music could save HipHop if the shows weren't so shitty and mufuckas fightin, killin, beefin, etc. Sales need to drop about 70%. Record labels are like dinosaurs lookin up at the sky at falling meteorites sayin "Look at those fireballs coming." They gonna be slow to move until it's too late. Their whole system is based on exploiting the artist. Once more artists get a clue and go the independent route similar to what Prince has done, and a lot of these southern, so called "coon" rappers that everybody hatin on, then you'll see a change. The current system can't change it's modus operandi to exploit the artists, but once artists begin to exploit themselves...
donwuan said:the whites are leaving hip hop because they are the most unloyal fan base you can have. white teenage girls buy more albums than any other group. that's why 50 sellin out and making songs with robin and justin. it will come back but never like it was, which is fine with me.
Dirty Hubcaps said:nah man, competition has been here since day one. people who dont like 50 always say he starts imaginary beefs to drum up interest in his latest record coming out. thats not a blueprint he came up with. first big record krs-one came out with was dissing marley marl & the juice crew. first record salt & pepa came out with was dissing doug e fresh & slick rick so the back and forth aint nothing new. of course you need talent to keep people interested after the battle's over (which is why we havent heard any tim dog records lately)
MrMotivator said:How bout sales are fucked because music is absolute shit right now????
What the fuck i hate that dumb ass downloading argument itunes sold 3 billion songs in 4 years almost all singles why?? Because consumers are fucking tired of a bullshit album with one good song, who is to blame downloaders? consumers? No bullshit Record labels and bullshit artists!!! What the fuck... then they blame us what kinda shit is that. This is the reason music sucks people don't look in the mirror.
Second DOWNLOADING was at its peak during the naptster days of 1999-2001 shit people keep skipping over that fact all these p2p programs combined can't hold a candle to naspter in its prime, And truth be told most people don't have a fucking clue where to get music from we (BGOL etc) are a horrible example most people are tech savy here, the rest of the country thinks the ipod doesn't play mp3s and has trouble putting songs on their ipod for christ sake.
Third WAKE THE FUCK UP MUSIC INDUSTRY for the last 60 odd years you were the only kid on the block today you have to compete your dumbass bullshit corny music against XBOX PS3, DVD, ring tones, ipods, Sneakers, Cellphones, you have to be retarded if you don't realize that disposable income has at least 10 more options to choose from instead of just a cd for legal entertainment.
and finally Bootlegging has been going on for years before all this shit and it will be going on for years after this shit, computers just made it easier for me to not have to leave my house but trust me the cats bootlegging had no intention of ever purchasing music and cannot be counted against the final sales numbers.
Hey you got me wrong. I don't co-sign any of thethings you described, real talk. You have never seen me go apeshit over the latest wack rapper's mixtape no matter where it came from.DaleMabry said:![]()
What, bullshit like all that gun-clapping, I got weight, One Ya'self bullshit every underground East Coast mixtape has niggas bumping for 30 tracks?
Oh no, you mean all that Cripping, Red Ragging and gangbanging from the West Coast right?
Oh, its ok to talk about genocide so long as it ain't in a Southern accent right? Partying and wearing jewels and fuckin hoes is ass-backwards when it's country niggas spittin it but it was fine for the first 30 years of hip-hop right?
Nigga WHAT

I'm not defending it but if it's wrong, it's wrong period, not just cause its in a style and presentation that isn't familiar to you mufuckas.

I just said that to say that when you criticize southern artists, their "fans" say 'they sellin records and getting money', this article disproves that and you can look at soundscan number and they totally don't justify the BDS numbers these artists are getting.
Just because something bangs in the club doesn't always translate to moving out the store. Like I said people are getting tired of the bullshit, no matter where it's from. That's why Common got his 1st number one album this year, because people want to hear something different. Not all the same shit you described.
It's not just a southern thing man, i am a big fan of Outkast (since 94) and Cee-lo Green, Goodie Mob, Little Brother, Dead Prez, Devin The Dude, 8 Ball & MJG, Scarface, Luke, Ludacris, The D.O.C. (Texas), Geto Boyz and a host of others from the south. I listen to everything from all over. I just don't Co-Sign the bullshit.
Even from Chicago, I wasn't on the Crucial Conflict bandwagon, I thought they sucked. I liked Do or Die, Psycodrama, Infamous Syndicate (Shawnna old group) Twista, Jah Rista, Kanye West, Common, and Lupe Fiaco and SB. I can't co-sign Bump J for the reason you stated above. His music is bullshit to me. He's the 3rd guy on Kaye's song Touch The Sky.
Since you mentioned East Coast like I just blindly ride for NY, let me tell you flat. I don't fuck with NY outside of Jay-Z, Nas, NY OIL and the old school cats, most of the new dudes suck. Dipshit and 50 leading the way. I have no problem saying that. Wack is wack no matter where it comes from. Period!
So don't mistake me, I don't hate the south perse, I just hate wack rappers and it just so happens that mostly wack rappers are getting shine they don't deserve over artists that do deserve it. And it also happens to be that the most people getting the spotlight are from the south so yeah I direct most of what I say to that.
Don't like it? So be it, but it won't change.
Peace.DaleMabry said:OK my bad. Fuckin JD Walker got me tight right now with this Hate on the South parade.

Period, point-blank.The Amerikkkan Idol said:Hip-Hop's not selling because it sucks. It has nothing to do with being too "thugged out". You think if NWA's "Straight Outta Compton" or Snoop's "Doggystyle", or Biggies "Life After Death" came out, it wouldn't sell? It would be the biggest record of this year. Hip-Hop is less thuggish than it used to be. NWA puts 50 to shame in terms of violent content. So does the Geto Boys, Gangksta Nip, Boss, Breed, Cube, and a bunch of other MC's. 50 spends most of his time making gimmicky white teenage girl music.
The guys out just have no talent, and the ones that do are purposely dumbing themselves down to fit in with the TRL audience, because they have the most disposable income. The south just did what the east coast started with Puff, Jay, and 50, dumbing down the music to sell more records to white teenagers.
lol that comrcial was the reason I started rapping...themainman said:I was just a yungsta but I swear I had a ominous feeling when Nas and AZ did that Obey Your Thirst commercial.
